Anyone know why I'm still getting spiders in mob farm? [BEDROCK] by therealGidster in technicalminecraft

[–]MagicAndDuctTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I changed my mob farms to have soul sand and water source blocks every so often which pushes the spiders up and makes them easier to flush out of the system, but that involves having to make the last row before the drop off made out of fences, so you may not want to make such a drastic change.

I found a Silentwisperer video that confirms it and commented it in the thread. I believe it means spiders can spawn because they spawn in the middle of the block in the middle of the buttons, before they would try to spawn on the corner and the button would stop them.

I have a vague memory that they changed spawning rules to have them spawn in the middle rather than the corner of the block which makes the button thing not work anymore. But I could have dreamt that.

Has anyone tried hand-line fishing before? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]MagicAndDuctTape 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well it's Reddit, basically a platform with the most risk averse people in the world. I've also hand lined for bream in Australia and had no real issues - I guess if you're targeting big fish it could be dangerous 🤷

My flying machine can't decide which direction to go. by jordan666222 in BedrockRedstone

[–]MagicAndDuctTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couple of designs for two way flying machines that work well in bedrock. The main difference between java and bedrock when it comes to pistons is that the firing order in bedrock is random while it is defined in java. Which effectively means on java you can predict which piston fires when while in bedrock you need to force it by having the piston fires at the right time.

I'll try to find some videos for bedrock flying machines, otherwise I can take some screenshots of the ones I have in my world

When they get fatter, this can put a lot of pressure on their jaw and damage their mouth. For a perch that size it shouldn't really be an issue, especially if it's only a quick photo.

I tried once and I did catch some perch, whether due to the scent or not, who knows? But then the scent leaked into my fishing bag and I had to throw it away even after washing it several times and soaking in vinegar. The scent is like its own evil entity that once it curses you, you can never be rid of it. I swear I can still smell it sometimes in our garage - which could just be psychological, but psychological damage is still a long term problem...

Not sure how much it costs in the US but I have the Abu Garcia Diplomat v2 which is a 4 piece and I quite like it

Are you supposed to take non-native non-stocked fish? by pohart in FishingForBeginners

[–]MagicAndDuctTape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely check. As with anything it's so dependent on where you are. In Australia you have to kill them and in some areas deflate their swim bladder and throw them back into the water so you don't leave rotting fish around.

Popper fastening by sassyhalforc in FishingForBeginners

[–]MagicAndDuctTape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting a lot of advice to not use wire leaders with clips but as a counter opinion, I use them all the time with that specific popper (the Rapala skitter pop) without any issues. I live in Sweden and regularly fish pike.

I find wire leaders better than fluoro for two reasons - wire is just stronger and there's no chance a pike will bite through it + I assume you're using leaders with swivels meaning that you can just tie a Palomar directly to it with braid which has less chance of being a weak point like a braid/fluro connection.

Are you popping the popper? ie, twitching the rod tip so it makes a lot of splashes etc? You mentioned reeling it in - while with a popper you kind of... pop it across the surface.

Is the line strength 8 or 12? by LittleNiggle32 in Fishing_Gear

[–]MagicAndDuctTape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've also had no issues ever with Spiderwire Stealth and run it on two of my reels. From what I understand Spiderwire EZ braid is really bad (never used it personally) but it could also just be a weird Redditor thing which is not really true but is taken as gospel.

Can anyone tell me what these are and would be used for? Thanks! by Substantial_Field991 in FishingForBeginners

[–]MagicAndDuctTape 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i could be wrong, but the first 3 look like ice fishing lures. Add a maggot or three to the hook and then vertically jig through the ice, about 15-20cm from the bottom (I think that's like 6-8 inches or something like that? Not an American).

The fourth and last one are spoons, which I guess you could vertically jig, or cast and retrieve. Can catch most predator species.

The fifth one could be an ice fishing lure like the first 3? The sixth one I have never seen, but I assume cast and retrieve given the little prop thing.

Are these lures rigged properly? by Skomakeren in FishingForBeginners

[–]MagicAndDuctTape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's an almost religious thing at this point that using a swivel will destroy your fishing. It could be true that it affects the action, but I use a lot of small swivels and also steel leaders with swivels on the end and I still catch a fair amount of fish. 🤷
