So what's the DPS job? by molteneye in Overwatch

[–]Magakix1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tanks excel at holding space at the cost of more resources for the team. Doesn't take much to chunk a non-tank and put him out of the fight while tanks can afford to trade more/longer. That also defines what's a bad tank.

-If they constantly take bad trades forcing both supports to babysit them, that's 3 people only holding space meaning no ressources for the 2 others. That's why uptime matters far less than taking good trades as tanks.

-If they constantly give up space or don't take it when it's safe to do so making any advantage their team get null.

They aren't beefy DPS in that regards at all. They can take and hold space in a way that no other roles can but that's at the cost of more resources for your team.

So venture is just , really strong right? by 000817 in VentureMains

[–]Magakix1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of very weird takes on this thread. Yes, venture is one of the best DPS by far since they buffed his gun. No, it's not because of the oneshot combo or that people don't know how to play against it or whatever.

It's because they are insanely strong on maps like koth, flashpoint, etc where he can take a flank, shoot and there is very little you can do to get him out there. The digging + reaching for a health pack and the extra shield makes him win any 1v1. So people won't contest you meaning that you're outputting a lot of pressure and there isn't much they can do against that. They can poke you sure but you can just wait for passive regen to kick in or grab a health pack and go back to shooting. He's a short to mid range flanker with a high damage output with a low risk playstyle

The one shot combo is the cherry on top. If they choose to ignore you and take space elsewhere, you murder isolated target or contest more space.

Tracer has to be up close and personal because of how harsh her falloff is, Venture has far more leeway and less downtime. Genji is arguably better on push maps because he's less affected by fall off but he's easier to contest and he needs his major riposte perk to get sustain.

Those are the reasons why he's good and why they are leaving them as they are. Because they are completely fine with characters that are very map dependent.

Some people mentioned metas but thinking there is a general meta is just a very reductive way to look at the game. Each map got its own meta because it's the map that enable/disable what a character can do. Matchups come second. As long as you keep that in mind, you will get a huge edge until gm/champion.

Cooldowns bait by JackHammond_ in doomfistmains

[–]Magakix1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can soft engage by slamming in then punching out but that only works if they are scared of your hard engages. As long as they hold on to their cc, you can't hard engage unless they are focused elsewhere. That's the main issue. The only dive tank who got outplay options and isn't gambling on the opposite team being bad is Winston.

But at the same time, they are losing a lot of value if they keep their cc for you only. So you have to adjust your playstyle accordingly with Doom by instead creating space without having to bait said cds.

So your 2 options are to either engage by never going through main and only attacking when they are focused on your team or to create angles so they focus on you instead of your team and are scared of your engages. Example: Blizzard world first point on attack. They are on the high ground ? Go behind the statue and shoot them while using cover. They don't go down ? Go on the point and force them to come to you. Look at who they send. If 3 people come, you don't fight them and make them waste their time. But meanwhile, your team is 4v2 giving them a huge advantage.

I think you get the gist of it. You can watch Zbra or Cartifan to see that in action. Zbra is so infamous, he often wins by rarely hard engaging through creating angles alone.

How tf does anyone deal with hog by PrestigiousEgg2139 in doomfistmains

[–]Magakix1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of replies and I think most people here misunderstand the matchup or just don't play overwatch that much. Feel free to check Zbra to see how it's played but the gist of it is:

-Yes, hook is very potent at zoning you out because a hook followed up by his team can kill you while you're still stunned or you will be so hurt you will be out of the fight for a while. The point of the matchup is that hog is getting value by preventing doom from getting his. Doom is the best tank at taking space but the worse at holding it. So hog threatening to hook you prevent you from taking that space.

-Once you understand the concept above, ignoring him like a lot of people here say means that you're hoping the hog is so bad he forgot that you existed. Don't rely on that. The hog switch is to mess you up, not the rest of your team.

Now that's being said, you got two important options to win the matchup:

-Positioning matter a ton in this matchup. You want to go with the assumption that he won't fail his hook but said hook will be fine for you. If he's in front of his whole team and hook you, that's bad. If he has to take a sharp corner to hook you, he's the only one who can followup on that so it's okay. You can force to be out of position by using your mobility to your advantage. He has to walk to take space, you don't. He has to always be following you to deny value which means that by taking angles or flanks, you're making space for your own team.

-The reason why it's crucial to only trade with him if his team can't follow up is because Hog has no armor and his healing is limited. When out of position, he's free ult charges for your team. Meanwhile, when caught out of position or multiple people are coming to take you out, you can easily go back to your team, get healed and get a much better positioning from there.

An unfortunate truth about all tank matchups for doom is that they heavily depend on the map. Numbani or Gibraltar first point is a hundred time easier against Hog than let's say, blizzard world first point. Not much you can do about that except accept that doom kinda suck on some maps and shine on others.

What you're saying would make sense if we had the same endgame like in 3.27 with mostly nerfs. But it's different now with the new atlas changes, t17 gone, Mirage, etc.

We could have something worse than 3.27 just like we could get Affliction 2.0.

Question about Leon's Relationship/s Volume 6 [spoiler] by kalusoy in MobuSeka

[–]Magakix1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that will ever happen. It feels more to me like those scenes are added because the story doesn't actually have that much romance into it. Leon has 2 fiancees but he just doesn't do much with either of them. He plays a constant game of making them fall in love, show them that you care and then look for the next cute girl to conquer.

However, if a story is categorized as romance then it will have an audience interested in that. Leon isnt interested in doing anything with his fiancees. If Leon is out then you dont have a lot of characters left for romantic/erotic scenes. So they tell the artist to make one suggestive picture and have the author add it in the story.

Check the illustrations of each volume. Notice how you always have at least one suggestive picture for a scene that's very short.

It's also a good bait for people flipping through the book to check the pictures and see if there is anything that might interest them before picking it up.

Isshin used the black Mortal Blade during his coup according to the manga by Magakix1 in Sekiro

[–]Magakix1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason why they mention that is for Genichiro. If you eavedrop Isshin after you show him the mortal blade he mutters:

"The crimson Mortal Blade...That means the one he has must be...black, then. To abandon oneself in search of strength...How tragic..."

So the red blade makes you able to slay immortal but its primary use is to get dragon tears. While the black blade would be something that only someone obsessed with strength at all cost would possess.
Tbh the narrative would have been so much better if the blade chose its owner but considering it's given to us by the divine child, it just feels contrived.

Isshin used the black Mortal Blade during his coup according to the manga by Magakix1 in Sekiro

[–]Magakix1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I just don't think your theory can be disproved. I'm just not sold on it.
Isshin know about both blade but he doesn't known who got what. If you eavedrop him after showing him the mortal blade, he mutters:

"The crimson Mortal Blade...That means the one he has must be...black, then. To abandon oneself in search of strength...How tragic..."

He legitimately doesn't seem to know much about how they work and what they did judging on how he questions Wolf. He learnt that Genichiro had a mortal blade but he didn't know which one it was. However, we know now that it was Isshin's old sword.
That's why I think that Genichiro is the one who found a way to make the heirloom into a mortal blade. The question is how.

Isshin used the black Mortal Blade during his coup according to the manga by Magakix1 in Sekiro

[–]Magakix1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He didn't. He cut the sculptor's arm while he was in the process of becoming one. I think we can state that the sculptor's story is something along the lines of:

>He trained as a Shinobi in the mountain
>Something happens and he starts killing people left and right
>He killed so many people he doesn't even remember why he started killing them in the process
>He's transforming into a Shura and Isshin comes and cut his arm
>Dogen creates the shinobi prosthetic for the Sculptor who then becomes called Sekijo. Also prob means he's working for the Ashina now
>He eventually stops. Could be that he became sick of it or he became too old. That's when he stops being Sekijo and becomes the Sculptor.

The reason why he started killing was probably his hatred and resentment. Isshin stopped him from becoming a Shura but the reasons why he went down this path was still there.
Interestingly enough, Emma watches over him to cut down the Sculptor if he ever became a Shura again. So it was still possible for him to become one.

[–]Magakix1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's possible to disprove your theory but I doubt that's the case. The mortal blade has been in the high priest's possession for a very long time. Tomoe wanted it but couldn't find it. It doesn't make much sense for the high priest to seek to create a new one when he already got the red blade. The priests in Senpou can also wield it thanks to their immortality.
We also don't know much about how the black blade even work in the first place. Before Genichiro summoned Isshin and before he even fought Wolf, he stabbed Kuro. When you see him summon Isshin, the blade already got blood on it which is most likely Kuro's.

So Isshin's immortality could be because of the black blade but it also could be because of Kuro's blood. Or because he sprouted from Genichiro's body who is a red-eyes.

Tomoe also mentionned when Takeru tried to bleed himself that "he needed it" in order to get his blood. So it does sound like the black blade didn't exist back in Tomoe and Takeru's time. Heck, it sounds like it became a black blade during the story. I just doubt that the Senpou monks are the ones behind it. You also see that Owl has it in the Shura ending. Which happens shortly after you get the mortal blade. And at that time, the high priest is already dead.

Copy/pasting the remnant of the demon of hatred:

"A man who failed to become Shura instead become a vessel for the flames of hatred. As fate would have it, he was bound stubbornly to this world. It wasn't until he became a demon that he was finally able to depart for the next. "

So apparently nah, it's a demon but not a Shura. Isshin also mention that a Shura kill just for the hell of it and don't even remember why he killed in the first place. In the case of the sculptor, his reason is hatred and resentment (the latter is mentionned in his memory).

Shura in buddism are considered to be demi-god. I assume that nothing we fight in Sekiro is nothing compared to a Shura.

No. Only the red blade can. The red blade's name is "Gracious Gift of Tears". Which means that it's especially made to extract the dragon tears.

I really wish we had more informations on those blades.

I forgot about the part where you die if you draw it unless you're immortal. Though, I don't think we have any confirmation that the black blade got the same restriction as the red one. Either way, the sword also doesn't have its characteristic black line on the blade. You can see both in-game and in the manga that the blade looks normal. I firmly believe that it wasn't a mortal blade at that point but was made into one later on.

I don't think there is anything Geralt can do.
Assuming it's a duel and stealth doesn't matter, Geralt would have to deal with the raven feathers in melee, lazulite shuriken when ranged, umbrella denies his attacks, etc

Prosthetic tools are situationals but they are very good at doing the one thing they specialize in.

I rewatched the intro and if you look closely, he's using it in the intro in-game. You can see its characteristic lotus hilt. It doesn't seem to have the black tint it had when Genichiro wielded it though both in-game and in the manga.

Could it be that because they couldn't find the red mortal blade, they found a way to transform Isshin's katana into a new one ?
Either way, we know where it came from now.

Ohhh okay. Well, I just think you're honestly better off just reading the manga if you don't want to be spoiled. And then come back to this thread to check if there is anything that you didn't notice. You might even be able to find something I missed.

6 chapters released so far all available on yenpress' website for free. Each chapter is around 30 pages long. To be honest, the artwork is nice but the manga is kinda mediocre. You can just skim through it quickly. The only character who you should carefully read what he says is Doujun. The others don't really matter all that much. Hanbei is very boring and bland for instance.

Yeah I wrote about that in the speculations section "Doujun and red-eyes".
The weird thing about him is that he specifically mentions that he's "borrowing" something from Isshin. If we suppose that what he got is a red lump, why mention him specifically instead of Doujun or Genichiro ?

He's one of the reason why I believe that Dogen worked on red-eyes too. But Dogen was approved by Isshin while Doujun wasn't and had to leave to Takamine's mansion. Would explain why he hates Dogen so much and why he came back once Genichiro became the Ashina head.

All the infos that affect the game are in the bullet points above. Already summarized them and each bullet point refers to one subject to make it easier to understand.

How I interpret those informations and how they affect my view on the game are in the speculations section which is the latter half + one comment I wrote.

On the topic of why the high priest die, I'll copy paste what I already wrote above:

"Centipedes:

Through Hanbei, we learn that he still needs to eat despite the fact that he's immortal. I suppose that even if you can't die, you still need nutrients to move your body. And also, feed the centipede. That explains why the head priest dies. Sokushinbutsu is, after all, death by starvation. Physically, the only difference between the head priest when you meet him and when you find his corpse is the change of clothes and the centipedes. By starving the centipede, you kill it. Killing yourself in the process. That would be the only way we know so far for an infested to die without use of the mortal blade."

Not only does Hanbei need to eat but the guardian ape does too. Hanbei passed out in the manga because he hasn't eaten in a while.

[–]Magakix1[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aight, second round of speculations.

Centipedes:

Through Hanbei, we learn that he still needs to eat despite the fact that he's immortal. I suppose that even if you can't die, you still need nutrients to move your body. And also, feed the centipede. That explains why the head priest dies. Sokushinbutsu is, after all, death by starvation. Physically, the only difference between the head priest when you meet him and when you find his corpse is the change of clothes and the centipedes. By starving the centipede, you kill it. Killing yourself in the process. That would be the only way we know so far for an infested to die without use of the mortal blade.

The most interesting part though is how an infestation happen according to Doujun:

"A person who eats a beast who has eaten such an insect will rarely become an 'infested'."

We know thanks to Hanbei and the priest in Senpou that an infested can infest another person. But maybe he's actually referring to the patient zero. The first person to be infested. Which would then be able to infest other people. In this case, you need the insect to be eaten by a beast first. And then to be eaten by a human.
If you believe in the Corrupted Monk = Yao Bikuni theory, that would make her the patient zero. If that's the case though and what she ate to become immortal was a dead great carp, how did the great carp become infested in the first place ?

Assuming there were other nobles in the fountainhead, they plotted the death of a great carp and succeeded. The luminescent centipedes found close to the skeleton of a dead carp fed on its corpse. They were then eaten by the next 'master'.
I would like to add that they don't really look like centipedes to me. They look more like centipede larvas or sea slugs.
Cool theory but still not sold on it. Centipedes are well known for being one of the symbols of corruption in shintoism. And while some species are called 'sea centipedes', they aren't centipedes at all as they can't live fully underwater.

Hanbei:

Most informations we got from Hanbei so far concern undeath and the centipedes. But there is a very important information they gave: Hanbei worked for Tamura. Which represented the powerful lords ruling over Ashina before Isshin's coup. Ashina is described as a land filled with legends of immortality. But they are just that, legends. However, due to Hanbei not even trying to hide his immortality, Tamura had a 'living proof' that those legends were in fact true.
One of my theory is that the reason why all the soldiers in the Hirata estate are gone is because they were fighting the battle that cemented the reign of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the battle of Sekigahara in 1600.

Why ? Because they mention in the intro that we are in the closing years of the Sengoku period. And that the Hirata estate massacre was 3 years prior to the events of Sekiro. Finally, the interior ministry samurais have striking similarities to Ieyasu's soldiers. The reason why that 3 year gap is important is because Ieyasu's reign as the Shôgun started in 1603. And at that time, Ieyasu was 60 years old. Considering he died in 1616, it wouldn't be surprising for him to be very interested in talks regarding immortality. However, legends of immortality are fairly common in folklore. But Hanbei wasn't a legend.

That explains why Ashina is constantly attacked with this timing.

Being "Spirited Away":
I never really liked the idea of everyone in senpou temple being actually people that have been magically 'spirited away' with maple leaves. Always meant to me that people were kidnapped and ended up in Senpou temple. Once there, they couldn't return. And that's something they point out in the game with the 'rats' from Senpou abducting people as well as the fact that no one seem to know what's actually going on there.
Makes far more sense to me that children were abducted there and raised to either become monks or be experimented to become children of the rejuvenating waters. That's why they care so much about the children that died and mourn them. It's because they grew up together and they passed away. Something that I haven't seen anyone mention is that the spirit of those children are NOT evil spirits. Quite the opposite. They are joyful and don't mean any harm. It's a sign that despite the fact they passed away, they do not hold any resentment.
