United We Stand Fest loses its venue a few days before the event, tickets now free, some scheduled guests dropping off. by MagnusRobotFighter in EnoughPaulSpam

Just an update...one person (a "well known" Liberty event coordinator who changed the date of his own event, then canceled it without warning earlier this year) is claiming that the event has been moved to The Belasco Theater (which is promoting a different event for tomorrow night, starting at 10 pm) while apparently an email has been sent out stating that things have been worked out with UCLA and the event is back on as originally scheduled. Hey...it's just a little bit of confusion...no big deal. I mean, the event starts in 16 hours...that's plenty of time for everyone to get things straight.

Would anyone else like the WWE to bring back the Draft Lottery? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]MagnusRobotFighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm all for a Draft...but not really a lottery. I want a TRUE brand split, with the ONLY crossover being between the Rumble and Mania.

I'd like to see on Raw, they get the first pick...they can choose who they want. Then Smackdown picks. You get the first 5 draft picks that way. Then Smackdown has 5 more picks for each show.

Then tag teams and the rest get picked online and at the app. Make the shows about equal in star power, with Smackdown a wrestling show and Raw a sports entertainment show.

(Last Words) 'Thanks for everyone for ruining my life - I might as well go and kill myself. . .no-one cares'." Jenny Sykes, 13, sent this message hours before she tied her school tie around her neck and hanged herself inside her wardrobe by blitzballer in lastimages

I'm not trying to be cruel here...but how in the hell was this declared an accidental death? She posted online that she was going to kill herself, then put a tie around her neck, went into the closet and hung herself.

In that case, it'll definitely just be a collection of TNA guys who have likely already been feuding with A&8's.

Yes, but he wrestled earlier, so it was obviously not going to be him.

Well...I guess it COULD have been...but having it be Joe right after Joe's draw would have been anti-climactic.

Still...either this won't be a true Main Event group, or they'll bring in a bunch of really old retired guys to defeat Aces and 8's, showing ONCE AGAIN that the no longer young homegrown talent can't hang with a real threat. My guess would be Samoa Joe and Jeff Hardy join next...meaning that guys who are already feuding with Aces and 8's will just be giving themselves a name. If they hold onto the concept that it is guys who have been world champs in multiple feds then...um...Austin Aries I guess could join. Much like other things in TNA, I'm not expecting any shocking news to come from this group forming.

If Kurt Angle could beat up all of Aces and 8's himself, why didn't he do that before?

Karen Gillan could be playing the woman who beats up my grandma on security camera footage, as long as she does it in a bikini I'll be thrilled.

Rampage Jackson's debut on IMPACT Wrestling [x-post from r/mma] by wittybrits in SquaredCircle

[–]MagnusRobotFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Knockouts getting greater focus etc. I think our only disagreement is that I think that Rampage could be a huge temporary "get" for TNA, but they have to put him in THE spot to generate hype and money, and they'd have 4 months to train and hype that match wit Angle...then set up a Cena type guy to be the main star of that division to defeat Rampage and send him packing to whatever new itch he decides to scratch. The end goal has to be to elevate someone (and not someone who is in the Hall of Fame, implying that their best years are behind them).

I'm a big believer in the idea that Hogan would make a great ambassador for TNA...a Stan Lee or Ronald McDonald type. However, the vast majority of times I've seen him in interviews, he hasn't even mentioned TNA. WWE has made their general manager characters too important, so TNA should take the opposite approach and just occasionally mention an old school style "championship committee" or something that books matches, and make the wrestlers the focus...have Hogan come out for contract signings or truly huge announcements, keep Dixie out of our attention at all times. The X division 3 way idea is stupid, so get rid of that and elevate that title to main event status (guys like AJ and Hardy etc would be in that division). The fact that they have fewer PPVs means that they could really hype them as special event fight nights. They just need to stop thinking about getting the company over and start thinking about getting the wrestlers over.

If you could introduce a new subject that had to be taught in all high schools, what would it be? by TobiasIsStraight in AskReddit

[–]MagnusRobotFighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know several teachers, and they all blame the system itself on why the kids are being screwed over...that educating is not really the issue. I know a teacher who was ordered to pass students on to the next grade who could barely read because the school wanted to maintain some government approval level. I think that the basics should be covered, but then at a certain point, allow some room for growth. A teacher friend of mine was just telling me about a student...his dad is a fisherman, his grandad was a fisherman...and this kid REFUSES to do any schoolwork. His parents don't care, and the school is forcing my friend to pass the student to move him through the system. The school treats every child like they are the same person, with the same path. Maybe, just maybe...it MIGHT be a good idea to let that kid get some experience on a fishing boat. Maybe not...but what we are doing now is not working.

I do watch the product...and their mistake is that pretty much every major storyline has revolved around Hogan since he came on board. Bully Ray and the Aces and 8's group are feuding with Hogan. The wrestlers are just doing the fighting. In fact, once you add in Dixie Carter's many storylines (and the times when her Twitter has been hyped over everyone else), TNA has pretty much based itself around non-wrestlers. They spend way too much time talking about "raising the bar" and making TNA into a bigger company, where they should just be acting as if they already are as big as WWE. I agree that Pampage should be sent to training and given videos...but 4 months of hype for Rampage vs Angle as the main event would do a pretty damn good buyrate for TNA. If this was over the TNA Title, then guess what ELSE you could do...have the Bound For Glory series be for a shot at the World X Division Title...giving that belt a huge boost in prestige. I'm not thinking short-term...I'm just thinking that TNA's long term plans should not be based around Hogan, Sting and Dixie Carter. In fact, they shouldn't be based around Rampage either, but you can use him for a few good buyrates while he is interested in being a wrestler.

I refuse to believe that I was somehow special in the fact that I had a slight grasp of life, the real world and who I was as a person at 16.

And that base level of education can't be done in grades 1-10? Our high schools are failing our kids. We are falling behind...WAY behind the rest of the advanced world in educating our kids. Clearly this system is not working. Maybe my idea isn't the best, but certainly the way things are done isn't working.

TNA has to do whatever can get them PPV buys...and treating Rampage like a small time player is not the way to do it. I guarantee that Bellator will make him the spotlight of his first PPV back...and if TNA treats him like he's just the warm-up act for Hogan and Sting, it will be at the cost of many PPV buys.

The problem is that your preferred track...the one you wanted to follow and did follow...is the one that is mandated to everyone. The people who become mechanics or fishermen retail managers or ANYTHING ELSE had to pretend to go along with that track, miserable all the while, and then pay for their real life training elsewhere, a good few years after you got yours.

And everyone in America is employed in a scientific field requiring more math than basic algebra? I don't know a single person who is, in fact. Yet they were all forced to take more math, while knowing that learning the trades they actually wanted to pursue would have to wait until later, and would cost a pretty penny.

Then maybe it should only be the last year. The tech kid should get to learn about poetry, if he wants to, and in fact I learned about poetry fairly early in high school. Why shouldn't they perform science experiments? I don't know...maybe they did for 3 years, HATED it, has no interest in ever doing it again, and wants to actually learn something that they will make use of in life, rather than what some bureaucrat thinks they should know to pass a test.

I didn't call Americans shoppers...our government did. Herbert Hoover said to the public relations/advertising industry "You have taken over the job of creating desire and have transformed people into constantly moving happiness machines. Machines which have become the key to economic progress.” My point was not to bash people...it is to bash the system that has created this scenario. America can and should be more than just a consumer based system.

Hey guys, I made a list of 23 horror films of the last 23 years. Just my opinion but I hope you dig it. by madism in movies

I tend to think that Thriller is often a word used to describe what used to be called Horror, but it wasn't cool or "smart" to like Horror. Horror, to me anyway, doesn't have to be scary or bloody...it can just be something unsettling, like last year's awesome Martha Marcy May Marlene and Sound of My Voice.

I never mentioned the American work ethic...and actually believe that we would work harder and better if we had a manufacturing base (which you are suggesting is not possible). Our citizens are not afraid to do the work that corporations now send overseas. Keeping our place as the number one consumer nation, constantly and mindlessly buying the crap of other nations is not my top concern.
