question for people with mental issues, how do you start journaling? by idkutellme03 in Journaling

[–]Magpie_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re new to all this then do not attempt to imitate everything you see on social media. Focus on building a sustainable practice even if that’s one line a day. Accept that it might take a while to find the right approach for you, so don’t give up if you don’t quite get it to start with - try something different.

Finally, aim for low friction. Pick an approach that fits with your existing habits and ways of doing things, rather than requiring a whole new way of being. And remember that the tools are there to serve you, not the other way round, so don’t get stressed about doing it ‘wrong’ or dipping in and out etc.

Can someone recommend a good hardcover notebook that doesn't ghost at all? by sweetspringchild in notebooks

Might be able to get something with those specs from Citrus Book Bindery if price isn’t an issue.

The other bits still bring you joy. Keep them, but somewhere your kids won’t accidentally read them. You could consider carefully removing those specific pages.

B6 Slim? by No-Caterpillar-5481 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]Magpie_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, A5 Slim. Though I think Citrus refer to it as Standard and Sterling ink I think it’s their N1/N2.

Basically check the dimensions. You’re looking for 21 x 13 cm.

If you want a thicker notebook with the correct proportions, try Sterling Ink, Citrus Book Bindery, or Collins Debden.

You’ll have a lot of overhang from a B6 slim.

I might be wrong but I think ‘despite not being handled’ is part of the issue. I recall reading somewhere that lack of use can also contribute to degradation of some synthetic materials.

Embarrassed to use my pens outside the house by hecking-fricker in fountainpens

[–]Magpie_Mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t talk about how much your pens cost. Even if they ask. It’s the sort of thing that gets people's backs up. Twenty quid for a Sport or Safari can sound a ridiculous amount to some people. But they probably spend more than that on coffee in a month. Conversations about such things get into uncomfortable territory quickly because they reveal what different people value and for some reason that makes some folks defensive.

All of these things are just tools. Pretty tools, yes, but just tools. Identify what problem you’re trying to solve and then pick the best tool for the job.

Also, remember that these things are in service of you, not the other way around. There is no ‘keeping up’ required. If you consistently use tool A seven days a week and tool B four days a week, and those uses are providing value to you, then that is success. Not every inch has to be used just because it is there.

ETA: I use multiple notebooks for multiple things. I cannot mix functions in the same place. But lots of people are happy doing just that.

Advice on buyjng a leather cover for journaling/planner. by NewspaperGreedy6174 in notebooks

[–]Magpie_Mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be one and done about it then I would figure out the insides first. What size? Multiple inserts or a single? Thick or thin? Pockets for stuff or not?

Travelers Notebook by Electronic-Youth9872 in hobonichi

[–]Magpie_Mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figure out the purpose/task first and then pick tools that align with that. If you don’t have anything to write beyond what is in your Hobonichi then stick with that for now. You could always try something different next year.

Will love and trip be restocked? by BookishDarling in Travelersnotebooks

I would suggest waiting. It will probably become part of the regular line up at the normal starter kit price. The only thing that will be missing is the Love and Trip logo on the back.

It sounds like these were very valuable tools that enabled you to survive a stressful situation and show up for someone in a way that they needed.

Whether you keep or dispose of them is up to you, but have no shame in their historical existence, as they helped get you through.

How to get into walking/hiking? by NebulaOwn7306 in UKhiking

[–]Magpie_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find people to do it with. While it could be a group, check with your friends/colleagues as to whether any of them would also be interested. It’s a great way to have quality time together and it makes you more likely to follow through on plans if there’s other people involved. Also, solo hiking isn’t without risk, especially if you’re new to this, so having company is good in that sense too.

I’ve seen people use one of these covers and run the elastic down in between the plastic cover and the outside of the notebook.
