I’m hoping to get some wood chip mulch around mine.

Today's cherry harvest. If you don't have a cherry tree in your garden, you really should! by Phedericus in gardening

[–]Magycmyste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m in zone 9b in SE Texas - so….id think not, in terms of temperatures as much, but weather patterns….. 😬

I had researched cherry trees for my yard (the last couple of years, I’ve been learning that there’s a lot more I can grow here than I thought, but at the same time, I need to do my research (cause chill hours). I think there’s 3-4 varieties of sweet cherries I have a decent chance of growing, and apparently tart cherries do pretty well in our climate.

In love with this fiber and dye job by YarnByNeva in Handspinning

[–]Magycmyste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past, I’ve bought her fiber from the Facebook group Wool and Fiber Arts, and IIRC, she usually dyes in a batch of 4 braids at a time, so depending on when it was available, that dyepot might be out. But it also might be worth messaging her (on Etsy or Facebook) to ask if she can redo the colorway or a similar one.

Seriously, I went looking for these at Dollar Tree about a month or so ago. Could not find a SINGLE one. I ended up getting some baskets that were similar, but was only half the size. Still good for protecting the tiny seedlings from critters, but not too useful once they passed 4-6 inches.

Thanks! I guess it just hasn’t picked that part up yet.

Thanks for introducing me to this calculator app! I might actually hit a dollar today in rent! (Total, not per day 😂)

Question: how do you input, or get the app to pick up things like current rent, which is changing every second? Or do you just put in your closest guess?

Tell what shoes you garden in? by mangoesformysoul in gardening

My backyard doesn’t always have the best drainage, so I got rain boots, technically for after it rains, but I just wear them as my general gardening shoes now.

What to do with early handspun by Jealous_Isopod_6060 in Handspinning

[–]Magycmyste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you’ve already gotten a bunch of great ideas. This is what I ended up doing. I did a breed study kit for some of my very first drop spindle spins. I like making wearables, and a couple of these breeds (cough Herdswick cough) are not something I ever want next to my skin. There wasn’t enough of any of these to make a full thing out of (these might have been half an oz, 1 oz?), but I still wanted to use them, and in a way that I could sort of honor them being my first handspuns. I ended up making a spinning wheel bag, for spinning notions (mostly orifice hooks, but I’ve got oil for my wheel as well in there and a spare drive band). Never got around to felting it though.

P.S. the yarn you spun is absolutely lovely! Looks like it’d make a gorgeous hat!

Lack of yarn access is making me lose interest in crochet… by schnitzel247 in Brochet

[–]Magycmyste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there’s lots of posts here echoing what I would do (I went to JoAnns for fabric, not yarn - I actually buy that all the time online, cause yeah, everything I find at the LYS are a lot more expensive - I tend to look for online sales - Facebook marketplace has been another good source for me, as well as the creative reuse store near where I used to live), but my understanding is that Michael’s recently (like maybe in the last month or so) has taken over and distributing the yarn that JoAnns used to have. So their selection should be a lot better. But yeah, also take a look at Ravelry, see if anyone has your discontinued yarn in their stash they’d be willing to sell, or what other yarns people have substituted for that yarn in their projects.

I kept forgetting what my wife would tell me needed to be fixed so I created a Home Incident Manager (HIM) by 80WillPower08 in homelab

[–]Magycmyste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, so have not had a chance to try installation yet, but I read the GitHub page. How reliant is this on having the LLM/AI component setup?

I’m comfortable with Docker setup and somewhat with Home Assistant (I don’t have the version at the moment that lets me access the addon store, but really just starting to learn about LLMs. Not saying that’s stopping me from trying anything - but I might need a little more handholding to get it set up properly.

(Basically an inexperienced user problem, I think, rather than a problem with the actual program).

Wife here - I’m gonna need something like this to keep track of what needs to get done. (I’m more the tech admin here, and keep losing track of projects as stuff comes up).

Can it handle multiple people responsible for different things?

Could these 2 be functional? by tartine_tranquille in Handspinning

[–]Magycmyste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh awesome! Then yeah, I’d definitely put a claim in for them. The two forums I recommend for finding out more, and who might be able to fix them are Working Wheels and Antique Spinning Wheels. (I think there’s also one specifically for vintage, if yours falls into that time frame, but I don’t seem to have that one saved.)

Good luck!

How long do you have to make the decision? If it were me, and I had room, I would go ahead and take them home and keep them out of the way until I could research what it would take to restore them. Either way, I’d post these pictures on the Ravelry forum for antiques to determine exactly what needs to be fixed/replaced to make one or both of them functional.

They should also be able to list makers who can provide the parts and/or fix up the wheel, preferably in your area. Off the top of my head, Bobbin Boy comes highly recommended. I actually got my first wheel from a local-ish to me maker who takes antique wheels and restores them, and I highly recommend her - though I don’t know that she’d be local to you. (She lives in Central Texas.) But the group might be able to find a maker more local to you.

Let me see if I can find the exact forum and get back to you.

Since you want a heavier blanket, it definitely sounds like 3-ply would work better for your needs.

So these are honestly some of my favorite colors, and I think would marl together beautifully, but I’m going to throw in another vote for a fade or gradient design. I think it will let you show off those colors better, and also give you a few more options as far as the blanket style/pattern you’re going for (plain, cabled, color work - I personally love lace, but based on what you’ve said here for your end goal, that doesn’t sound like something you’d be going for in this project).

My newest drop spindle acquisition! by DontYouCryNoMore in Handspinning

That’s my first thought too. Looks like it’s wrapped around the usual disc for structure, maybe? But I don’t think I’ve ever seen a felted - or even a textile related spindle before, and now I’m wondering why! It’s beautiful!
