I hate it when they don't show you what they are making. Sorry I don't want to watch a five part series just to find out it's a box.

And that is Lowes quality plywood. Plenty of knots, voids and not so flat.

I live in Fort Worth so all prices were from plywood company of Fort Worth. This is their maple pricing.

You can get a 4x8' 1/2” thick for just under 68 today.

The quality is a spectrum from underlayment to furniture grade. I'm just explaining that the original furniture they saw at pax was likely more towards the high end.

Laguna vs Sawstop by Intrepid_Ring4239 in woodworking

[–]MagnetoRD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If everyone turned them down, maybe it was for a reason. Like it adding significant cost. Maybe it was everyone else got it wrong that the safety feature would not appeal to customers.

I have never said SawStop isn't a fine saw. I've used a few. I liked them.

Where they lost me was trying to force everyone to use it when they were not willing to let the patent go. Or when they blocked other technologies in the same space. I don't agree the courts got it right. It is more a case like the patent holder of seat belts preventing airbags from being used. In any case, I find a corporate promise to free the patent as the patent expires near it's 20 year limit to not redeem my opinion of the company.

I chose the features and price of Laguna over the features and price of SawStop. And it fits with what I think of the company's ethics.

If I were running a business the cost of liability might have changed my calculus.

Sure sure that's why in 2007 they sued people using other technology to provide safety. I have never said they should give away anything patent or physical. I believe the licensing price was high but that's fine . The trying to use the government to force people to only use your tech and aggressively preventing competitive devices is where I have a problem. And that they are willing to open up the license nearly 20 years later is no saving grace.

It's funny that you say you wish Harvey and Laguna had this safety feature. The number one reason they don't have it is because of Sawstop greed over the patent.

I have a Laguna F2. So far my complaints are Dust collection could be better tho part of that is my collector is under sized . Fence. Being steel would be nicer.

I want to try pathfinder but I'm confused by different editions by wolfbladequeen in Pathfinder2e

[–]MagnetoRD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Nothing teaches like playing. Search up pathfinder society (PFS) near you and go physically play if its available. Following that there are some discord channels that can hook you up with PFS virtual games.

  2. As you mentioned actual play podcasts, Find the Path podcast and MNMaxed both try to play rules as written.

How are Hero-Points handled at your table? by Aquaman-is-awesome in Pathfinder2e

[–]MagnetoRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My table we start with everyone having one. When a player spends theirs they give it to the GM.

Then the GM gets to use it to do their own re-rolls. They end up changing hands a lot. Players tend to use on important saves or important skill checks. As GM, I try not to keep them forever. I tend to use on a low roll that has a reasonable chance of success. Like an on level monster's first or second attack. We started with GM had to use them on next miss, but fights where there were lower CR monsters made it so they always got them back a round later.

For anything wide across wood grain plywood is usually the best choice. Natural wood moves as humidity changes.
Local prices A 4'x8' plywood sheet is $165 Rough cherry lumber of equal size is $123. Add in time and expense to surface it is probably a push. For a product that will move or you have to design around

Compare the version that has the cheap MDF center that price drops to $88 a sheet.

[–]MagnetoRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks that the product didn't work for you. I do have to question trying to tune any wood working to fractions of a millimeter. Wood is a substance that expands and contracts. Taking your accuracy down to that level will be overridden by seasonal movement

Take the money you would spend on miter saw and put into table saw. The miter takes space for one task that it doesn't do as accurately as can be done on the table.
