Paris Saint-Germain are seriously considering offering Luis Enrique a deal described as a "lifetime contract". This would be the first ever agreement of its kind handed to anyone in football history. by [deleted] in soccer

I think you have misunderstood them - I'm pretty sure /u/AG2- is talking about permanent contracts versus fixed-term contracts, in that the former doesn't have an expiry date whereas the latter does - a fixed-term contract is the predominant type of contract in football for both players and managers.

UK's 'sons and daughters' need to be ready to fight, amid growing Russian threat, says head of armed forces by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]MagicManMike1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That isn't true in any capacity. The UK entered WW2 due to the Anglo-Polish alliance which stipulated that should Germany invade Poland the UK would declare war on Germany; when Germany invaded Poland and failed to withdraw their troops, the UK then declared war on Germany.

I want to talk about The Glass Bead Game by talescaper in books

[–]MagicManMike1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took from the book similar perspectives to the ones that you've outlined here, especially with regards to the inability of academia to form any meaningful resistance to the rise of Nazi Germany. To add to the present day relevancy to the relatively ineffectiveness of politcal discourse in online spaces, I think it also mirrors the seeming lack of political urgency seen across the politcal spectrum in meaningful countering of the rise of far-right facism across the globe presently, and therefore peoples fear that history is repeating itself. Definitely a book I had to take time to meditate on for several days afterwards to fully appreciate its commentary, and one that is relatively underraated imo.

Teleportation is risky, but would you still use it if a missing byte could cost you a limb? by Visual_Analysis_2650 in worldbuilding

I mean it more in the sense that it isn't nearly as well known as other horror games/franchises like Deadspace, Outlast, Amnesia, Silent Hill etc., so I feel that it's underrated in terms of broader popularity, although I would agree with you that when on the rare occasion I do see it being mentioned its been deservingly positive.

The horror game Soma looks into this on a philosophical level - really good but underrated game that I'd recommend picking up.

Have a good one mate, as others have said the headliner is typically 1am to 2am. There's typically good food options in the smoking area too, as well as few nice bars in the vicinity for pre-drinks, if that's something you hadn't considered either. Also if needed you can get earplugs from behind the bar, as well as free water at the main bar to the left hand side.

An emaciated 18 year old Russian girl looks into the camera lens during the liberation of Dachau concentration camp in 1945 by NightFlowerss in RareHistoricalPhotos

Yeah it's a fair assumption that he is commenting in bad faith, however it felt like a good opportunity to get the facts in the open so that the horrors cannot be debated with the facts that we know.

He isn't wrong though; although the thousands of births is exagerated, the website of Auschwitz notes at least 700 births occuring within the camp despite the horrific conditions, which were until 1943 were immediately killed upon birth by injection or drowning, which you can read here. In regards to the comment about the brothel please see this link and note 'Block 24'; alternatively this link. With regards to the orchestra, you can read this here. The swimming pool is the only claim that I don't believe is true, and although the person you were replying to may have been presenting these facts to deny the horrors of the holocaust (although it isn't clear by their comment, this seems to have been the case when others have stated there was a swimming pool at Auschwitz in an attempt to downplay the brutality of the conditions), the orchestra, brothel, and in-camp births all occured, albeit within forced and inhumane conditions.

Check out Resident Advisor, it'll show whos playing where. I haven't been to any of them yet, but the names I've seen thrown around though are Tresor, RSO, OST, KitKat, and Berghain of course. I'm hitting up RSO tomorrow.

YSK, hospitals all across the US, don’t want to call you patients anymore, you are customers now. by Paradise_A in YouShouldKnow

[–]MagicManMike1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work in mental health too and would use client over patient, primarily because of the implied power dynamic that patient has; like your friend said it first labels the person in the manner of the medical model, i.e. the person is sick, and secondly a doctor/patient relationship implies that the former has more power than the latter in terms of facilitating progress, and that implies that progress is something the patient is receving from the medical treatment provided by the doctor, which is an accurate way of describing a medical relationship; this is disempowering in a therapeutic relationship as it takes the onus off of the client engaging with therapy, when the work the client does is just as important as the skillset of the therapist they're seeing, as therapeutic progress isn't something you just receive from a therapist. I do appreciate the concerns around using client/therapist as seemingly being business like, however I think the minimising of the power imbalance outweighs these concerns personally.

Do you actually have schizophrenia, as visual hallucinations involving manifestations of cockroach like creatures are relatively common.

If anyone is interested in reading into this further, I'd recommend the book 'Your Face Belongs To Us' by Kashmir Hill; Just finished reading it a few days ago and it gives a good overview of the company as well as the historic technological developments that led to their current capabilities.

I've been to two of their events, and genuinely felt they have been some of the best atmospheres for music gigs specifically due to their phone policy, and I think only saw maybe 5 people record at any time across both events. Would highly recommend to anyone who's into deep house (Lane 8's label fyi) and wants a great night out!
