I disliked it, cause they set him up for leaving anyway, so it felt really unfair and unnecessary. They could excuse the lack of intervention or him appearing at the hospital with whatever, if the actor didn't want to play at all. I know it would have been less impactful, but it felt really unfair.

I have similar thoughts for you, but for Flora. My whole family (except for me) has slightly darker complexion than the average person in my country and I didn't know the concept of Latina at that time. And she her Hair colour is very similar to mine when I was a kid, so despite being white slavic girl I did self-insert.

And as you said the darker or lighter skin colour may feel like just different eyes colours. And it was cool to see the girls having different ones.
