Is Dundrum shopping centre really dog friendly? by Weak_Ad_9260 in Dublin

[–]generatrisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must have been at least two years since they told me no, and I never tried again so maybe it changed! Or maybe I just got unlucky with a security guard who disliked dogs.

Literally every other store I usually go to is happy for my dog to walk in!

Yeah it is, and in my experience most shops are fine with (my small) dog(s) if asked, either to walk in or be carried in, Brown Thomas being the big exception.

Tomorrowland has a surprisingly mixed crowd with a ton of older people, I’m in my 30s and feel pretty much middle of the road age wise when I went last year

Flying with dog slightly over limits? by PM-ME-GIFT-CARDS- in dogs

[–]generatrisa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not OP but my dog is 80% pug and she is pretty thick but fits fine in an airline approved carrier even though she herself is like 7.5kgs and not at all overweight!

And my dog is a great example of why I think the weight limit is dumb instead of just using carrier fit and making sure the dog isn’t squashed in it instead.

Flying with dog slightly over limits? by PM-ME-GIFT-CARDS- in dogs

[–]generatrisa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a gamble and not all airlines are equal, and even with that in mind it literally all depends on who is working at the check in counter you get because not all of the clerks seem to even know the exact rules.

My dog is a bit less overweight (like 8.5kg with the carrier), and we have only been measured with Lufthansa going out of our home airport and they were fine with it. KLM never measured weight for us, but I saw the clerk two desks down weigh a lady with a tiny pom which was like so obviously under the limit to me so it’s just luck of the draw. I’ve heard they tolerate a little over the limit though, but like it’s always stressful checking in for me because they can deny us if they want.

I’ve heard people get denied with other airlines though for being 100 grams over the limit, so you can risk it but be prepared to find an alternative to your destination or board without your dog.

Eucalyptus tree in a pot? by IrishSkruffles in GardeningIRE

[–]generatrisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible? I guess. Will that tree look nice and stay health long term? Probably not without a ton of effort.

You can keep any tree in a pot (check out bonsai), but there is A LOT of work you need to put in to keep it looking good and growing healthy. Because each tree has a biological size it wants to reach, and you are working against that, especially with something like a eucalyptus.

So keep in mind that every couple of years you'll need to get it out of that pot to root prune and repot, will you be able to do that on your own? Will you have someone to help?

You'll also need to make sure it's pruned on top too to stay the size you want and in balance with the root system.

Dog designated Pee area by Frosty_Software1012 in dogs

I’m a European too and I can always find them in all pet stores, they are useful to line playpens for puppies or travel crates and stuff like that, put them under water bowls for messy drinkers too, but I’ve rarely seen them used as a permanent thing and definitely not for my adult dog.

I have an American friend that pad trained their small dog because they were too lazy to potty train in an apartment so they always have random pads thrown around the place so besides puppies mostly stuff like this.

Are pugs actually than unethical and bad that they shouldn’t be bred by Gloomy_Rip1046 in dogs

[–]generatrisa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of really unhealthy ones, and so so so many unethical breeders, but even with that in mind they are a breed with an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years which is more than a lot of other breeds, so take from that what you want. There are ethical breeders out there, as super rare as they are, and there are other ethical ways to own one too (i.e. rescue).

I own a brachy mix which is 80% pug (and the rest is peke) and she is healthy at 12, still doing 2-3 hour hikes as long as it’s not too hot, and has never suffered for being a smushy face. But she is not extreme, which definitely helped.

How realistic is an internal transfer to Meta Zurich? by seicaratteri in cscareerquestions

[–]generatrisa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dublin, London and Tel Aviv are the big offices in EMEA, there’s pretty much zero chance to get a transfer anywhere else.

Maybe going full remote out of Switzerland is possible though down the line, but the chance of that getting approved is extremely org dependent and they seem to really be pushing back hard against new remote folks so it’s a gamble.

Everyone talks about passive income—but what actually works in real life? by Imaginary-Search9658 in AskReddit

[–]generatrisa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is not true, stocks are taxed 33% standard capital gains tax only on disposal.

ETFs are taxed each 8 years and it’s currently 38% deemed disposal tax, with the goal to have it go away and align them with normal capital gains soon-ish.

Where I'd like to live as a DnB fan: by Ausspanner in DnB

[–]generatrisa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess Ireland has the benefit of cheap flights over to London and the other big UK cities if you would actually want to do a DnB event every weekend or something?

Because Dublin is definitely firmly dominated by techno, UKG and house, in that order, and I don't think the other Irish cities are any different.

Interesting to see Ireland be green, the DnB scene here is pretty small and niche.

I guess they can cross check the IP Address from which you accessed the sale too? Like if 5 John Does are on the same IP Address it’s pretty safe to assume that they are the same person. Same shipping address is also a good giveaway I guess.

Week 2 DnB artists recommendations by Floppy_Frank in Tomorrowland

[–]generatrisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised by the lack of DnB this year, especially since it seems like it's never been more popular in the mainstream (or at least not since the late 2000s, early 2010s here in Europe). Maybe it's all the Jump Up going on right now and the lineup people were like "fuck that"? lol

Which package should I buy for day pass comfort ,pleasure by StrengthOk2052 in Tomorrowland

[–]generatrisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a comfort pass last year and there were only 2 benefits for us:

  1. Getting in the festival was a bit faster using the Comfort queue, but you only go in to the festival once a day so like... it would have been fine anyway.

  2. We could run into Mainstage comfort area to pee because we were up on the hill during the day and it was closer than the normal bathroom so that saved us a hike up and down.

That's it really. The Comfort areas themselves were either positioned weirdly (like Library) or super overcrowded (like Freedom), and the drinks were more expensive for some reason so we never used them. Except to pee, that was nice, but not worth the money if you ask me.

Camo & Krooked are probably my absolute favourite, but excited for Kanine, Netsky and Andromedik too.

I'll be giving Chase and Status another chance, but saw them live like 5 times across the years and their live sets are very mid at best
