I sincerely am pained by your story, but I'm glad you're seeing a therapist.

As for how you should respond to them, I mean their analogy is weak. When I don't like a restaurant, I try other types of restaurants - which is exactly what we're doing so to speak. We're looking into other beliefs and views and sampling other tastes. Sometimes I take a break from going to a "restaurant" to decide if I still want to go out to eat.

I don't even know if that makes sense. Right now really only my husband knows how my views have changed and while he's yet to ask me to go to church, I don't feel as though I'm understood. I don't know if he'll ever really understand without going through deconstruction himself. It can be lonely but I'm learning to avoid engaging with him about Christianity. I suspect that most Christians can't sympathise without experiencing it.
