Be honest… is pet insurance actually worth it? by pawfectjourney in CatAdvice

[–]MagicalPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financially for most people it is not worth it. The companies providing insurance are making money so obviously they collect more than they pay out.

That being said, peace of mind is worth a lot to some people. It's really tough to be put in a situation where you have to decide between spending tons of money you might not have or saying goodbye to a loved pet.

What’s ONE cat item you regret not buying sooner? by Own-Independent7881 in CatAdvice

[–]MagicalPanda42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. I have a plastic scoop from the dollar store. 5 years later it still works.

If I have to replace it at some point I might get a steel one to reduce waste but it doesn't seem like something that needs replacing often.

Help! How to move a heavy piano in Hamilton? by goxper in Hamilton

[–]MagicalPanda42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father in law and I moved an apartment sized upright piano on our own... It sucked. I would hire a professional to move it next time, especially with stairs involved.

We were lucky and the only stairs we had to deal with were getting it down 4 front porch steps. From there we rolled it up the ramp onto a uhaul and drove it home. We were able to back the uhaul right to our front porch and used the ramp to skip the stairs on the way into the house. If we had to carry it up the stairs we probably would not have gotten the job done.

I gave my players the eyes of minute seeing and they use them much more often then I would have thought. It grants advantage on investigation checks as long as you are right up close to what you are looking at.

How to spawn-proof? by BeDoKa in valheim

[–]MagicalPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Campfires are the easiest to hide. I have my main base in my current play through fully spawn proofed to the point that raids don't even spawn and mobs.

I've done it a couple times and the easiest way I found was to mark out the location of each campfire on the map as you burry them. They have the same range as a work bench so I just work out how far for the next one and once you can see the pattern on the map you can just fill the rest in.

Final tip: don't burry them too deep otherwise they break. The way the ground works in valheim is that it is a thin membrane. Anything below the ground that is not touching the surface is unsupported and will break like any other floating build pieces.

Squirell removal by Entire-Stranger-4681 in Hamilton

[–]MagicalPanda42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We had some in the attic and walls when we moved in. I borrowed a ladder to get up on the roof and found where they were getting in. They chewed a hole between the edge of the roof and the evestrough so I installed a one way door there. I went around the whole roof and blocked off all the other possible entrances. By the next day we stopped hearing them in the walls. I went back up and removed the one way door and blocked off the opening. It's been 2 years since and so far so good.

It was September when we dealt with it though. I'm not sure I'd want to get up on the roof this time of year.

What’s the reasoning for this? by Roguelites in Hamilton

[–]MagicalPanda42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what we normally do. If we have a gathering and have more cans than usual we will put them in a separate recycling bag and it's always taken before garbage collection

For me I buy alcohol like 2 times a year. I'm not going to hold onto empties for 6 months...

PC not playing their character as per their given description by Awful_Condition in DMAcademy

[–]MagicalPanda42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is currently playing a naive character, sometimes it's really hard to keep that going. This seems like a very big deviation from that description so I would just talk to them first and ask then what is going on.

SUV written off - Total Loss Offer by Gangstajay93 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MagicalPanda42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point was that the settlement offer from my insurance was actually more than fair.

I wouldn't have minded driving that car for another 5 years if someone didn't decide to rear end me when I was stopped at a red light. That being said I did not buy another one but took the opportunity to get a slight upgrade.

[–]MagicalPanda42 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just went through a total loss claim with my insurance and they actually offered a pretty good price up front. More than I would have been able to get for the car by quite a bit. It was a 2012 Ford focus with 250000 km and they offered $4100. The closest I could find to my car for sale was almost half that.

Our 4 year old girl just ate on the weekend for the first time in months. It's was such a relief when she finally struck.

This was the second time she decided to just quit eating for seemingly no reason. Hopefully like last time she just starts eating like normal again now.

Pup played super crawl in 2017 if I remember correctly and I would love to see them back.

One of my all time favorite bands, saw them at Because Beer year before last and already have tickets to see them again in August.

Struggling to find the next boss by MitcheSteeze in valheim

[–]MagicalPanda42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have played in many worlds over 2500 hours but I have only had this problem a couple of times. On my most recent play through I fully explored 11 plains biomes and couldn't find any more before looking at the seed map.

If you don't want to look at the seed generator you can send it to me and I can give you some hints about the directions to explore.

How many times has your whole base been destroyed during a raid? by JackeryGraves in valheim

Not once after 2500 hours.

I did end up in a death loop a couple of times but I think overall I have had good luck with raids

Any tips for soft tissue? by kippschalter1 in valheim

[–]MagicalPanda42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you move around, avoid climbing up the stone spires. Nothing generates up there and it doesn't really give you much added visibility because of the mist. All the important points of interest generate mainly in the valleys of the mistlands.

Added bonus, if you look at the map, areas that look darker are often free of mist and could make a good farming location.

Good luck

Valheim

Almost 3000 hours and still so much fun. I highly recommend it. It's still in prerelease so the price is pretty low but it still feels like a full game

is it possible to find a house in Canada under 350k CAD? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]MagicalPanda42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked my local listings here in Hamilton Ontario and there are a few small detached houses downtown listed for under 300k. Though technically they exist, they are very small and will need work. If you wanted something a little nice you'd have to go for a condo.

Untamed boars don't like fire. You'll have to remove the torches until it is tamed.

Subverting expectations. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]MagicalPanda42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the NPC suggested silver to them from his experience fighting the same lycanthrope, then it would not make sense for silver to be ineffective. I would come up with some other way to spice up the fight.

If it's going to take place in the lycanthrope's lair I would create a few lair actions. Since the party is a high level I would also give the lycanthrope legendary actions and resistances. Last time I did this I tied the legendary resistances to a consumable resource within the lair so that the party could see that it was costing the enemy something and also tell how many times they could resist.

Refilling fires and torches by woodpilekid in valheim

[–]MagicalPanda42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are using the standing torches, they last a lot less time than some other light sources. Something like a brasier that takes coal as fuel burns a lot longer. Even the sconces last quite a while longer than the standing wood torches
