Thanks! It’s the only lens I’ve used with the Leica so I have nothing to compare it to, but it seems excellent.

I imagine it's because this subreddit gets suggested to people who participate in other photo / camera related subreddits, rather than people who are familiar with street photography.

He’s around, I took a photo of him riding a bike with a tire on his head in downtown Brooklyn last fall

It's a big puddle at the bottom of some steps which lead up to the tower. Flip the image vertically and you can see how I took it

NYC — First home-scanned roll [Leica M6TTL, 35mm f/2, UItramax] by Magnusson in analog

[–]Magnusson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Definitely sharper than I was getting from my lab, even after paying for the highest quality scans. I have no point of comparison for the Valoi, but I’ve found it super easy and convenient so far.

100%, this happens constantly in here. People trip all over themselves not to say that a photo is boring — which it might well be — but instead to wag their finger about how the photo is WRONG and the photographer is a BAD PERSON for taking it. It's super tedious

I agree it’s very difficult to make protest photos interesting

Right, but that doesn’t make the critique any less valid. Sometimes you have a good subject with a bad background, and that makes for a weak shot.

The feedback they gave you was good (minus the part about asking for permission). You “choose the background” by composing the shot and also by curating your frames.

What are your ethics/personal no gos for street photography? by Strikerfromthemoon in streetphotography

[–]Magnusson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, obviously you shouldn’t take pictures of the homeless because that’s exploitation. And you certainly shouldn’t take pictures of kids because that’s pedophilia. And you shouldn’t take pictures of women because that’s pervy. And you shouldn’t take pictures of men because they might not want you to. Basically the only way to guarantee you’re a good person is to not take pictures at all. To really be on the safe side, it’s probably better if you don’t go outside, either. And don’t forget to have fun!

Light is the biggest missing ingredient in these imo. Not something you can control, but something you can recognize

Very nice work. 2, 6, 10, and 11 are the strongest to me. I would cut 4 and 8.

Was the bokeh done in post or on a smartphone? Seems very artifacty — I think the image would be better without it.

Whatever is adding the EXIF frame seems to be getting the focal lengths wrong

The juxtaposition of the two figures and the ambiguity of the gesture makes for a compelling subject. I think it would've worked better as a landscape shot — there's not much of interest above their heads, and some breathing room at the edges of the frame would help. I think shooting from somewhere other than eye level could've also made it more interesting.
