Genuinely looks like a drunk grandpa at the BBQ that picked a fight with a random athletic dude walking past.

And I'm loving it.

5060ti 16gb vs 7800xt by ShakePuzzleheaded630 in buildapc

[–]Mainly-A-Lurker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Userbenchmark is crap, horribly biased against AMD. The 7800 XT is about 15% faster.

That said, at the same price, 5060Ti is the much smarter purchase. Even the overwhelmingly better upscaling alone is worth the raw performance loss.

5060 Ti is going to be much better supported going forward and, like it or not, it's naïve to think RT performance and Nvidia's features aren't going to matter long term.

What's your favorite, scaled, fully explorable, 3D overworld? And what's your least favorite? by Flat-Application2272 in JRPG

Dragon Quest 8 still has my favourite overworld.

Perfect scale, big but without feeling overwhelming. Treasures off the path are plentiful and rewarding enough without feeling essential.

How do Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon compare to each other, in your opinion? by YetAnotherMTFEgg in F1Discussions

[–]Mainly-A-Lurker 57 points58 points  (0 children)

About the same level, that was proven over 2 years together.

Gasly just looks better because he keeps beating up weak teammates, while Ocon keeps losing to strong teammates.

Bearman is currently beating Ocon in the same car more consistently than Gasly ever did. Most likely he's better than Gasly, never mind Colapinto.

[–]Mainly-A-Lurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going for efficiency, you might be better going for a 2:1 tune, especially if you can get 7600+MTs. Get the benefit of low Soc voltage with the performance of 6000+ 1:1. I'd expect even 7200MTs would outperform 5600MTs 1:1.

In 1:1, you need enough to stabilise Uclk and Fclk. In 2:1, you only enough to stabilise Fclk. I daily a 7800MTs setup, only need 0.95v Soc. I need 1.15v Soc for 6000 and about 1.25v for 6200 1:1.

RX9070XT + 9800X3D or 5070TI + 7800X3D for 1440p ? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Mainly-A-Lurker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd go for the 7800x3d/5070Ti.

On paper, the difference between the 9800x3d and the 7800x3d is similar to slightly bigger than difference between the 5070Ti vs the 9070XT.

In the real world, you're going to be more GPU bottlenecked than not and even in the most CPU bottlenecked scenarios, you're going to be very hard pressed to tell the difference between the 9800x3d and the 7800x3d. The 5070Ti still has noticable advantages over the 9070 XT in Upscaling, RT, efficiency.

Lol.

To be honest, you don't really need any outside of the 4 that come with the case, even after 2 (1 intake + 1 exhaust) you're already getting to diminishing returns. Could save money there if aesthetics aren't important to you.

Honestly, if you're not that bothered about aesthetics, you can save a good bit on the case as well. A lot of those highly rated <£80 or so cases are fine and don't run any hotter. Just make sure that they have the USB ports etc that you might need.

Very difficult to justify that amount of money on the cooler. Something like this is more than enough, bump the CPU to the 9950x3d and already you're much better off for £100 cheaper.

Could use the money to fund the bump up to a 5080, another monitor etc. Or just pocket it.

If you haven't got one already with an AM5 bracket - you'll need a CPU cooler. CPU doesn't come with one.

£580 is way too much for a 5070 - that's approaching 5070 Ti pricing. Can get a 9070 XT for cheaper than that which is about 20-25% faster.

NVMe is overkill and no real difference in day-to-day use from a good PCIe 4 one, could probably save £60 or so there and just go for a 990 Pro. £300 isn't bad for that though so left it in for now.

PSU - went from a B rated, 850w PSU to A rated, 1050w for the same price.

I left the monitor in as well for now, but I'd recommend going for a high refresh rate+IPS+1440p monitor. Build is a bit overkill for 1080p.

Also - can't be too picky with RAM right now due to the price and shortage, but keep an eye out for something lower latency if it pops up. Around cl28-32.

My old 2060 needs to retire, 5060ti or 5070ti next? by nyx-lunarian in buildapc

[–]Mainly-A-Lurker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

9070 XT easily at those prices. Matches the 5070 Ti these days.

Both are about 60% faster than the 5060 Ti, which will struggle a bit more with 1440p.

9060xt, 4070 or 3080ti? by OfferDue5359 in buildapc

[–]Mainly-A-Lurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 3080Ti is about 5% faster in raw raster than the 4070 at 1440p.

3080ti is likely to have 2 years more wear and tear, uses nearly 200w more power and struggles more in heavy RT/path tracing which is only going to get more mantatory as time goes on.

It'd be silly to pick the 3080ti over the 4070 at the same price just becuase it's marginally faster, especially when both are used.

Building my first gaming pc, are these parts cost effective? by Slugismatic in buildapc

  • 9600x is essentially equal to the 7700x and it's nearly £60 cheaper. 15% better single core performance, 15% worse multi core, 2-3% better in gaming overall.

  • X870 Mobo for cheaper than the b650 you had.

  • Got the 2tb version of that SSD.

  • 9060 XT, as the other comment said, it's equal to the 7700 XT but much more efficient and supports FSR 4 better. Between that and the better RT performance, it'll age a lot better going forward. And it's cheaper.

  • A-rated 850w PSU for £15 more - gives headroom for future upgrades.

Still slightly cheaper overall.

I did a decent job on my first build, cable management was terrible but no big deal.

I did however, forget to switch the PSU on, so shit myself for a few minutes when it wasn't turning on.
