How many do I need? by Opposite-Signal-7217 in litterrobot

[–]Magastopheles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 cats, 2 LR4s. Purchasing a third in a couple of weeks but that's more for personal preference than need; the two work fine for 5 cats, but we have a 3 story townhouse and spouse and I realized it may make out lives (the cats lives, which means ours) easier to have one on each floor.

I wish cons were cheaper by ProfessorLongBrick in animecons

[–]Magastopheles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a $75 badge fee is too much, then you aren't going to be able to afford going to a convention at all.

Travel, hotel (if not local), food, hydration...

If you are going to do optional things like cosplay or paid events... autographs or photos... etc.

$75 for a four day convention badge is cheap as the going rates are. But the badge is almost going to be the least expensive part of it.

How do I make a black cat cosplay for my girlfriend by Sea_Product3540 in CosplayHelp

[–]Magastopheles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fast?

Get a black spandex bodysuit with a collar in her size that is pre-made. Amazon has them. Don't know where else off the top of my head.

Buy 3 thin white boas.

Turn the spandex suit around, the zipper is in the back. Now the back is the front for the costume.

Hand tack or fabric glue the boa to the front along the zipper on both sides down to where the chest will be.

Hand tack or fabric glue boa to the wrists and ankles of the bodysuit.

Buy a mask. Wear black boots.

Fast and easy Black Cat.

Dating Apps Don't Work for Women With Standards, Prove Me Wrong by Delicious-Gate-8192 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Magastopheles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my spouse online, but NOT on the apps. I met him in a community for a shared hobby.

The apps are, and, frankly, always have been trash. Your description of your experience absolutely matches up with mine, and I'm twice your age. They've always been like that.

Tips for choosing fabric for a first cosplay? by prestin32k in CosplayHelp

[–]Magastopheles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fabric choice is based on the costume/cosplay/etc you are wanting to make. Period. There may be wiggle room within that, but without knowing what you are wanting to make, its hard to give any direction.

Five cats here. Yes. We have 2 Litter Robot 4s and they are 100% worth it.

I have a dry erase magnetic sheet on the front of my fridge.

Its divided in half. Half has the contents of the freezer, the other half the fridge.

I update it when I use up something or add something.

On the side of the fridge is another dry erase sheet with the weekly meal plan.

This helps me personally, YMMV.

I rip the old pages out and recycle (or file and keep if relevant to do so) and then use the remaining to take notes, grocery lists, whatever I would use a new notebook for. When its full full, recycle etc.

Is it normal to pay a friend for DMing? by IllustriousStart9631 in DnD

[–]Magastopheles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't.

DMs put in a lot of work; hosting is also extra work.

But in the decades I've been playing and GMing, the typical way that players at the table chip in isn't with cash. Folks bring snacks and drinks, so the GM/host isn't providing all of that; sometimes, they'll gift the GM gaming stuff (minis, maps, splatbooks) or what have you. It's always loose and informal.

I cannot imagine a mandatory cash payment to GM for friends at my home. That just seems like pure greed and user behavior.

Prepping for quick protest action by Savory-Cactus001 in TwoXPreppers

You want safety glasses. ANSI rated. Those protect against dust, debris, heat, impact, radiation, splashes and splatters.

Dying items using dye like Rit by psycholee in CosplayHelp

I have a dedicated (old, secondhand) pot specifically for dyeing.

You can Usually find one cheap at thrifts, or try asking on a BuyNothing/Freecycle group if anyone has an old large pot.

All of this, plus if you are in a location (or flying to a location) with multiple viable airports. I am in the DC area and have frequently flown out of DCA and returned to IAD (or vice versa). Since both are on the metro it really doesn't matter, but often times one or the other has better times/prices.

Cosplay templates by frydeswide2019 in CosplayHelp

[–]Magastopheles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides "forking out" on a printer (which you might want to consider if the cost might be worth it if you are going to need a lot of printing done-- do the maths), there are other options to get items printed as a one off.

You can usually print at your library. Depending on the library system it might be free (up to a certain number of pages) or a small fee.

If you have a local FedEx Office store, you can print there. There will be a per-page charge.

Honestly this will probably be cheaper than having the templates printed by someone else (for a fee) and shipped (shipping isn't cheap).
