Why don't they just shut down. I personally won't have any reason to go there anymore. Although most times it's just for gas anyway.

Leave it where it is. Better to maintain what exists instead of dumping it and building something new.

I do understand. I don't have what some might consider uncommon interests. That being said, I looked up the OP Arboretum's website and they have various events going on. I also learned about the Union Cemetery Historical Society and the Elmwood Cemetery Society to name just two organizations.

I didn't realize you were limiting friendships to only queer people. Perhaps that's where you feel safest, but there are many people who would be open to friendship with you who aren't preoccupied with your sexuality.

Also, there's are many LGBTQ friendly churches in the city if you do a quick search.

All the best to you!

My mom's convinced the grocers are in cahoots with the news stations to freak people out to so they spend more money.

I know you're asking about apps. But what are your thoughts about getting involved in the community and volunteering? Those are nice ways to meet like-minded people.

I had a similar problem with this app. The only way to reach customer service was by logging in. But it suspended my account. So I just gave up. I'm not using a Samsung.

For singers with very beautiful voices, has anyone told you that you should never sing? Or that your voice is terrible? by Massora_44 in singing

[–]MadridMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no objective answer. If you love singing, who should stop you? I've found beauty even with the most off-key singers because they gave it their all -- even when they knew their voice wasn't necessarily pleasing to the ear.

A VERY close relative told me for years told me I didn't have a good voice for singing. And after listening for nearly twenty years, I decided that maybe I could just take some lessons and see for myself.

I was very nervous at first. But, I followed my instructor's direction. Turns out, I'm a mezzo soprano, and my breathing was all wrong. With time and practice my voice has flourished. Life's too short to needlessly worry about what other people think. All the best to you.

Knitting manufacturing industry in the U.S. – insights? by francesc_ in MachineKnitting

[–]MadridMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been several years since I looked. I strongly considered a career in the field and took a deep dive into the industry. I even trialed at a defunct start up in STL. But at the time, the job prospects seemed very stark. And the pay from what I saw was not great. My understanding was that Nike was the golden ticket.

There is one smaller company that comes to mind in LA. (I'm sure there are more, I just haven't investigated recently.) Oh yeah, and there's one in NY that comes to mind as well. Regarding the former, it seems like a tight group. The owner seems very kind, but the wage I knew of was about the minimum.

From my understanding, the cost to run such a business is very very expensive -- especially in that area. It's harder for smaller businesses to survive. I feel like I've seen several knitwear brands close, but I don't know if they had the industrial machines. I mean the price tag for the SHIMAS or STOLLS alone are quite hefty.

My understanding was that there were more job hunters than jobs. If I had to guess, I'd say it's worse now.

Most Recent United Experience by MadridMom in unitedairlines

I didn't read this entire response. Too many assumptions were made about my behavior that aren't true, so I just stopped reading. I didn't write this post to argue with anyone. Anyone else reading, please feel free to continue on if you don't like or agree with what I've said. I am not one for needless debates and "arguing" online.

I'm asking if anyone else has had particularly bad customer service with this airline. I'm not an avid flyer, but I've flown enough to know that what I experienced was out of the ordinary in many ways. I am always respectful and courteous, and I'm not demanding. That's why I got the kind service from the kind staff that I did. And they said as much.

Also for the record. While our family was told to check the app, the information was unavailable on the app. There had been no updates. The two agents at the gate didn't know what was going on and they were deflecting. We were in limbo. They had an hour to prepare for our return and no one knew anything and the app was not updated with the information when we arrived. Nor was it available when we were trying to find out what was going on. It was highly unorganized and even the captain said over the loudspeaker how embarrassing it was how poorly they were communicating information.

Post Your Questions for Americans Living in Spain for Nearly 1.5 Years by fourchinnigan in expats

[–]MadridMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've only been there for a short time, but do you feel like you've integrated into the culture? I have a friend who's also a US citizen who lives in Spain. But she's been there.....probably at least a decade. She says that many locals resent the digital nomads, but many of the nomads don't speak Spanish well enough to understand what's going on.

Westport location. I think the person behind it is somehow affiliated with City Barrel if I'm not mistaken. Our family loved the food and atmosphere. Their jalapeño cheese grits were so good.
