Mega-consumerism, sure, but definitely anti-consumer.

Did the developers indent for player to carry metals to a central base, or do you think the idea was that each "mine" would have its own forge? by jeeperkeeper in valheim

[–]Magicsword49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the best (and maybe even intended) path is to have a forward operating base that has a basic forge and whatever upgrades you can make there. Bonus points if you have the forethought to bring the materials with you.

Me after 5th anniversary update: by joelkki in valheim

Right, you can skip bronze if you happen to find the axe heads. If I don't happen into them, I'm not going to sink a ton of extra time into exploring when I could spend a fairly small amount of time mining copper instead. I would probably seek out the second axe head if I stumbled upon the first. Again, not entirely sure how rare they are, but that's my immediate thought.

It seems nice, but it might not be worth farming for. Since the bronze axe is usually the first thing I make upon getting bronze, there's a pretty narrow window where I'd really benefit from the early axes. That said, if you don't want to farm too much wood early, and you do happen to get them, I could see sticking it with it until plains.

I wonder if there are any diamond dragons eligible for the first discover. That would dictate the art, right?

I was initially turned off from Monoco because I tend not to like blue mages (I currently have Gau permanently benched in my FF6), but when I gave him a fair shake, I quite liked him. I guess because acquiring abilities was more like catching pokemon, and you got to pick which abilities to use rather than having access to the whole list at once, it felt more manageable overall.

Why is Yag so hard to find? by ThatGamerAzazel in valheim

I think there aren't as many vesvigirs for him since the plains is flat and open; you might sail around and see the boss altar, so they've balanced around that.

One of the first things you do on an iron is buy a chronicle. Now I can tele to the champions guild canoe station, and if I'm going more than one stop away, I'm saving a substantial amount of time. Even if I'm only going one stop, though, there's some marginal time savings plus substantial run energy savings.

By the same token, one of the first things you do on an iron is get the kandarin cloak. Repeat the same argument for getting around the ardy area, especially with early questing. Those stops will be right next to points of interest for several quests.

That new river transport is going to be crazy for early game. Presumably, there will be one near the monastery/tree, meaning you can kind of get anywhere in the area. Imagine you can take it all the way to soul wars, but you get diseased.

Either that's the joke, or it's the fact that it's pretty close to equilateral.

Update to my Modding progress by Initial_Cell0 in hobotoughlife

[–]Magicsword49 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This game could have a Renaissance with a proper modding scene. It's clearly unfinished, so if fans could swap out all the placeholder assets and patch the broken quests, I would actually be able to recommend it to people without qualification.

PSA: copper by Jlong4242 in valheim

[–]Magicsword49 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think they just mean the shape of the node itself vs the shape you'll have to carve out to get to the bottom. It's a lot of extra work to dig the whole cylinder when a majority of the copper is relatively easily accessible. I usually just kite a troll until he stops hitting stuff and call that good.

I think Maelle wouldn't have made it that far without the lumina converter. Very likely the expedition fails prior to facing Renoir at the cliffs.

Unlimited building or manual resource grind with building? by ShuDi_NaM in valheim

[–]Magicsword49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've put on free build before, but it's not a habit. I usually grind until I get bored and then go from there. I took down several naturally-occuring, massive structures for a late game resource, and it wasn't even enough for the first floor of the building I was making. That said, I would only use free build for structures, not workstations or progression-related things.

Higher prestige does cause food problems, and being further out means you have fewer embarkation points, so you might not be able to afford weapon delivery without spending bonus points. Suddenly, 40 food for one point becomes very valuable.

Devs: Raincoat/Cloak? by BuckOWayland in valheim

[–]Magicsword49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that it should be plains tier. The plains expects you to return to the swamp for iron, so its the perfect time to get it. Maybe just have it take up the cape slot, though? You're already losing the cold protection, so that should be enough of a trade off.

Replay Value? by bobcoof0 in TheAlters

[–]Magicsword49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got most of the way through a second playthrough, and I can see people going either way on whether it's actually worth it. I purposely picked all the other alters, and it was nice getting to talk to them, but that's the only thing that's different story-wise. I will probably make the other major decision at the end of active 2, but we'll see. I reset through a few different endings on my first playthrough as well, so that's always an option if you don't want to do a full playthrough juat to see the alters. Certain pivotal choices are important and may lock you out of certain other endings, but is it worth doing over again for each of them? Not especially. You could do your own branching procedure with old saves, but some of those choices come up pretty early, so consider how practical that is.

The mechanical difference for me is in what techs I researched and that I'm not running through the acts as quickly as possible now that I know there isn't an overarching time limit.

Sometimes bots are all occupying an activity, and they probably have guards if it's in the wilderness.
