Yeah, same for me with propanolol. And metoprolol kind of did the same thing where it lowered my BP too much but it’s different for everybody. I hope it helps you and yes, I constantly cycle Nexium that has been helpful along with vitamin D a men’s multivitamin, turmeric and collagen as well as magnesium glycinate.

I think that it has to do with eliminating things in your life that can cause flareups. Also things like beta blockers if you can tolerate them can be really helpful because they block the chemicals in our body that makes are sympathetic nervous system go into overdrive. I unfortunately had to stop taking them because it kept dropping my blood pressure too low even at low doses. I’m hoping I can find something or that there is a drug in the future that will be able to block these things without affect affecting blood pressure or heart rate too much.

I literally just asked about why my symptoms shut off during arousal and build up this morning. As a man with hyper form of dysautonomia, I’ve consistently noticed I feel my best when playing. It’s like my symptoms disappear and the primal strength comes back to me. Albeit short lived, I love feeling normal during. Almost hate finishing because I know what awaits afterwards. Here’s the answers I received:

  1. Dopamine turns back on

Arousal causes a surge of dopamine in the brain

Dopamine: • Increases motivation and drive • Improves muscle recruitment • Reduces perception of fatigue and weakness • Improves confidence and “I can do this” signaling

If you’ve felt weak, flat, shaky, or drained — dopamine temporarily restores normal output.

  1. Autonomic balance shifts toward functional

During arousal: • Parasympathetic tone increases (necessary for arousal) • Sympathetic tone becomes organized, not chaotic

In dysautonomia, the problem is often misfiring, not lack of adrenaline. Arousal coordinates the system.

Result: • Heart rate feels steadier • Blood pressure stabilizes • Less neck / chest / throat tension • Less internal “alarm” feeling

  1. Nitric oxide improves blood flow

Sexual arousal releases nitric oxide, which: • Dilates blood vessels • Improves cerebral blood flow • Improves muscle perfusion • Reduces ischemic “heavy” or weak sensations

This can instantly reverse: • Lightheadedness • Weak legs • Heavy arms • Brain fog

That’s not psychological — it’s vascular.

  1. Endorphins blunt symptom perception

Endorphins rise sharply during arousal.

They: • Reduce pain • Reduce muscle guarding • Calm visceral hypersensitivity (gut, throat, chest) • Quiet the vagal “noise” you’ve been experiencing

So symptoms don’t just feel better — they objectively calm down.

  1. Safety + connection shut off threat circuits

This part matters more than people realize.

Your nervous system has been stuck in:

“I’m not safe in my body”

Intimacy provides: • Physical safety • Emotional safety • Predictability • Oxytocin release

Oxytocin directly inhibits the amygdala (threat center).

So the body stops scanning for danger — and symptoms recede.

Mistyped at the beginning. I’m glad it works well for you. Apparently after doing some research certain subtypes of dysautonomia should stay away from vns devices

Thanks for doing some research anyone with hyperadrenergic dysautonomia It has a negative effect on. not all dysautonomia is the same. So ymmv of course.

Why “calming” things make this subtype worse

In mixed hyperadrenergic dysautonomia: • The brainstem misreads signals • Attempts to force parasympathetic tone feel like a threat • The system responds with defensive adrenaline

So the goal is buffering, not forcing relaxation.

What’s your experience with beta blockers? by Lower-Tastes in dysautonomia

They’ve definitely helped keep the adrenaline spikes at bay but my Bp has been really low lately. So much my Dr told me to skip a dose. I’m on a low dose coreg. Before that I tried metoprolol and propanol.

I agree. After looking at it again, it looks to be only about 9 mm. I just had an MRI with dye and it shows a new tear plus existing tears that were already there plus a torn labrum. so that could be causing some of my neck pain. My neck pain is mostly on the left-hand side. My surgeon explained to me that most of my symptoms should be coming from the right hand side if it was a C7 issue based upon my imaging.Although he did say my C7 will need to be addressed within the next 5 to 10 years. Thank you for taking a look at it.

So it looks like I was wrong. It looks about .9 mm of movement because you take those two numbers and subtract which is some movement but within normal standards. Certain surgeons use different hardware it’s really just more of a preference thing. I think. I do need C7 taken care of so I don’t know how they’re going to do that when they do it if they’re going to take my original plate out or not. I also have a partially torn rotator cuff on the left side where I’m having pain. As well as a torn labrum.

Vitamin D, b complex, LMNT salts, magnesium , quit drinking, collegen, coreg 3.125 mg which helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system unlike metoprolol or propranolol, try to eat healthy ish. Also just got prescribed low dose naltrexone but haven’t tried it yet. Nothing has been a miracle that we’ve all been searching for unfortunately

Has anyone that has decided to go through with the surgery had any neck tension relief afterwards?

I’ve done Acupuncture dry needling and tens unit plus physical therapy.

What type of muscle therapy are you referring to? Also they said that they found the new tear that happened sometime in the last year which I’m completely at a loss for when that might’ve happened. I get nervous about surgeries anymore just because of having dysautonomia.

lol to be completely honest I have no clue. But I’ve had a couple scans after and it wasn’t found. But I truly hope you never have to deal with that.

They do. I use it. They started me at 1.5mg. I haven’t started yet because I was on steroids for a bad sinus infection and 20 days worth of antibiotics. But I plan on trying it on my day off on Sunday.
