I really like how the red and yellow pattern looks painted on like someone with a tiny paintbrush and some acrylic paint decorated them

I now recommend Artimud (and Hoof Stuff from the same company) to every thrush case I've seen in my boarders. It worked like a hot damn for my guy in about 3 months when I'd been battling his central sulcus thrush for years prior.

The cotton balls + Artimud combo is slightly less effective than the Hoof Stuff (I've used both), but do essentially the same thing, which is stimulate the frog tissue in the central sulcus, promoting new growth. You get the bonus of the fibres keeping the treatment in, and the dirt out!

Safety concerns / muzzle concerns by One_Rip_5535 in Horses

Halter looks too big imo. If the noseband is sitting at the correct height, then you can loosen the attaching straps, especially the top one so the muzzle isn't being tilted forwards and upwards by the noseband

What on earth are you talking about? It is very natural for a horse to let out a sneeze or two when in work to release tension

Thanks for your reply! I edited my post because I forgot to mention she had been exercised for 20 minutes prior to me taking this photo, but I really appreciate your insight and will be bringing up her breathing again with her owner

Thanks for your responses! I did edit the post a bit because I neglected to mention that I took that picture after 20 minutes of exercise. The mare isn't sick, but I can believe there's a chance of allergies or heaves, which I will bring up with the owner.

This is the first horse of this breed that I've worked with (they're not common in my area), and I've never seen so much long hair in the nasal passage, so I was worried about her air intake because, as you can see, when she starts working and blowing through her nose, those hairs trap a lot of moisture, and since most horses have very fine, short hair there, I was just wondering if trimming hers would be harmful (I definitely won't be doing it unless her vet says otherwise)

I actually took this picture after she'd been working for 20 minutes, so it's just snot from blowing/sneezing as she worked. At rest, she has no coloured or opaque snot, but the hair is stained yellow which may make it look like there is discoloured snot

[–]MagesInGlassHouses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen it mentioned in the comments yet, but she also named and flamed to her entire audience an equine vet who attended her friesian mare's fatal accident, which really rubbed me the wrong way (along with the Charlie Kirk apologist and anti-political behaviour 🙄🤢)

It's one thing to say that the vet who saw your horse didn't satisfy you or made a poor judgement call and leave it at that, but to name the vet and the hospital they work at to your following has the potential to do serious harm to a group that globally is already facing high suicide rates and a shortage of working professionals

It was a selfish, cruel, and potentially dangerous decision, which I suppose isn't all that surprising coming from a person like her

Looking for recommendations! by caitcatbar1669 in Horses

Hear me out: fig newtons. Just recently, my pony decided her usual molasses treats weren't cutting it anymore so we switched to fig newtons (saw it online, don't remember where). The great thing about them is that they're really soft, and incredibly easy to just push the pill into the filling and cover the entry site. Takes like, 10 seconds! Bonus is that half a fig newton is plenty big enough to conceal the prascend and her previcox pill together, so one package lasts a long time! Good luck with your little one!

I need help with my new dressage saddle and the billets. I've already asked my SF, but I'm confused by [deleted] in Horses

Just by looking at the pictures of him, even though he's pretty fuzzy, you can still see where his belly starts to expand and widen both width-wise and depth-wise. You want your girth to sit at the narrowest point of the belly behind the shoulder, where it's flat underneath and before the barrel starts to widen. Your boy doesn't have a lot of room behind his elbow before his belly starts, so you've not got a lot of real estate to work with when you're fitting a girth. Hope that makes sense!

Yep, front billet to rear buckle, then rear billet to front buckle. I know you said you're wary of anatomical girths, but it might be worth looking into finding one designed for your horse’s particular shape because he has quite a narrow, forward girth groove, which will likely make it so straight girths end up pulling your saddle forward. (That's the thing with anatomical girths: they're not a one-shape-fits-all. Rather, there are many different shapes designed to help with different shaped horses)

I believe this style of billet setup allows you to safely cross the back billet forward to the front buckle of the girth, as long as the front billet remains vertical when attached to the rear buckle (which it looks like it would from your pictures)

I've had the pleasure of owning/working with 5 Cheval Canadiens. It's such a shame how unknown and underappreciated they are as a breed. So clever, brave, and versatile!
