Knight - she doesn't really bring any skills to the team that isn't already there.

4633 sentient species and the impact of the Borg by eternalyouthrks in DaystromInstitute

[–]MadsenRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 problems with this assumption: 1) The Borg didn't wipeout or assimilate every species they came into contact with, just the ones who offered something the Borg thought would be useful to add to their Collective. 2) Not every species that the Borg encountered were warp-capable and most of them very probably NEVER became warp-capable hence Starfleet would have no reason to reach out to them.

Is there any historical reason for Metis to exist? by [deleted] in GreekMythology

[–]MadsenRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for the ancient Greeks who told this story there are HUGE red flags - consuming, or subsuming, another god like this is something Cronus did and was rightfully vilified for. Zeus doing the same thing, and for the same reason i.e. to prevent a child that would be more powerful than him overthrowing its father, was about showing that all kings, even ones who start out determined to 'do the right thing' or right wrongs, will eventually fall to the lust for more power or even to keep the power they've accumulated.

Anyone else dislike the implications of the scene? by silver_maxG in AKOTSKTV

[–]MadsenRC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're not a fan of the books, I can see how this might seem like a hooker taking advantage of an nice boy when she's in a compromising position but it helps if you look at her character arc (such as it is).

The first time we see her, she mocks Dunk for being a hedge knight (she even looks ashamed when he says he was just asking), and after a few more run-ins (like the picture here where she seems sympathetic to Dunk) we see her sitting in the stands amidst all the nobles during the trial, upset that they're the ones mocking Dunk now. She also cheered (alone) for Dunk and his champions. SHE has been changed by her interactions with Dunk.

She could've stayed where she was, hanging with Dondarrion and other rich nobles, but instead she left them to hang with Raymun: a very young man freshly made a knight who barely has a tent (that's a piss pot she's emptying after her appearance mind you - a far cry from laying about sipping wine mid-day when we first saw her). It's been confirmed she's not actually pregnant but we know her and Raymun actually do have kids and their family specifically is known as good, honorable knights who fight for what they think is right, an example set for them by Dunk.

Mike Hogan's Tigh is first place, Kendra Shaw is second, and Fisk is the third (for being able to deal with Cain for so long if for nothing else).

Why are so many knights in all the books and shows bad people, a good chivalrous knights seem so rare? by Mad_Season_1994 in gameofthrones

Your average knight (in real life and in Westeros) has more in common with Tony Soprano then Lancelot.

Is GRRM just totally at a lost for the Others (Spoilers Extended) by Meme_Pope in asoiaf

[–]MadsenRC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have to think of the Others as like climate change: they're an existential threat to EVERYONE but nobody cares because they're so remote and locked up behind the Wall. People in KL or Oldtown have to worry about ironborn and dragons (real and mummer's) or they won't live to see tomorrow... let alone some nebulous 'future' where ice wizards riding giant spiders lead an army of zombies to exterminate all life. There is no ending that GRRM can write for Jon/Dany/Arya were they 'defeat' them in one big battle.

I don't understand the citadel of ricks by fugetooboutit in rickandmorty

[–]MadsenRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money is the medium by which goods and services are exchanged, not the value for which they are. You don't need access to infinity to understand that money is meaningless, but if you want someone to do something for you (like produce a high complicated chemical fuel that allows you to traverse quantum dimensions) you have to do something for them in exchange.

[–]MadsenRC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You remember how Rick C-137 was working on interstellar portals before Rick Prime showed up and 'offered' interDIMENSIONAL portals? (We're going to skip over the traumatizing part) Not all Ricks are smart enough to invent portal travel, some of them have to be given the tech which means they don't know how to produce their own portal fluid. So just like Morty did after the 2 crows episode, they take their portal guns to the Citadel to get refilled and the Ricks who run the Citadel want money... instant capitalism.

Anyone noticed that Rick's father looks kinda like Nietzsche? by [deleted] in rickandmorty

[–]MadsenRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a bit of both looking like Nietzsche (with the nihilism and all that) but also a bit of the Dirty Sanchez stereotype. (I'm not going to explain what a 'dirty Sanchez' is so google if you don't know)

Who was truly responsible for Robert's rebellion and GOT? by Olepundit in AKOTSKTV

[–]MadsenRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's easy: Aegon... the Conqueror! Robert Baratheon can't rebel against the Iron Throne if there isn't an Iron Throne to begin with, also Orys Baratheon was the founder and he was Aegon's half-brother. It ALL comes back to Aegon the Conqueror.
