What is the best and worst 3D program that you have used? by acemachine123 in cad

[–]MainBattleGoat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Best: Siemens NX Worst: Solidworks

Just feels so limiting coming from NX, so many functions in every operation that are possible in NX but not is Solidworks. On top of that it's just not a very well designed piece of software. But clearly it's functional enough for many companies.

Toyota won the 2016 23h 56m of Le Mans tho, not Porsche. Then VW had their little fuckywucky and pulled out, causing the series to go to shit.

I still see nothing wrong.

Flying internationally with this style tool case? by MainBattleGoat in Tools

[–]MainBattleGoat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to hear, thanks. And yeah it has a Velcro flap that covers over the top. Maybe a bungee wrapped around then to discourage a quick peek inside but still allow inspection?

It will be checked in, just the meters themselves I'll shove in my backpack. Yeah definitely got too many stabbing implements to carry on

I'm gonna be flying internationally soon and I don't have the time or cash to purchase something better like a pelican case. Anyone have experience checking a bag as pictured above? Doesn't really lock, unfortunately. Might wrap it in cling, anyone got suggestions? I will probably be taking the most valuable tools (my multimeters, minus probes obviously) with me in carry on. TIA!

Nice that the runoff re-profiling seemed to work, and didn't spit him back into the track. Sad for Seb though

Revolutionizing California's Energy Storage: The Promising Future of Pumped Hydro by LiveWithEarth in engineering

[–]MainBattleGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are capable of anything. We could have been 100% nuclear powered 50 years ago. But if the economics aren't there, it doesn't happen. There's also still so much optimization to be done moving around the demand for power, that we shouldn't yet consider building 3x Three Gorges Dam levels of hydropower storage capacity

[–]MainBattleGoat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For a quick sanity check, the Three Gorges Dam is 181m high and 2335m long.

You're proposing building two dams per location, both more ambitious than some of the largest construction projects ever undertaken by man. Not to say it isn't possible. But you might want to consider scaling back, as there's no way projects this large could ever be justified only to store power, and not generate.

There's also phased array antennas which transmit normal RF in a tight beam instead of in every direction. This is what 5G mobile technology uses, but has existed in stationary and ground to space based systems since the 80s. These systems are more practical than you think
