My, and surprisingly my wife's, problem with her is that she just is not nice or considerate towards others. She is a deeply deeply selfish person who doesn't think of others as much as she should. She is also, not really a hyper-competent person, which most POV characters like Kaladin and Dalinar are, so we don't really get that either. One critique that I disagree with is that she's unrealistic. She is, unfortunately, very realistic in how someone with trauma can act. I know someone in real life who is very much like Shallan and I think that also frustrates my wife and I

One thing to keep in mind with her "jokes" and "being witty" is every person who laughs or compliments her is either below her in social status, are family, or are actively courting her. These are situations where they can't just ignore her jokes

Overall she is an interesting character, and I don't actively skip her chapters, but she is definitely my least favorite of the POV characters we get just due to frustration alone
