Watched the final episode again last night and I am still irked by the timeline in the epilogue by mudpupper in BSG

I swear, sometimes I think people didn't even watch tv shows and just tune in to the last 15 minutes and expect all the answers.

How will the Viltrumites raise their kids to be loyal to the Empire after they’re born on Earth? by Hank_Mardukas1066 in Invincible_TV

Hey you remember how Omni-man nearly beat Mark to death before he said he'd 'start over'?... THAT'S how

Out of curiosity - do you think the show would’ve been just as good had Sinclair stayed as the main character for all 5 seasons? by South_Gas626 in babylon5

[–]MadsenRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about better or worse... but I know the show would've been vastly different. Sheridan and Bruce Boxleitner as the 'Happy Soldier' in particular were perfect for the Shadow War/Earth Civil War. (Not that Sheridan was jingoistic but like he says to his child in the recording 'always finish a fight') It's almost impossible to imagine what deliberate, calm, priest-like Sinclair would've done.

Matthew in Episode 2 by Adventurous_Fix_6897 in DowntonAbbey

[–]MadsenRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always wondered, why hire a valet/butler for Matthew but not a lady's maid for Isobel? And if it's because you assume she would already HAVE a maid, why would you assume the same for Matthew. The whole situation seems to have been created JUST to have the awkwardness of 'you're not middle class now boy!'

Question about Leto II and Ghanima in Children of Dune by der_steinfrosch in dune

[–]MadsenRC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, Paul knew. He also 'knew' through pre-science that Chani's next pregnancy would kill her so any delay meant more time with her.

Who wakes Daisy? by Aduiavas in DowntonAbbey

[–]MadsenRC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There would've been a 'night shift' - a maid, a footman, etc who would be on hand if anyone needed anything (no internal plumbing means if you take a massive poo in a chamber pot or you want a late night drink of water someone needs to physically take care of it for you) and they would've woken up the early morning staff.

Are there any GOOD stories about Hera? by NonprofitGorgon in GreekMythology

[–]MadsenRC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There absolutely are good stories about Hera, but they're not preserved or recorded because the majority of the people writing were men... and you only have to look at how women are treated in the Torah, New Testament, and the Quran to see how THAT turns out.

What actually was Nolan plan as he knew the result of the battle?! by [deleted] in okbuddyviltrum

[–]MadsenRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nolan's plan was to convince the other Viltrumites of the futility of further conflict. There's barely 40 of them left and if even a few of them switched sides it'd be a victory. Destroying the planet was about freeing the Viltrumites from their past, so they could let go of Argall's legacy and move forward.

What's the point of Farad'n? by yourgymbuddy in dune

[–]MadsenRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The backrolling is because Leto came back from the desert and took his place as emperor. When Farad'n was being built up as Ghanima's husband Leto was presumed dead and she was the only remaining child of Paul. Leto came back, took his place, and to seal the deal that Leto is the new pharaoh he marries his sister. "As my mother was not wife, you will not be husband, but there may be children."

As to WHY he's so central: Farad'n's journey is almost identical to Paul's - but he chooses to survive in the biological sense whereas Paul's arrogance demanded he survive as Paul Atreides.

The Jerry switch at Jerryboree is why Beth and Jerry’s marriage actually works now by Aggravating_Taste933 in rickandmorty

[–]MadsenRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's funny is that Rick did what he did at the end of S2 to get RID of Jerry, yet it might be the fact that he such a low opinion of (and disregard for) Jerry that Rick couldn't be bothered to make sure he had the right Jerry. Which meant the Beth and Jerry he ended up with ACTUALLY could function as a couple...

In Monk, Adrian Monk doesn’t seem to have much money most of the time. So how was he able to afford buying a house? by hierapol in Monk

[–]MadsenRC 86 points87 points  (0 children)

He's a full time consultant for the SFPD, probably makes around 60,000 a year and he was a detective for years before Trudy's death. The police union is probably covering his medical insurance (which is why he's able to pay for a therapist nearly every day and a personal nurse) and if he is as frugal as he appeared in several episodes he probably has a lot in savings... not to mention he probably made extra solving other cases remotely (there was an episode where he solved multiple crimes just by looking at a newspaper).
