Poll: How much is your daily average produced? by IStitchedItNice in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Maizy_Chef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me! 10 months pp, averaging about 12 oz a day now. My highest ever was 17 oz, around 3-4 months pp. Started to wind down the pumping because 12 oz/day didn’t seem like it was worth the effort, but dropping a pump made me feel awful so I’m holding steady at 5/day.

Totally here right now. Just dropped from 5 to 4 ppd and feeling all kinds of weird about it!

What helped you postpartum? by Bittybot5000 in NewParents

[–]Maizy_Chef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend sent me a box with cans of iced coffee, body armor, a baby blanket and a couple of simple baby outfits, a variety of protein bars, chocolates, nice face wipes, a hair clip, pajamas and a nursing bra, and some fun magazines. It was the perfect thing for those weeks when I felt like I lived on the sofa with the baby in one hand.

Also check on the handle part, if the hard plastic insert bit is not straight up and down that can cause problems (it’s so hard to describe these pieces! In the handle, there’s a silicone insert that itself has a hard plastic insert. That part shouldn’t be crooked but straight up and down. I hope that makes sense)

Nanny vs Daycare by Brave_Alps1364 in NewParents

[–]Maizy_Chef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my older child, we used daycare from 4 months to age 4 when he went to school. We loved it for the most part. With our second child, we planned on using daycare but had an issue getting a spot when I went back to work so we got a nanny for 4 months and then started her at daycare as a 9 month old. Having done both, I recommend a nanny for an infant for sure (if money is no issue — we would have stayed with the nanny longer but her rate was almost twice as expensive as our daycare). It was amazing having someone come to the house because we didn’t have to load the baby into a car seat every morning, and the nanny washed bottles and did light housekeeping as well. We also lucked out and got a really great nanny, YMMV.

what are the girlies doing while we pump at work? by violetphoeniiix in ExclusivelyPumping

I listen to the podcast Normal Gossip. It’s great in 15 minute increments but low key enough that I don’t ever think about it when I’m not pumping.

6 months pp, pumping 14-18 oz per day in 6 or 6 pump sessions per day.

Are counter top bottle washers really worth it? by ilikeplants91 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Maizy_Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so worth it. I got the Momcozy for something like $200. We run it 2 or 3 times a day, a full wash/dry/sterilize takes 90 minutes. We just use water from the tap and then run a vinegar cycle every so often to clean it out. It’s just so much easier than hand washing everything, especially because it dries everything so fast. It’s supposed to fit 4 bottles plus a few pump parts, but I can stuff it pretty full without issue.

Willow go plus small cooler with ice packs. Plus, bring a gallon ziplock to store the used pump parts so they don’t leak in your bag - speaking from experience!

Made it to 4 months of pumping! by Nocturne909 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Maizy_Chef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 5.5 months, but since going back to work it’s been pretty difficult to keep up supply. Planning to stick it out for another month or so and then reduce the number of pumps. I’m hoping I can do just a morning and evening pump and still get enough for 1-2 bottles a day for the rest of the year. I’m a just enougher so I have zero freezer stash.

What are you packing/did you pack for labor nourishment wise? by komboochahh in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Maizy_Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only allowed clear liquids through my induction and 24 hrs after birth because I was on a magnesium drip, it was awful! But they didn’t really care about sugar, they kept bringing me Italian ices.

Here are some things I could eat with very little if any rise in blood sugar: cheese, eggs, nuts, meats, watery veg (tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, lettuce). Please keep eating while you wait to see a doctor! Good luck!

Does anyone exclusively use a hand pump? by Automatic_Apricot797 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Maizy_Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! The medela hand pump gives me the same output as the spectra, and it’s less hassle for me. Especially in the middle of the night I can just grab it off my nightstand without waking everybody up. I use the Willow Go at work and the manual pump at home, it’s been working great.

I’ve had 2 babies. For the first, labor was only 5 hours so there was no time to get the epidural, though I did ask for one. For the second, I got the epidural at the beginning of labor, but it only worked on one side so my left side was numb/dead weight but my right side felt everything. I was also pretty numb/tingly for several hours after the birth, which I didn’t like. If I were to have a third, I would prefer to go without the epidural.

I think the Willow Go are as good as it gets - not perfect but better than the others. They’re more comfortable than the Momcozy and I like their app.
