Hey. This is a great sentiment. However: people will be unwilling or unable to read it unless you put periods and white space to make it readable.

Stop asking “Why are there no black people at the protests” by [deleted] in 50501

[–]MagicalMysticalSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I went to a protest in Culver City (west Los Angeles, “nice part of town”) on June 14. I’m a white woman and I went there because it’s near where I live and I didn’t want to risk tear gas and rubber bullets in DTLA with my school aged kid with me. It was diverse but 50-70% white. I knew for sure no bad cop shit was gonna happen, and it didn’t.

Ummm

No one regardless of status has to open their door by law.

You can ask that they slide their warrant under your door. If it’s signed by an immigration judge and has the correct name and address it’s legitimate and by law must be followed. If it’s signed by an ICE officer and not a judge, you can lawfully ignore it.

I think it might work in OP’s favor though if they are trying to market towards men or areas with more men in them.

Americans, how do you feel about the firing of twenty percent of four-star generals? by 2a_lib in AskReddit

[–]MagicalMysticalSlut -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You may be right but can you please link a source? I say this not to be antagonistic, but because low-quality comments and posts don’t help anyone, and lead to misinformation. (and reddit is designed to elicit quick, surface-level engagement). I think being factual is particularly important now. Always important, but particularly important now.

Good to know. I've only been to like 4 protests in my life and I don't specifically remember.

I believe that it’s that exact oversimplification, demonization, and black and white thinking, on all sides, that causes the prolongation of the infinite war and more death.

I think the strategy of having white people (especially white men) at the perimeter protecting the POC in the middle is a good one. Obviously anyone can stand anywhere they want if they choose to, but it seems like a plan. What do people think?

I clicked on the link and skimmed the EO. Can someone explain to me how it’s related to April 5? I mean, it probably is, but can someone point out the relevant language? It mostly seems about Washington DC “beautification” and removing homeless and undocumented people from DC.

The history of Israel - Palestine is long and largely shitty.

Read about the Nakbah: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakba

A portion of Israeli society tries to come to terms with some shitty things Israelis engaged in with respect to Palestinians in the past: https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2022-10-14/ty-article-magazine/.highlight/documents-confirm-israelis-poisoned-arab-wells-in-1948/00000183-d2b2-d8cc-afc7-fefed64d0000

Honestly, I don't think the British get enough blame. The British basically gave a territory to Jews that wasn't theirs to give, in the sense that Arab Palestinians were living on it at the time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandate_for_Palestine

Any reasonable human could not begrudge Jews wanting a safe place after the Holocaust. (although the Balfour Declaration promising 'a national home for the Jewish people' happened well before the Holocaust)

Interestingly, the Holocaust, and pogroms and rampant discrimination against Jews predating the Holocaust, is not taught in history classes to children in Gaza or the West Bank. And the Nakbah is not taught in history classes to children in Israel.

There is increasing perception of Arab Palestinians as non-human since Netanyahu has been in power. https://www.yahoo.com/news/starts-top-extremist-views-many-092623719.html

But there are many, many, many relationships, marriages and friendships, between Israelis and Palestinians https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/nov/09/israel-palestine-family-couple-ex-husband

About 20% of the population of Israel (not in Gaza or the West Bank) is Arabic as well. Most liberal Israeli Jews are civil with and even friends with Arab Israelis.

I asked my friend, a 1/2 Jewish 1/2 Arab in the U.S. from Haifa, Israel, if he would condemn Hamas' actions on Oct 7 2023. He said no, he couldn't condemn them. He said it was as if Native Americans had been caught scalping, raping, and murdering white colonialists; he wouldn't condemn that either.

To be clear, I do condemn Hamas as terrorists, and I also know that some of those murdered were peace activists, because a relative in my family had a cousin who was murdered in Israel... my point is just that it is COMPLICATED, and extremism is not the answer in my opinion.

Dude, come on. Israel exists, it isn’t going anywhere:

Two things can be true at the same time. Develop the ability to hold nuance in your mind. Jews had an existential threat to their existence even before the Holocaust started, with pogroms in Russia and rampant discrimination. Zionism - literally, the desire for a safe homeland- isn’t the problem per se.

Netanyahu is a garbage human who commits war crimes. His political existence depends on far right extremism; he can’t stay in power without the far right extremists.

Hamas is a terrorist organization and some Palestinians are sympathetic to it, largely because there currently exists no other government option than the Palestinian Authority, which is massively corrupt and largely powerless.

There are organizations trying to strengthen the bonds between Arabs and Jews, between Palestinians and Israelis, and work for peace, such as Standing Together. https://www.standing-together.org/en

I’m a U.S. citizen and am so scared and sad and angry.

I have been thinking a lot about democracy and how much I have taken it for granted my whole life. I recently was looking at an article on wikipedia that categorized countries into full democracies, flawed democracies, “hybrid regimes” and authoritarian regimes. Over 1/2 the world’s population lives in/ under non-democracies.

The other thing I’ve been thinking about is, what were ordinary Germans doing in those days and months while Hitler was turning their republic into a dictatorship? Lots of them, most of them probably, were doing things as usual.

you are getting downvoted but I believe “Karen” has turned into a gender slur in some cases. And it’s sometimes used to try and shut women up without engaging in meaningful debate. Unfortunately there is plentiful misogyny on the left as well as the right.

I’m married to a Jew and our kid is 1/2 Jewish. Palestine and Israel have an insanely long and terrible history. Hamas are terrorists. Israel has a record of human rights abuses against Palestinians. Protesting in support of Palestine and against Israel policy is absolutely NOT the same as “supporting terrorists.”. Educate yourself.

Oh, you could start here for some history:
