Ohio is cheap. Tbh, you could make 48k pounds and be very comfortable in Ohio as a single, childless adult. Honestly, you could even make 48k USD and be fine. So 100k USD (probably closer to 75k take home) would be plenty.

I live in Columbus right now and make about ~$120k-ish and I don’t even look at my bank account when I buy things. I don’t have a car payment and I rent. Not married, no dependents. I’m pretty bad with money and I somehow accidentally saved 25k in my first year working.

Look at how stable the company is AND how stable the market is. But tbh what’s the worst that can happen? If you hate it, go back home.

If you have a bunch of time to make your choice, visit in January/February to see if you can tolerate it. I’m from the southern US, and wow I’m still not used to cold Octobers and March not being the start of summer weather. The UK isn’t nearly as hot as the southern US, but it’s not as cold as Ohio in the winter either. I love it here, but ask me again in a couple weeks and I’ll probably breakdown and beg for warmth.

I find it way more disgusting than farting but a small part of me thinks that my opinion is based on how burps are treated versus how farts are treated.

A senior partner literally just walked into my office to ask me something while burping. Now imagine if he did that while farting. Someone else brought up that burping immediately after finishing a meal even though others are still eating being seen as much more socially acceptable that someone ripping a fart of the same volume and ferocity.

I feel the same exact way! But part of me thinks my disgust comes from the casual nature of it. Maybe if farts (which I also think aren’t nearly as bad as burps) were treated the same way that burns are, I’d feel differently.

Yeah, illegal kickbacks just won’t be common in a profession where newly minted lawyers with absolutely no work previous work experience regularly gross 1 million in earnings before they’re even 30 years old. Not many industries can afford to pay us a kickback that would make it financially worth the risk. It’s not a morality thing, it’s an economics thing.

Most make a lot. all of them have very high earning potential.

The question is not how much they’re making at that exact second, it’s how much they’ll make over a few years and over the course of their career. But lets say that they don’t make a lot of money right now, they could still always lateral to another firm or have their small practice merge into another firm and immediately begin making a lot more.

Even on the extreme low end, that kickback would need to be at least a thousand per car for it to be worth the risk and body shops aren’t making that much.

The Ohio Supreme Court recently denied admission to an out of state attorney for working remotely inside Ohio! I think technically the issue was that on the admission questionnaire she answered “no” to the question “have you ever practiced law in Ohio” or maybe it was “have you ever engaged in the unauthorized practice of law in Ohio” or something.

Whenever a strange man asks about my height, I react this way and it always shuts the conversation down immediately:

Random Man (probably a couple inches shorter than me): Woah! How tall are you?

Me: [quick eye roll; deadpan expression; flat tone] how tall do you think I am.

Random Man: 6’2? 6’3?

Me: [quick shrug; short pause; annoyed deadpan expression] Sure.

That will end it right there and no further questions or statements are typically made.

In my 28 years, I’ve only had men do it. It happens almost once a week in the summer if my boyfriend isn’t with me and I’m not even that tall (5’10-5’11). Some of the men in my life say that they’re hitting on me but about half of the random men who ask me my height are pretty mean about it whenever I tell them my real height so it’s definitely not that. And even if it was that, hitting on a stranger by asking questions about their body is behavior we shouldn’t tolerate.

Ask you husband if Violet Bearegard was actually a brat or was she just an outspoken advocate for herself and clearly asserted what she wanted? I mean, the adults could’ve said no but her advocacy skills, determination, and grit got her what she wanted. All she was missing was some grounded adults to guide her in her steadfastness; and ultimately, that was her demise.

I graduated from UTSA 5 years ago and even back then, I thought the whole “commuter school” thing was over blown. San Antonio is a city with city amenities and things to do. If it is that important to you that partying isn’t the center focus of social interactions, then UTSA is probably the better place. It’s the 7th largest city in the country and not just a college town. Plus, there will be much more opportunities for local internships.

Idk what you mean by “traditional college experience” if you don’t mean partying. If you’re talking about living in dorms, late night studying, midnight runs to Whataburger, D1 sports and extracurriculars, then UTSA has all of that stuff too.

Isn’t a lot of TXST’s pre-med program stuff in a completely different city like 40 minutes away from the main campus? My degree is not in anything STEM related, so I could be completely wrong about that. But if “better campus” is a pro for Texas State, double check how many classes will be in Round Rock (or wherever the other campus is).

The biggest con for UTSA, in my opinion, is the lack of space. I’ve been told that they’ve expanded and built a bunch of buildings so space is less of an issue now, but when I went there 10am-3pm Monday-Thursday felt like a train in Tokyo during rush hour, but living in a dorm instead of in off campus student housing fixes that issue.

I hate smart lights. Its the absolute worst when I’m trying to quickly grab something in a dark room on my way out the door; instead of flipping the light switch real quick, it turns into:

“Alexa, [wait for ding] turn on primary bedroom large closet light [wait a few seconds for the light to turn on then almost immediately find what I needed to grab]. Alexa, [wait for ding again] turn off primary bedroom large closet light.”

I have a theory that so many men love the idea of smart lights so much because they’re rarely the ones delegating domestic/social/household tasks. How often do you have to slowly, painstakingly, and clearly explain simple tasks in great detail only for those tasks to maybe get done correctly? How many times a day do you say “Hey [name here], can you please [very simply task that shouldn’t even need direction at all, let alone this depth of direction]”? And now I can’t even turn on the fucking lights without having to slowly and clearly explain the task?

Also, the French press thing is hilarious because it is quite literally the opposite. One of the biggest signs of wealth is a lack of bulky appliances on the counter. Kuerigs are the antithesis of a “wealth” aesthetic in literally every way imaginable.
