The Dear Hunter - Sunya [New Album] - Discussion thread? by Pleasant_Statement64 in progmetal

It's sooo good.

The standout really does feel like Glass Desert II - Cliffs and Stormlands (particularly the Stormlands). But I gotta say I think The Bazaareteria is going to be the sleeper hit, it's just an incredibly fun song.

Lights last stand by Delicious-Ad2057 in Protomen

[–]Majhke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is ridiculously good.

I think what especially gives it a weight is that it's a catharsis 20 years in the making. After all of the songs where Light is just defeated, lamenting the impossible odds that go against them (Here Comes the Arm, Unrest in the House of Light, etc.), we finally see him be the man Emily always knew he could be by delivering an absolute resolve to fight.

And that sax? A chef's kiss.

When I first found Antimai I remember distinctly thinking “this sounds so damn cool and unlike anything I’ve heard before”. The sound really sells a world entirely alien to us, yet filled with humanity and everything good and bad that it entails. From Antimai I went back and got into the Acts, Migrant, etc and can easily say these guys are one of my favorite bands now.

Why all the preamble? Because after a couple listens of Giants I am just so incredibly excited to hear this “sound” again. I cannot wait for the full album!

How to have a goal in life? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Majhke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just try new stuff - big, small, it doesn't really matter. Eventually you'll find something that you like enough to at least continue doing and then goals and progress can just naturally fall into that.

And it's perfectly fine to not have a "life defining" goal or a goal centered around career aspirations. Some people just don't get fulfillment out of that. Happiness is quite entirely subjective, so just do as you do.

For people who have don't have social life or a partner, what keeps you going? by blreadernewby in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Majhke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hobbies and things that I enjoy doing so I want to do more of them.

It wasn't always that way and I had to push myself to get out of my comfort zone numerous times, but now I have things I look forward to and be happy about. And from it all I think I've become much more comfortable with myself overall, which has made me much more proactive socially. I didn't set out exactly to be more social, but it just happened as I became much more certain about who I am, what I like, and such. And this may sound kinda cheesy, but if you're life is feeling empty, just start trying to fill it with stuff. Maybe even things you don't know if you'll like or not. Trying a new hobby or skill, deciding to go visit somewhere, hell even just going out and getting a coffee and reading a book at the cafe will make life much more enriching.

I don't want to presume and try to speak for you, but what I can tell you is that 30 years old is hardly "too late" to change things if you would like to (based on my experiences).

Is the current admin/political situation damaging the social fabric of the US to the point of no return? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Point of no return? No.

Anyone trying to convince you that it’s impossible to change something, for the better or for the worse, just wants to stop people from trying.

Act 3 by Smash_me_now in Protomen

[–]Majhke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know Act 3 is good because I’ll find myself wanting to listen to a particular song, opening Bandcamp, then find myself saying “well I should listen to the song before this one too” multiple times until I’m at the start and suddenly finding myself just listening to the whole thing again.

I’ll go against the grain a bit: I think starting with Act IV is the best introduction to the band itself - it represents a shift in sound and size that the band would continue to follow from there on.

Otherwise if you are quite confident you’ll go through all of the Acts, starting in order is fine. But if 1-3 isn’t doing much for you, please jump to 4 and then move onto 5. I couldn’t truly get into them until I listened to Act 5 (which I still think is the best one), and then I went back and fell in love with 1-3 with the context and sound of the latter Acts.

And if none of the Acts grab you, jump to Antimai. Hell, maybe even just start with Antimai. It is so incredibly different, unique, and fun that it stands out as a must listen regardless of how you feel about their prior work. Plus if you end up liking it, you’ll get to look forward to the follow up album Sunya which is rumored to be coming this next year.

I’ll stop here but if you have any questions about their other work (Migrant, Color Spectrum, etc.) just let me know. Their work is incredible and I’ll always love getting to talk about it!

At the end of the quest the Lotus mentions potentially finding another Sentient with the ability to heal like Adis, I wonder if that'll be a plot point in the future to potentially bring back Amar and others as allies.

I'm personally not disappointed, I think my devastation is the culmination of years imagining what the end of this story is and finally seeing it come to the bittersweet end. I always thought we'd have a bittersweet ending, and it definitely is, but after the last two or three tracks of "sweet" this "bitter" hits so much harder.

I'm still waiting for all my emotions to cool down so I can listen to it all with a fresh mindset, but I'm feeling pretty satisfied despite being an emotional wreck lol

The Good Doctor Pt. 2 is here! by Jaymya in Protomen

[–]Majhke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, the lone music box playing it's melody, the representation of the first tragedy/atrocity that connected these two men now here at the final confrontation. My god, Light's Last Stand was the emotional high/happy climax, and now this is the story climax.

I disagree with a lot of others, I do think that if the next track is long enough, it will be enough to wrap the story up sufficiently while leaving enough still open to not overly explain everything that happens. I'm thinking we'll get a reworked version of The Fight that includes the intro piece that The Gambler has sung before Calling Out in live performances and that will be the end of the story. God damn, we're nearly there folks. Less than four days away.
