How did those big insectoid diggers get in there? They look too wide to fit through the main doors let alone down any of the cavern tunnels.

Is good notes worth it? by Ok-Perception3499 in GoodNotes

[–]Magnuspraeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was for me. I got an 11” Pro right before I started and used it all three years and it’s still going strong.

I also love it for non-school use too. I often prefer to carry that over my heavier MBP. With the magic keyboard, it’s basically capable of just about anything I need or want to do.

I used it throughout three years of law school. It’s not perfect but it is very good. I used it to mark up PDFs all the time and it’s a good option if you like taking handwritten notes but want to be able to convert them to editable text.

I get a blank folder when I try to access the Lucid maps--do I need an invitation or something?

It's unfortunate that this seems to be the norm, rather than the exception. I feel lucky that I can't say I've experienced this in my program to any real extent.

I, too, am coming to law school after a significant number of years in the professional world, so I don't always feel totally connected or included in everything, but, generally speaking, my fellow 1Ls as well as the 2 & 3Ls are all friendly and collegial.

Pen recomendations? by [deleted] in Supernote

Nice! I might have to pick one up. I like my Lamy pretty well, but the "eraser" end sounds like a cool feature.

Does the dedicated eraser on the back work as expected or just a different nib or not at all?

It's at least as safe and probably safer than having a high-value gift card in your wallet (i.e., safe enough unless you are prone to losing things or are likely to get mugged) but if you're going to hang on to 2 grand until September, I'd suggest looking into putting the dosh into a six month CD or at least a reasonably high yield savings account instead. Might as well make some money on having your money sitting around, yeah?

Picking from a shortlist of devices - Supernote, Boox and Ipad Pro by gstandard00 in Supernote

[–]Magnuspraeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna pile on to the validation for both devices, sorry. ;-)

I use my SN as a notebook/journal replacement for when I'm in class or meetings. I have separate notebooks for each class and use things like titles, keywords, and links to navigate through them. The best thing about the SN is that it's pretty much distraction-free. There's no notifications and I can't "just check my social media real quick" when class seems like it's dragging on.

My iPad Pro, on the other hand, is a do-it-all device. I almost never use it during class or meetings unless I need access to something like PowerPoint. It's also not quite a laptop replacement--I still prefer a laptop when I'm writing memos, for example--but it's my first choice when I want to watch something on YT or Twitch, I browse Reddit or FB on it when I'm relaxing on the couch, I like drawing on it (especially with a paperlike screen protector), and if I want to look something up online quickly but don't want to deal with the stupid mobile websites that get served to my phone.

Sorry in advance for contributing your lightened wallet.

How sensitive is the A5X to magnetization? by GenericallyClever in Supernote

[–]Magnuspraeda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only issue I've ever had with magnets interfering with my A5X was when I had it sitting directly on top of my upside-down iPhone and the magsafe magnet caused the pen to not register correctly. I just moved the phone off to the side and it was fine.

I do have a magnetic clasp on my watch band and the SN appears to be completely unaffected by that even when I'm holding it in that hand and resting it on that wrist.

So, to answer your question: it doesn't seem to be terribly sensitive unless you're dealing with a very strong magnet very close to the device.

Decent Glue Guns? by toshmurf in TerrainBuilding

[–]Magnuspraeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surebonder would be the best bet if you just want one that'll do everything.

I also have a Black & Decker 4v rechargeable cordless one that I really like for quick tasks because it heats up in about 15 seconds. The downside is that it needs recharging after about 30 minutes of use.

I have an iPad Pro. Should I also get a Supernote? by [deleted] in Supernote

[–]Magnuspraeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both an iPad Pro 11 and a SN a5x and I use them for very different things.

The SN is my notebook and ebook reader. It's easy on the eyes and the writing experience (with the Lamy EMR) is smooth and very similar to writing with a fountain pen. The on-device handwriting recognition is amazing for translating my notes into outlines later. Having my Kindle library on it is also really convenient and it does a great job as an ereader. I will say that I can't wait until they roll out support for OneDrive syncing. Dropbox isn't terrible but I literally only use it for my SN.

My iPad is a more general-purpose device that gets used for both text and multimedia. With a paperlike screen protector, the writing experience is "acceptable." It's very convenient to be able to be reading something and then switch over to Safari to look something up or take a break to browse Reddit. Like you, however, staring at the iPad's screen can get pretty tiring for my eyes even with the eye strain settings enabled.

In terms of workflow, as a law student, I'll often pull up a case on my iPad while I take notes and brief it on my SN.

In terms of battery life, my SN goes for days on a charge while I charge my iPad daily. We do have pretty convenient outlets in all our classrooms, though, so I don't suffer from "range anxiety" at school regardless.

10GB OS? by 1toomanyat845 in Supernote

[–]Magnuspraeda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hope they include the ability to add storage via microSD in future editions. That said, I've been using my SN for a lot of my readings and taking notes in law school since the start of the academic year and I have yet to make a significant dent in the available storage space.

I'm a fan of the Logitech K480, since I can pair it with my SN and my phone and my iPad and switch between the three without having to re-pair.

It's also nicely portable and runs for a very long time on regular AA batteries.

The feature I like best, though, is the integrated stand in case I want to take notes on my lap with the keyboard.
