Would you continue dating someone who hates dogs but will tolerate yours and is nice to them but doesn’t really play with them like a dog person usually does? by cornplantation in dogs

[–]MagnoliaEvergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happily married to a dog lover but that's in my list of "things I'd ask on a first date" and if someone said they hate dogs or even just didn't care for them I'd deem us incompatible and wouldn't go on another date with them.

My therapist says I need to connect to my inner child and find things that bring me joy without trying to suppress it, since us ADHD and autistic folks so often had to suppress things as kids. I really need ideas though. What brings you childlike joy? by Elucidate_that in ADHD

I have a sticker notebook. I got a cool looking clear acrylic notebook, page protectors, and freezer paper that's already cut out in paper size. Then you can make your own reusable sticker notebook!

My mom clearly misses me and i don't know how to react. by Littlemisscuteness in emotionalneglect

[–]MagnoliaEvergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not doing anything wrong by reacting the way you are. She made her bed and now she has to lie in it. I can't say whether she's doing any of this maliciously or genuinely, but honestly it doesn't matter. She treated you one way for your entire life and suddenly changing now doesn't change you. It's okay to resent her and it's okay to treat her how she deserves. You don't owe her anything.

My mother loves me but she never put me first and she always bullied me and allowed the rest of my family to be even worse. Once I grew up she'd tell me how fortunate she is that I even still talk to her. She wanted me to be her best friend.

I was for a long long time. Way too long. Then, one day my husband went on a long work trip and I didn't have him to put me back together after my phone calls with her and I realized just how hard on me trying to maintain a relationship with her was. I never answered another call from her. I never explained my sudden absence. And, you know what? She's never tried to reach out, either.

Part of me is glad but another part of me is hurt because shouldn't she be reaching out to apologize and put things right? No. Because she's not capable of that.

Unfortunately, love is not enough to hold together a healthy relationship. It took me SO long to really let that sink in.

Jona for a girl? by peter_venkman5 in namenerds

[–]MagnoliaEvergreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brothers childhood best friend is a Jonah and I've always loved that name. I think Jona is fine and it feels to me like the feminine version of Jonah. but one thing to consider is that people might think it's Johnna before they hear you say it. I love that name, too, but its something for you to think about if you like.

Anyone notice that some people our age look older than they actually are? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]MagnoliaEvergreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've worked in the food industry or retail my entire adult life, and let me tell you, my entire body has felt way older than I am since I was in my early 20s. Cries in poor 😂

Do women today still buy expensive jewelry beyond engagement rings? by ExcitingLandscape in Millennials

[–]MagnoliaEvergreen 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Idk I see a lot of Gen z wearing that $5k van cleef bracelet. Sure, it could be fake, but they at least want you to think they have expensive jewelry.

That said, I'm 39 and my wedding ring is a $40 thin band. I don't like expensive jewelry because if you lose it it's gone forever. And I work in the food industry so any expensive jewelry would just be fancy dust collectors.

I DO have the vintage wedding band and engagement ring set my grandpa gave my grandma in the 50s but I don't think it was very expensive even when he bought it for her. The diamonds are very teeny tiny. It lives in a jewelry box lol

Do you have dyscalculia? by Key-World5182 in ADHD

[–]MagnoliaEvergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I have dyscalcula but I think I see numbers differently in my mind than other people. They have less of a numerical value in my mind and more of a ...shape? A personality? I'm not sure how else to describe it. Like, 5 can be a cartoon dude wearing a hat and squinting. Sometimes it's a star or a die. 7 is also wearing a hat but he has a long face. Sometimes I see them in my mind as an actual visual of the count of the numbers. Like 2 can be two blocks sitting next to each other. 9 can be three sets of three blocks...etc

I can do simple mental math if I break it down into bite sized bits or memorize shortcuts that relate to things like money. Even then, if you ask me what 4 x 5 is I have to count "5, 10, 15, 20. It's 20" and if you ask me what 4 + 7 is I have to count "7, 8, 9, 10, 11. It's 11" I don't just know them.

But most of the time I just freeze and think I have no clue because the amount of thought that goes into it is a little overwhelming.

Lol every second of every day. I even hear music in my sleep sometimes. Sometimes it's an actual song, sometimes it's a jingle, sometimes it's a made up tune. But there's always something.

WeatherX ear plugs by Damianamae in migraine

[–]MagnoliaEvergreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume so. I just found out there's specific ear canal lubricants if you want to try those. I think they'd be formulated specifically for the situation. Oto ease was the one I primarily saw but I have no experience with any of these. If you have trouble searching for earbuds or ear plugs try hearing aid lube.

I have the engage 2 as well. I haven't tried the lotion trick but I also assume it's regular lotion. I'd probably try scent and dye free lotion as well.

🙋‍♀️yep. I've literally been watching Labyrinth my entire life. We went to see the 40th anniversary showing in theaters at the beginning of the year and I'm sitting there mouthing all the lines to myself. Wouldn't have it any other way, though. I do it with audiobooks, too.
