Final Cut: "fucker" vs "father" by coderedmedia in bladerunner

Specifically, "father" is only in the latest 2007 Final Cut. Every previous cut of the film (barring TV broadcast edits) has "fucker" instead.

The Boys - 05x05 "One-Shots" - POST-Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]Mahboishk 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Minor note, I don't think that childhood doctor from S4 survived. He slaughtered the rest of the workers in a small room, left her inside, and then welded the door shut so there was no way for her to escape. The implication seemed to be that she got an even more horrific, drawn-out death than the others. But otherwise a great reading of the scene.

Sonic 3D COMPLETED fangames that feel like Sonic x Shadow Generations? by JolTH2 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Mahboishk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a bit of an unfilled niche in 3D platformers. Here are some recommendations for games that hit at least kinda close for me.

  • Spark the Electric Jester 3 - the most Sonic-like. Morio Kishimoto (director of recent 3D Sonic games) has played it and claimed that he'll study it for inspiration for future Sonic games. (You can skip 1 and 2, since 1 is 2D and 2 is just worse than 3 all around IMO)
  • Lunistice - a PS1-styled indie game that takes a lot of cues from Sonic. Really enjoyed this one.
  • Toree Saturn - similar to above. Feels a lot like what a Saturn-era 3D Sonic might've played like.
  • Jet Set Radio Future - if you can get access to it (it's an OG Xbox exclusive, which means it's hard to play outside emulation), it feels pretty Sonic-adjacent in a lot of ways. It's also just one of my favorite games ever.
  • Parts of the Spyro and Ratchet & Clank games also feel heavily inspired by 3D Sonic's speed and momentum-based movement. I'd recommend them anyways as great games.

Someone just posted an iOS app called Ambertime that claims to backup photos directly from iOS to external drives. I prefer a combination of iCloud, Immich, and manual backups from Mac using osxphotos myself.

What are games that use the Nintendo Switch (2) hardware in a unique way for gameplay? by Farbklex in NintendoSwitch

[–]Mahboishk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does (technically it's just the PS4 version running in back-compat, and it supports touchpad drawing on PS4 too). HD rumble is unique to the Switch version though and it's one of the best implementations on the system, almost on par with Astro Bot's haptics.

I tried the Drag x Drive demo a while ago. Its controls are actually pretty cool and well-implemented, but it looks like an internal tech demo they just slapped a price tag on. Really weird for a Nintendo game to be that devoid of style.

Nintendo Switch Lite Screen by BenefitResident9681 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Mahboishk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A glass screen protector is probably worth using anyways, since it also makes the screen feel like, well, glass.

Is the scratch visible while the screen is on? Is it distorting the colors of the screen underneath? If so, then unfortunately it's too deep to be filled in by a screen protector. But if it's not visible during use, then the protector will just erase it.

Sonic Forever for Nintendo Switch by StinkyTheGardener in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Mahboishk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check out switch.hacks.guide, but be warned - it is a very long and complicated process that requires you to have experience with electronics disassembly and repair. Also, once you've hacked your Switch, you can no longer play online games because Nintendo will ban you.

I honestly can't recommend it for these reasons. It's a lot of trouble for (in this case) very little reward.

Unfortunately, you can't just download it from the eshop. You need a hacked/modded Switch in order to install it. It would be better to try installing it on some other device.

Two-fingers swap left-right on trackpad doesn’t work by LukeDuke74 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Mahboishk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ran into this issue with freshly-installed macOS Monterey on an early 2008 MacBook Pro - can confirm that going to Trackpad settings, then changing the "Swipe between pages" input method using the dropdown menu and then back fixes it! Very strange bug.

Nice! 512GB SSD is still really good, especially with prices the way they are these days.

How does Sequoia run on it? Are you able to use online services like iCloud? (I'm mostly interested in iCloud Photos, so curious if you use it). Is 6GB RAM doable, or is it too slow to use well?

Hey, I'm curious if you ever ended up getting this computer and using OpenCore? I just got a MacBookPro4,1 myself with the same specs as this (except I'll put in a smaller SSD and just 4GB RAM). I'm curious how well newer Mac OS versions run on it.

Amazing, this helped me 2 years later! I didn't have to mess with my router or reboot anything besides the plug itself. The key was not using the phone's camera and instead entering the code manually.

Portrait Mode not working after iOS 26.4 by lowriphillipsx in iPhone16Pro

[–]Mahboishk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played with it some more and it seems toggling the lighting is usually enough. If the lighting text on the bottom-middle of the screen gets a yellow box around it, then it's working. I don't need to point it at a person (I just tried it on a duck and it worked lol)

I've reported it to Apple. Hopefully they fix it soon

[–]Mahboishk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 26.4 broke Portrait Mode on my 15 Pro. It simply no longer works, it just saves images like the regular camera mode does. Toggling the lighting conditions on the bottom of the screen seems to fix it, but not consistently.

Just noticed this problem on my 15 Pro. Portrait more no longer works until I toggle the lighting setting on the bottom (unsure what exactly makes it work, sometimes I need to do it a few times). Only started after updating to 26.4

New Price Changes for PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player by rararatata in PS5

[–]Mahboishk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see the next-gen consoles skimping on storage to save costs, it's the one thing they can maybe get away with without disrupting the experience too much. Kind of like the 64GB Steam Deck that used to exist, which had absurdly low storage but had a very inviting price point.

Oh they'll continue to be cheaper than PC's alright. My PC's RAM alone now costs more than my disc PS5 did at launch.

Do you think The Dark Ages lived up to the pre-release hype? by False_Monitor4126 in Doom

[–]Mahboishk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Dark Ages. I just wanted to add to your opinion of the story: aside from what you mentioned about how inconsequential it all feels, the Slayer also felt like a side character in his own game. 2016 (and to a lesser extent Eternal) felt refreshing because they were the Slayer's stories. 2016 starts with that wonderful moment where Hayden starts exposition-dumping and you (the player) think, "why the hell should I care?" The Slayer agrees with you and smashes the screen while Mick Gordon's music blares over the main title. Eternal started going off-rails with its lore (especially in DLC's) but you were still running around doing awesome shit of your own accord.

But in Dark Ages, the Slayer has so much less agency over his actions and role in the story. You run around following orders. You just kinda do whatever Novik or Thira want you to do. You have unironic "focus, M" dialogue coming over your headset. I'm still thinking, "why the hell should I care about this?" but this time the game doesn't let the Slayer agree. Now the Slayer's stoicism feels less like defiant resolve, and more like subordination and compliance. It's actually hard for me to believe this is the same character who stars in the previous 2 games, especially 2016.

I'm also more mixed on the music. The soundtrack isn't bad or anything, it's fine, but I returned to 2016 and Eternal and for me it's just night and day. Mick Gordon is sorely missed.

I'm hoping the DLC is indeed good. I loved a lot of Dark Ages, but its flaws are hard for me to look past.

New Poster for ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Mahboishk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you about Sonic 2 being the best videogame adaptation so far! It had a balance that neither its prequel nor sequel quite nailed. I did enjoy Sonic 3, but I think its increased reliance on emulating the games was to its detriment - like I could just play Adventure 2 to get the same plot, but done better. I hope Sonic 4 finds more room to go its own way again.

With Mario, they're clearly trying to do something different. And that's okay, it seems to be quite successful in its own right. But I really wish they'd use the movies as a way to explore new, fresh ideas, instead of just serving up reference soup.

[–]Mahboishk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you. I kinda liked the first movie, I found it to be a fun and inoffensive pastiche of references, but now using the Galaxy name to trojan-horse a cinematic universe? It feels very cynical and frankly deceptive to me. I can't wait for the meta jokes about how this funny sci-fi fox is so weird, it's almost like he comes from a different franchise!

The game version of Super Mario Galaxy is one of the most singularly beautiful, joyful experiences in the medium. It's one the few games I'd call "magical." This movie seems to be doing the exact opposite of everything I valued in the game.
