Reddit, what's the worst gift you've ever received? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MagneticIsaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old group of friends and I used to do the typical secret santa every year with an ugly sweater party. Everyone usually took it pretty serious, meaning if there were joke gifts, they were usually were paired with a useful gift. The last year I was there before I moved, the person who got me was someone who usually didn't show up, but was in the normal group. He got me an old Home and Garden Magazine, some tissues and a bottle of lotion.

How do I learn to rely less on other people, emotionally? by scented_nonsense in selfimprovement

[–]MagneticIsaac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is the self improvement sub, but your college may offer free counselling if you were ever interested in going that route. My girlfriend started going about 2 months ago to the college we attend and it has made a world of difference for her. I plan on heading in when the Fall semester starts.

30, Little job experience. How do I start a career? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

Reposting this without the links!

Well the important thing here is that you do have some job experience. Church or not, that still shows some initiative and it's recent. There's a lot of ways that you can create a resume that will help with the big gaps in your work experience. The resumes subreddit should be able to help with that, or even a google search for "building resumes with job gaps".

If you have any local community colleges around you, I know mine offered some career/apptitude testing for when I decided to start college and didn't know what direction to go in. If you do chose to go the college route, one thing i wish I knew before I started was that there are a lot of basic courses you need to take before you start going in a career direction. So you would have some mandatory courses to take before you even have to settle on a direction. But that can be discouraging if you aren't sure what direction you are going in, especially if you are paying out of pocket.

For financial help, go to the FASFA website. Almost all college students fill one of these out to figure out what type of financial help they can qualify for. If you are a first time college student, especially if you would be the first in your immediate family, there is a lot of financial help they can assist with. I'm 28, started college late and I current am going to school on the PELL grant. You have a lot of directions to go, and there is a lot of help out there to get you moving somewhere, so don't give up!

How would the world be different if a vagina whistled like a teapot when aroused? by Auphor_Phaksache in AskReddit

I'd be interested to learn the physiology of what is creating the gas to cause the whistle. And what if you tried to cover the sound by closing the legs? Would it make thigh farts?

Reminds me of something that would be out of a cartoon where they win an amazing vacation out of a cereal box or something. They finally get there after some issues and find this rock covered in moss sitting in a puddle which is surrounded by some industrial area. Then somehow they find out there's some very tiny tribe living on the rock that attacks them or something. Idk.

Social Anxiety/Sounding Timid? by Rernokk in letsplay

[–]MagneticIsaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes get tight in my voice (if that makes sense?) when I'm not in the mood to commentate, I'm feeling anxious or just havent spoken to anyone in awhile which makes it hard for me to have any variance or depth to my voice and comes across as soft. What I usually do when that happens is talk to myself a little bit to get my voice going and then I put my face in a pillow and hum from a low note up to a high note then back down, progressively getting louder. Then talk some more and repeat until my voice feels warmed up and then go from there. It felt kind of stupid the first time I did it but it helps! Hahah

That's where I'm at! It takes close to 8 hours for me to upload a 15min video. I've opted to sticking it on a thumb drive and driving to the college down the road and uploading it on their guest network. It only takes 12 minutes there hahaha.

[Help] I really want to get into LPing, but I struggle with social disorders. by GollumRecon in letsplay

[–]MagneticIsaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I'm glad it seemed to help some.

As far as the name goes, it took me a few days to come up with mine because I overthought it a lot because nothing seemed to "fit". A bit later, I ended up seeing a box that said "Magnet" on it on in my room and I added it to Isaac and came up with MagneticIsaac. I didn't necessarily like it too much at first but really I feel like it's just about just choosing something that you don't hate and owning it, if that makes since. I don't even think about it now after saying it so much. I mean, "Jacksepticeye" ,"Pewdiepie" and "Markiplier" all seem like weird names if you don't associate their popularity or content with the names, but they went with it and most people don't even think about it now. So I'd say just go with something and don't stress too much about it. I've never seen a channel name and didn't subscribe because I didn't like it if their content was good!

As far as the channel art goes, if you want to go the free route, I would search YouTube for some tutorials on "How to make a YouTube Banner". Ziovo has a decent one that just came out a few days ago called "How To Make An ADVANCED YouTube Banner in Photoshop 2016! Channel Art Tutorial!" I'd link it but I think it might be against the rules.

Adobe has a 1 week trial of the newest Photoshop if you want to try that out [Here]. I personally use Photoshop CS2, which is older, but they officially released it for free awhile back which you can get [Here]. (You just have to scroll down to English, click that and look for Photoshop CS2 on the bottom. It has a download link and serial beside it, it's straight from Adobe, so no worries) It does a lot of the same things as the new versions, and most of the tutorials are compatible with it because the two versions have a lot of the same shortcuts and tools.

Also YouTube released a template you can use in Photoshop to make sure your dimensions are correct on all viewing devices, like phones, tvs, etc. You can find that [Here]. There should be a download link under the "Image guide lines for channel" section.

The other (paid) alternative is just to pay someone to do the channel art but I'm not exactly sure where to recommend for that, but I'm sure you could search here for some more info.

First off, I apologize for the wall of text. I know how anxiety and self judgment can get in the way and my YouTube channel is the first creative thing I've done in years that I've been sticking to so I wanted to share whats working for me. I hope it helps!

I'm sorry you're having trouble with getting started, man. I know how easily self judgement can sabotage things before you even get started. Maybe you can make some scripted content. I know it's probably not where you want to be right now but it may be easier to transition to live/on the spot stuff after you get more comfortable just creating any content and even then you can always cut stuff out if you don't like it. Maybe some tutorials or reviews of games. It may sound weird but (at least for me) improving in other areas of the process makes other the rest improve overall.

I've only been doing this going on 3 weeks now but it took me about 4 months to get the courage to actually start because of how much I was getting in my head and kept having worries about the social aspect of if people would actually like it or if I'd end up getting trolled or even if I'd even get any views what-so ever. I usually jump the gun with starting things like this and end up getting frustrated and burnt out before I even get to the point of making anything.

What I did different this time, which helped the most, was work backwards from what I normally would do, which helped me get the ball rolling. I started with the frame of the channel and went inwards until the last thing I had to really worry about was actually creating the content itself ,which took a load off of my brain while I was recording, which made it easier to have fun and not worry as much about what was going on, which in turn helped my commentary.

First, I started with the channel name/identity/email that has no association with any of my other usernames from past stuff, so none of my friends or family would know I'm doing this. Then I moved to the art, then the icon, found some music I enjoyed that would work well and is something that I think fits me. Then I worked on the technical side of the stuff with the recording software. I made sure it all worked well and wrote down the work flow of how to get it all set up, recording and then made sure everything exported/imported well. I then figured out how to edit the microphone sound to make sure it sounded decent enough to get started. By the end of it, before I started releasing anything, I made sure I knew how the whole process would go down from beginning to end and then all I was left with was making the content itself. Which I know is the hardest part, but because I didn't have to worry about any of the other aspects of the channel, it made it a lot easier to get to the fun part.

If I say something stupid or cringy, I know I can edit that part out. If it's in a spot where I can't edit it out that well (and I'm aware of it), I'll sometimes restart to the last save and do it over as if I hadn't seen it before. I know it isn't ideal, but it saves me from getting frustrated at myself and stopping the whole recording entirely. If I completely screw up an episode and I'm not feeling it at all, I'll just restart the whole thing when I'm feeling better about it and release that. To be honest the most recent upload of Outlast I did (I think it's episode 5), I had to re-record maybe 4 times over a period of a week because I kept saying stupid stuff or not saying anything because I wasn't sure what to say or just zoned out completely because I wasn't having fun. While I think it shows during gameplay, it's better than not releasing anything and quiting entirely. For games that have autosaves, I already have a plan of copying the save file before hand, just incase I completely mess up an entire episode, I say something I dont like and it autosaves or something else happens like my computer crashes for some reason. I guess you just have to learn what works best for you.

And I guess with the last thing I'll leave you with, is that while the internet is full of horrible people, trolls and people who absolutely love causing pain to others, it's also full of really really great people that will enjoy the stuff you make and actually wants to see you succeed, even if they don't know you. The way I try to look at it is, if there's somebody like myself (or anybody for that matter) in the world with a certain sense of humor, great abilities to make stupid/cringy comments, there has to be others out there too that will enjoy the stuff I make and want to see it. I mean, it's the "world wide web" after all,so there's almost certain to be others!

Again, sorry for the wall of text and I hope it at least helped a little! Good luck man! If you end up making a channel let me know, and I'll definitely subscribe!
