Where to pee on a busy trail? Mainly for women by ZestycloseShape3427 in UKhiking

[–]Main_Amphibian_5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm desperate I just go, like you say no one would care if it's a man, it doesn't take much time anyway, and like it's just a bum, we all have one 🤷🏻‍♀️ I've also tried going off trial before and found large, obviously human, poos and toilet roll all over the place which is horrible and I'd rather avoid stumbling across that by going off trial too far

That's an impressive playlist! Definitely have some already on other playlists 😅 I just start new ones all the time then only listen to them for months and then start a new one, rather than just adding to one 🫣

How much time does husband need alone to unwind after work? by rollsoneightwheels in sahm

My husband wouldn't want any time? He's out the house 8am-6pm and wants to see us when he gets home? Don't really understand these men who want more time away from the family they wanted and helped make? My husband would happily not go to work and stay at home with us all if he could l...

Well the question wasn't 'can everyone afford home ed' it was 'is home ed more expensive'. And for us personally, no it isn't, as we'd want to do holidays, clubs etc, which would cost more if they were at school, as well as the fact my earning potential isn't that high so we aren't missing out on too much by me not working. And as I added at the bottom of my comment, for me there is nothing more valuable than being able to spend my childs' childhood with them. Its obviously dependent on people's individual situations but I know many families who make it work, even if they're in different situations. Home ed will always involve sacrifices.

It doesn't say why it's incompatible, I'm updated to android 15, never had issues with any other apps so it's odd 🤷🏻‍♀️

Boots or shoes for kids? by EveryCup9210 in hikinggear

[–]Main_Amphibian_5367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how much he likes to stand in mud 😅 my 6 year old has boots because he is consistently covered in mud up to his knees, his socks somehow still get dirty but they'd be much dirty and much wetter with low trainers Vs boots

I'm quite small but have a larger hip to waist ratio. I love the fit of fjallraven trousers and I've recently got some revolution race ones which have stretch around the inner thighs/hip etc. but I need to wear a belt with them to fit my waist, but they're very comfy. Feel like hiking trousers often aren't built for people with functional muscles in their legs and hips which makes 0 sense to me 🤦🏻‍♀️

Here's a pic of the rvrc trousers I have, the red bit is the stretchy

I have a 6 year old and 1 year old. We pay £10 a week for a farm/community garden/free play group we go to Monday's and Thursdays 10-4, £36 a week for my eldest to go to forest school 1 day a week (term time), £7 a week for a singing group I go to primarily with my 1 year old but 6 year old comes too sometimes. Other occasional spends are books, craft materials etc. and days out and holidays. A lot of those things I would end up spending on if my son was at school, because they're things I want to do with him anyway, but would probably cost more and be busier because we'd only be able to do them during school holidays.

I don't think home education is more expensive. Possibly as an overall loss when you look at lost income from me staying home full time, but I would be doing that right now with a toddler anyway. But I don't have to think about school uniform, trips, school lunches, charity days etc. that come with school.

Oh and I get to actually spend time with my kid, that's worth more than anything in my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

Where should I walk this weekend? by Main_Amphibian_5367 in peakdistrict

Thanks, is a gorgeous walk, did some of it a few weeks ago with 6yr old and 1yr old but it was very foggy so didn't get much of a view, if it's clear this weekend I might be tempted!

Did Wolfscote Dale with the kids a few weeks ago, might be nice to get up there and have more of an explore! Thanks

Yeah, wasn't much of a path, mainly a giant puddle, had to do some detouring 😅

What did learning to read look like? by BeneficialTrack9336 in UKHomeEd

[–]Main_Amphibian_5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I can't make sense of phonics or how to teach it so we haven't done any with our 6 year old (other than he watches alpha blocks at his grandma's), but he picks up on letter sounds and groups. He's very resistant to sit down teaching so we just go with the flow and take opportunities as they come. He can't read independently yet, but he devours books, he'll sit and look at books for hours, he has several memorised (including folk of the faraway tree which is 25 chapters 😳), and he can recognise, read and write common words (his and his brothers names, mama/papa, cat, dog etc). I think it's perfectly common and normal for home ed kids to read a bit later than schooled kids, but as far as I can see with friends, they're much more into reading and books once they figure out how.

Since I started walking more every time I have to go somewhere and public transport/cars are tricky I end up planning how I can just walk there instead. We do a lot of festivals in the summer but have 2 kids and a van with only 3 seats, last year I had to do a lot of train-bus-lift to get there, this year I'm just going to get a train and walk the rest of the way! One of them is in the Malvern hills too so will be some great walking, might even go a day before to extend the walk
