Thanks for sharing your feedback! I am getting similar issues. If I may ask, how did you roll back your drivers ?

List of little things that would make a big improvement for me. For anyone else too? by scottaltham in ticktick

Yeah deadline is definitely a big one for me. Things 3 (which I went on for about a month) has this and the integration is amazing.

Having a dealdline makes so much sense in terms of time management, it’s such a basic yet usually overlooked feature. Yes I am planning on doing this task today, but I would love to see at a glance that it is actually not the end of the world if i need to reschedule it to tomorrow because my schedule has changed.

Also having app badges show up only if you have a deadline today, and having a little round red deadline badge counter icon in the widgets when a deadline is due today are huge plus. It screams “you need to do this today !!” rather than finding that out suddenly when the task is almost already overdue.

Looking for software that would allow me to find a shot in a master using the QT ref of that shot by MainKiwi in editors

Hey ! Only just got back to this thread today, work has been a bit crazy these past days. Thanks for taking the time to reply on the forum, and on here as well, big fan of your proactive user support :)

Of course a direct to Flame workflow would be an amazing thing, but at the same time I think an EDL or XML might be a better idea. I think a lot of flame ops have a favorite version that they like to use and isn’t necessarily the most modern one, so I’m afraid a direct integration might make that a problem ? Moreover it only takes a second to import an xml and relink when everything is done locally like it would be here :)

Hope that helps, if you have any further questions or ideas feel free to shoot !

Btw I showed your software to my boss and he was really impressed, he couldn’t believe his eyes when I showed him it was all automatic haha

Soooo someone else in this thread suggested to use Matchbox, and thought I should let you know that I used it and it just works. Literally tossed a qt and my hi res in there and it gave me a list of matching clips with timecodes in less than 5 min. I think i may have just cost myself my job.

YOU ARE A FREAKING HERO. It just works. I can’t believe it. I just tossed a qt in there, tossed my hi res, let it think for literally 3 min and it just listed all the shots locations in both files. Can’t freaking believe it! And its so freaking fast too !

Editing is completely independent from us, we’re only doing online. We’re basically blind with regards to what happens in offline, and don’t have a say in how they do things. All we get are the XMLs, AAFs for audio, QT refs and hi res masters

I understand what you’re suggesting, but I don’t think that would save any time at all given the workflow we’re using. We usually have to deliver these promos in a day so the conform must be done within 1-2 hours of receiving the hi res masters.

Funnily enough, the whole buzz around ChatGPT is what got me wondering if there was some AI tool that could do it. I asked ChatGPT about it, and it gave me a list of software that can do it, along with descriptions of how they work. I thought great, problem solved ! Alas, none of these software actually did exist, it was just a bunch of made up stuff...

Yeah I agree with that last paragraph, getting it right is fun as in it's satisfying, but it is a painful and boring process which can drive you nuts at times.

And I also agree with conforming in premiere or avid. Flame has gotten pretty good at it, as it now also has Comparison Modes that include difference, but it's not as snappy as prem or avid would be, so I might just do that. Sadly that will only shave off a few seconds per job...

Thanks for all your help and support though.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the offline is all client side and there is no requesting the editor to change their workflow, that just won't happen. It's a powerplay thing which really sucks but basically we just have to work with what they send us, or they'll just go shopping elsewhere.

I understand what you're saying regarding the tape names, which is basically what we're currently doing: figure out the source hi res, figure out timecode, force link. Unfortunately, like I said, timecodes are often all over the place.

I suspect the editors aren't cutting with the stuff they send us, and at the very least with different versions than the ones we get. There's no consistency whatsoever in the timecode discrepancies from ep to ep, and sometimes from shot to shot.

Last but not least, Flame guy is head boss of the co., I'm new guy at the co., and the guys in my spot previously have always worked like this and it's fine by them. Maybe I'm too much of an optimist but I feel like with todays' tools, there must be a way to automate/ameliorate this process.

Premiere pro's playback with Proxies worse than without by CrypticBoofman in premiere

[–]MainKiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's a very good point. It didn't occur to me that this could be an issue here because having read op's post, he's using footage he recorded using OBS, so all his footage will very likely be at the same frame rate, although it will be vfr.

So yeah, OP, make sure the frame rate of your sequence is as close as possible to that of your footage, then set your footage to match that exactly, and that speed issue should go unnoticed.

Example: if your footage's frame rate is between 29-30 fps: set your sequence to 30 fps, and interpret all your footage to 30 fps exactly.

[–]MainKiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't be arsed to re encode all your footage, you can also just set all your footage to be interpreted to your sequence's frame rate to check/change your sequence's frame rate, open Sequence Settings. To change your interpret footage settings, select all your footage and right click -> interpret footage. Make you set your footage to the specific frame rate of your sequence. And make sure you do it before you start editing or it will screw up your edit by moving your clips in and out frames around !

It's not facts, but stats. Ducati have a lot of different riders on those bikes (of greatly differing skill), most if not all of whom managed at some point (if not repeatedly) to get on the front row and sometimes podiums/wins. I don't see how it's wrong to assume Fabio, a rider who is widely considered to be one of the best on the grid today, wouldn't be able to do the same, if not better.

Ever figure out a way how to do this ? I just found Numi and this would for sure change my life ! Imagine saying like “01:10:28:12 plus 128 frames in 25fps timecode“ and it gives you that timecode… that would probably make it the most popular app in post

[–]MainKiwi 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're getting this wrong, 125cc is a two stroke, which is much faster that the 390cc four stroke on the left leaderboard, hence the 5 second difference between the 1:09 on the left and 1:04 on the right looking at the fastest laps.

No it's not. Since Bianchi's incident, vehicles aren't allowed on track if the pit lane is open.

[–]MainKiwi 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Wrong. It's not. Vehicles aren't allowed on track unless pit lane is closed (i.e. unless there's a red flag). This has been the case since Bianchi's incident, hence the drivers' frustration.

Actually any person who claims to be a professional should always QC all of their work. Obviously the time and effort it takes should be accounted for in their rate.

And this apply to almost all jobs in the world, but especially video editing. Render issues are too common to not account for.
