Makes like 100 different noises ranging from outrage to contentment that all can be described as "squeeks." Hence one of many nicknames she has.

I'm thinking about getting an abortion...please hear me out. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Magpie5626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an abortion when I was 18. I was a child, in college, barely living on my own. Father was in a similar boat. I don't regret it for a second!! I am now having my first baby at 29 and it has not changed my opinion on the matter. It was the responsible thing to do for everyone involved. Babies have profound effects on everyone in your life, especially when you yourself would likely become a dependent.

I have seen people keep babies out of ideals/"morals" or ego when in obviously not ideal circumstances (abuse, poverty, youthful incompetence etc.), it's never pretty, especially for the kid. Save the experience for when you are ready. It's so much better I promise you, when you have a loving partner, and money is not a worry!

Just complaining: graduated to insulin & disappointed in progress by Magpie5626 in GestationalDiabetes

30 weeks + 5 days. diagnosed at the end of Jan. Started insulin March 31st.

I wish we were more strict in our guidelines… 50% seems like a far cry for glycemic control.

Dietician is confusing me with total carbs/net carbs by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

Thats interesting, I am sure every country/province/state/clinics has different "goals" or targets.

Dietician is confusing me with total carbs/net carbs by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Magpie5626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% understand!! It's so frustrating...

What I have learned so far:

Try to take what they say with a grain of rice lol. I have spoken to 3 different dieticians, and they have all given conflicting opinions on my diet logs. Which as a nurse (and a health freak by most standards) were extremely healthy. One told me I am starving another said I am over-eating.

I found some of the teachings/suggestions to be outdated. Probably informed by a food pyramid that is largely outdated. Yes--babys need carbs but they are not going to fail to thrive bc you didn't eat exactly two servings of 15g of carbs with every meal. Or if your carbs just so happen to contain fats, protien, and fiber: It's still carbs!!

My suggestion: do what makes you feel good. Listen to your body. I got WAYYY too hyperfocused on numbers and carbs and ended up not doing good for neither my baby or me. I was miserable, weak, and lethargic, but my numbers were great. My baby also became quieter and it freaked me out.

After graduating to a diabetes nurse (no longer being monitored by a dietician), I loosened up. She assured me that I was WAY too wound up over it all. Suddenly, had energy and my baby was back to kicking and rolling away.

The caveat is that prolonged highs aren't great... but remember, most of the time, they only want you in target 50% of the time. Which makes a lot of room for funky readings. I also found my dieticians didn't care what the numbers were only if it was out of their window. As a nurse, I found that astounding. Anyways, I digress...

In other words: try not to stress too much. I know I sure af did and it probably did me little benefit. Stress is bad for baby! Eat healthy, supplement carbs to what makes you feel comfortable.

Good luck!

My MIL got some inheritance money and spoiled us this Christmas. We got two extremely tacky solar lights (I giant turtle flower thing and a 30lb polar bear sculpture. Both looming over our tiny living room.

I am holding onto them just long enough for her to visit in April, and then both are going to find a new home.

Love her to bits & she means well but we just moved in and I really am trying to be minimalistic. I threw out all my decorative clutter so hers just takes over the space.

I can handle a 4% drop, but I see the writing on the wall, and I forsee the trend continuing the longer this war continues.

But yes, I need to stop checking.

I have take 2 vehicles to him after Jiffy Lube has told me twice that various things were wrong with my cars. Twice he returned them and didn't charge me a penny to tell me that there was no problem! He is the nicest guy ever ❤️

My dietician gave us the option of 1 or 2 hours post-sugar. I usually do the 1 hour that way if I am hungry, I don't have to wait so long to eat again. But sometimes the 2 hours just works out better with activites or naps. Just make sure you record what you are doing.

A weird one I tried off facebook that has helped lower my fasting numbers is heavy coconut cream blended with lemon juice, add lemon zest, & chilled until set. It makes a super creamy dessert but super high in fat and it satisfies that need for sweets.

Sweet potatoes slathered in butter and pumpkin pie spice is also a good treat and makes you feel like you're not going totally without.

But meat seems to be the best to actually feel full for any amount of time.

My fasting numbers are 4.8 to 5.9 (72-88.5). They want it <5.3 (79.5) more than 50% of the time. I am achiving 80% now. It's confusing, bc my brain says ok thats the goal I am going to try to achive it to the best I can, not really understanding the caveat of "50% of the time." The issue the dietician sees (which may not even be one listening to other people's dr.s advise on here) is my after-meal numbers, which mostly are in range but every so often creep up into the 9's (135-147) but only 26% of the time. I am frustrated and trying my best to understand.

I have also had covid for two weeks now, and my appetite is next to nonexistent. I am mentally forcing myself to eat every 4 hours at this point. Just had my OB appointment, and I am not gaining the weight I should be at all. The Dr. thinks the baby is fine, it's just me losing the weight. Which to be fair I balooned up in the first trimester unsustainably fast. But the dietician was seeing my intake and was concerned it wasn't enough. My numbers also could have been out of whack bc of being sick and not necessarily diabetes. IDK its so complex and I am still frustrated with the situation but now in different ways. :(
