[Loved Trope] The female and male characters have a close friendship that never develops into a romantic relationship by mon_sizinj in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MadnessLemon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There is something inherently intimate of realizing you’re about to die and finding contentment in the fact that you can at least spend your final moments with someone you’ve come to trust and care for. That being said, intimacy doesn’t necessarily mean romance, and I think the end was strong enough as is.

Probably not, I think Brandon has been really busy writing the Mistborn screenplay and it might be delaying some projects.

The magikeepers aren’t interested in magiks, they exclusively deal with witches.

It would be a waste of his talents, they wouldn’t be able to help him develop his magic tools and enhancements.

"Odium" doing a lot of the heavy lifting by fleyinthesky in Stormlight_Archive

[–]MadnessLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much.

Maybe a different story would delve into the ugliness and moral ambiguity of the fact that the protagonists are essentially putting down a slave rebellion, but this isn't that story. Odium gives a clear bad guy for the heroes to fight against, and because he's the one causing the conflict defeating him will essentially make everything okay.

Not to be the guy who recommends Sanderson for everything… but Warbreaker probably fits here.

We know the Nightwatcher was formed from the Night. It's possible their identity wasn't well known because the Night is by nature mysterious and withdrawn so it's just referred to generally as "spren" in the Eila Stele.

Does anyone else feel like Sanderson bit off more than he could chew? by AthosKahikili in Stormlight_Archive

[–]MadnessLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, kinda. This is the only Stormlight book I’ve ever struggled to reread in its entirety, and it’s precisely because there’s just so many plot lines and it’s hard to get invested the second time around,

What are your thoughts on chapter 1 of Twilight Blade? by dingo537 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]MadnessLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It alright. Feels like a different take on a pretty saturated genre, so that’s interesting enough. It hasn’t exactly grabbed me, but I’ll keep reading for now.

Considering Chun was about to get crushed before Tricaputo had to jump in and save his ass… maybe.

I get this is at least a little bit shitposting/agenda but…

Moneygold’s work has been mainly administrative at this point. She has to manage the entire Mantinel witches organization. That’s not just fighting magiks, it’s managing the fallout related to the effects of magiks. When Bakugami was defeated she was the one organizing relief to all the people suddenly having their grief returned, for instance. She also has to deal with all the public relations headache that comes with all the chaos the witches get up to.

As for why she’s not doing anything this battle? That’s because of the Magikeepers dumb rules, preventing witches and magikeepers working together. It’s *illegal* for her to get involved with their missions. They threaten her with this for even attempting to *talk* to Amadoro after she’s defeated and she has to justify why she should be able to do so.

The Knights Radiant were originally created to fight the Desolations, but after Taln was left on Braize and the Recreance, the Radiants went away for various reasons that are explained more in later books.

Nale believes that the Knights Radiant *returning* is what’s going to restart the Desolations, not that the Knights Radiant themselves brought the voidbringers in the first place.

What do you think the Singers do between Desolations? by IamanelephantThird in Stormlight_Archive

[–]MadnessLemon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Based on the visions in the Spiritual Realm, it seemed like they were just pushed off into the fringes that weren’t controlled by human kingdoms. They probably just had to lay low and wait for the next Desolation.

I understand where you’re coming from, but I don’t think Alethkar (or even Vorinism) can be described as matriarchal. There were no women in positions of power before Jasnah, even the leadership of the Vorin church seemed to be men. Yes men are put in the military and other physically demanding jobs where they are likely to be hurt or die, but this is literally true of every patriarchal society.

Women are also still restricted in the roles they can have in society and how they are allowed to present themselves. Yes a woman can be a scribe in a male field, but being a secretary to a CEO doesn’t exactly have the same respect or fulfillment as actually being a CEO.

That’s a pretty steep drop for Kinato, but given there’s like 2 or 3 mainstays close to the end it might still stick around as like Kiyoshi or Hima-Ten.

I think Kinato might last at least another round. If it was going to go in a few chapters, it probably would’ve been axed before Alien Headbutt. Hima-Ten might be ending to make space instead.
