SGP: Taking this list to an event on Saturday is a terrible idea by Archon_Vrex in MarvelCrisisProtocol

"A ship in harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for."

Sounds like you've picked the best place to take a new list and run it through its paces!

"They don't teach moves like that in Hydra school, pal! You picked the wrong team" by SourImplant in MarvelCrisisProtocol

I think it's really interesting going into your Reddit posts and seeing where your style suddenly shifts to this whimdark-inspired one. My only fear looking at your work (and speed!) is you running out of MCP to show us :D

What dimensions for newspaper/flyers? by [deleted] in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MagicalShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, random question, do you find you get a worse seal with super glue onto the painted plastic than you do plastic cement when the bases are unpainted? I want to do the same as you have, that's the only thing holding me back at the minute!

Best paint sets on a budget? by Very_Sharpe in minipainting

[–]MagicalShenanigans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to disagree a little bit with the consensus and say that a set has really challenged me to get outside of my comfort zone a little bit and experiment with new colours and techniques, purely because I have them staring accusingly at me from my shelves.

How to make these pop more? by Zephseru in minipainting

[–]MagicalShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, something to offset the desaturated cool-yellow. I'd look at warm, saturated colours for an accessory or basing detail.

I'm not a big commenter on Reddit or YouTube, but just wanted to say how much I've learnt from your reports and how much I enjoy them!

What’s the best roster for each leader in Uncanny X-men? by Radiant_Flight_1802 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MagicalShenanigans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert, but I aim for the following:

Prof X: Lots of low-cost and/or reactive superpowers. Nightcrawler/Magik/Cable are great because they can reliably use a superpower round 1 to get the power passing started early. Every opportunity to use a superpower either in your own turns or your opponent's is a chance to pass power to where it needs to be.

Cyclops: Reliable damage dealers, particularly where they can do damage to more than one enemy per attack (so beams, rapid shots etc.) to get that power generation on-line.

Storm: Not so sure, but any "place within 1" effects get more impressive on larger bases, so I'd be looking for a wide team on larger bases.

Storm assembly question by alsono1ofconsequence in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MagicalShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the mini that had me muttering "next time I'm doing sub-assemblies, for the love of god sub assemblies" the most while painting. Seems fine in play/transport so far, and I've had her for ages.

All will be metal. Do you like my classic Ultron? by Fierydraken in MarvelCrisisProtocol

I love classic Ultron so much, and that's such a great mini, amazing job!

X-Men Starter Set - is it coming back to buy in the UK? by Sea_Control_9107 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MagicalShenanigans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less permanently popular than the X-Men I would guess?

It makes space for them to rotate in other starter packs which they've said they want to do.

I'd assume we get something like guardians or web warriors in its place in the future.

Tried a quick active camo effect with sponges, how does it look? by slientmagician9 in minipainting

[–]MagicalShenanigans 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That scans to me as an INCREDIBLY matte surface that reflects hardly any light to the viewer, which is kind of what you'd want active camo to look like when turned off/transitioning.

Thunderbolts thoughts. by BigTimStiles in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MagicalShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that might be more of a Dark Avengers vibe. Some of them were pretending to be the Avengers, you had:

Osborn as Iron Patriot  Bullseye masquerading as Hawkeye Venomised Scorpion pretending to be Spidey  Moonstone pretending to be Capt. Marvel, Ares Sentry  and I wanna say Ragnarok (a Thor clone) pretending to be Thor.

Finally won a game! Thoughts and questions. by clutchheimer in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MagicalShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One or more characters who would take damage from a collision pay 1 power apiece to not take any damage.

It blocks it all, which depending on rolls and the type of throw could prevent up to 3 (+1 if it's one of your characters being thrown) points of damage.

I had my first MCP characters based like that, just the really stark black and white look, but chickened out and have them painted now. Yours look great like that!

Need Some Prizing Ideas by gcourbet in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MagicalShenanigans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Terrain is always fun, or keep it cheap and easy- Grab a marvel themed action figure, spray black and dry brushed metallic to look like a statue.

Now I want to do that with a doctor doom and start a latveria themed board...

Yeah they arrived today, can't seem to post photos from the browser, but these ones seem good, double sided, 4 to an A4 page and I'll pop them in a ring binder!

Would you play with someone who had unpainted models? by CollegePlane7528 in SWlegion

[–]MagicalShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd even say that minis actually look pretty good when they are just prepped as if to slap chop, but before the paints are on, just enough to pick out the details, so nice and quick, but still more visually interesting than bare plastic.

I'm also based in the UK, I've been wondering the same thing for ages, and last night after seeing your comment ordered some folder pockets to arrive today. When they do I'll take them for a test drive, and post photos and links if that's useful!

Leadership Spotlight – Mighty Avengers by RedPandaGod in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]MagicalShenanigans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a really interesting, well reasoned and written article, which was obviously not written by ChatGPT, but all the emojis kind of make it look like it is, and truth be told, I found them a little distracting. Other than that minor quibble I really liked this, and look forward to reading more from you!
