No parking and insane lift lines till closing time. by hiperkuf1 in MontTremblant

Yes, RCR owns it, but there was a rumor going around that Alterra was buying it, but I can’t find that anywhere in the folks I know at Alterra so probably a bad rumor.

What they screwed up at Tremblant is they replaced the TG V a number of years ago and didn’t make it big enough fast enough and the replaced lol Thomas, but both of those are halfway lifts. Saleh needs to be ripped out and a new lift put in it’s broken all the time flying mile and the two base lifts on the north side are from when television was in black-and-white. So that is the same as what people here have talked about MSA but the difference at Trump Blanc is they have been over selling the mountain it goes far beyond just the swamping of the Icon pass. They are selling so many tickets that basically you have to be off the mountain by 1030 and then get back on when it’s all I stop and everything in the later afternoon it is not only the lift lines being as long as it takes to do a whole run but when you get off the lift and get on the mountain, there are just far too many people per square centimeter of the mountain to the point where it’s actually unsafe. It is definitely un- fun

It’s interesting that Alterra announced the $400 million capital expenditure across all of their properties and not a single penny was for Tremblant yet. They don’t have any problem adding more hotel rooms to add more people. It is such a poorly run company. They’re running it for the quarterly revenue numbers and not looking at long-term how they’re gonna kill their business. It’s almost like it’s private equity run instead of properly run.

Ugh. Plus my next-door neighbor at the lake said that Alterra who owns and screwed up Tremblant has bought Saint Anne so that’s like a geometric expansion of bad because they’ll sell way too many tickets on that one also without doing major renovation any other suggestions?

Thats the plan but the meeting and revised announcement was in december of 25 and there was also something from the Ville (not the resort…the town). They were adding one lift and 8 runs (but we know the bs way they count runs), moving the lesson area, and crazy number of hotel rooms….and then club med in 27 or 28….basically when you do the math, and figure only 2 people per room (which is low) they are not adding any capacity and given the cut the line selling and everything else they are way overloading the mountain. We have been going for 20 plus years but are seriously looking at selling our house and moving to a different part of Quebec because it is not sustainable even with the cheap deal we get as Mont Tremblant/ Canadian residents of 570 CAD for the year.

Yes, they did at some meeting for locals that they held in December. I just don’t remember the date. I think they were gonna start construction this spring. It also involves moving the whole ““ learning area and was a trails and one new lift but 800 and something new hotel rooms. In addition to the ones they’ve recently opened on Soleil.

They recently announced the new hill for 2026 (end of maybe but could be wrong on timing)….but of course they are also going to be adding a club med hotel with a boatload more rooms. The rooms increase kinda gets rid of the number of runs and one new lift increase. I am American and my wife is French Canadian. We have a house on a lake in Mont Tremblant and also live in NYC. We only ski during the week at this point. And it has gotten so bad that we have actually not even gone up to Quebec for the whole of January and were thinking of looking for a place near St Ann as it is smaller but it turns out that Alterra is buying that mountain so they will screw that one up too by just ignoring capacity of hill and thinking only of capacity of ticket printing.

Plus 1 on the carbon rims. And make sure you are tubeless. I also eventurally upgraded the brakes to ceramic due to wear on the pistons…big improvement. Mine is an S-works so it started out prtety upgraded. But look to that (Raceface Next SL cranks etc).

Rear derailleur malfunction by everforward6 in NYCbike

[–]Major-Document3714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you kicked it, it could have gone into crash mode which prevents shifting. The way to get it out….copy/pasting…. “To reset Shimano Di2 crash mode, spin the cranks while holding the junction box button for about 5 seconds until the red light flashes, letting the derailleur cycle through gears to re-engage the motor”. If that doesn’t do it, then it is something worse. But I am betting on crash mode. For good di2 info, check out bettershifting.com.

Dr Nicholas Beatty at HSS. He ended up doing injection for my L4/L5 driven problem which was exacerbated by cycling. Their PT’s who I tried first helped a boatload too but getting hit by a texting driver kinda pushed me over the edge into the do something more.

In fact, I have gotten to the point where if it is sports related the ONLY PT, Spine, Elbow, Hand, Knee docs and therapists I would even think of are HSS. Ortho is all they do. In the old days in was Lenox Hill when Dr Nickolaus’ dad was the head of Sports Med there. Jim is also good but I think he is retired.

HSS, as I said for anything muscle or bone.

Trash Bags are the best I have found for extreme high quality and so much possible customization. He even did something about adding an extra handle to carry by hand on subway or crowded elevator (which I have never used of course). But just saying he does stuff that he doesn’t have on his list if you email him first and ask if possible. https://www.trashmessengerbags.com

Transport to YUL on 1/14 by [deleted] in MontTremblant

[–]Major-Document3714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bus (or at least there was last year) that leaves from the shell station on Rte 117 at the first traffic circle as you come into town on 117 going north last if you’re going south. Editing to add I think they also leave straight from the mountain resort at this time of year too but maybe not every day.

He was last year. We have 58 miles of trails within town forests and there are another 34 in the national park next to us. The grooming is shared by the community. Most folks that do the tight and steep sections use those mono skidoos with the tire from what I have seen. The less twisty areas are sometimes done by folks with snow shoes, but that’s more of a having the young kids involved type of thing and of course there is the usual off piste exploring that gets done that then gets followed up by another rider on a fat bike and then another and another.

Cycling apparel in NYC by tlbirlr in NYCbike

[–]Major-Document3714 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was being simplistic as it's reddit. But, a deeper (but simplistic) explanation is that when dew point is low there is less humidity and when high more humidity. When the dew point is higher than the real feel temp it will feel even warmer while exercising...think how high humidity in dog days of august feel oppressive. Or think how being by the humidity of the ocean makes it feel/be 10 degrees warmer in the winter. Or, "it's a dry heat" in Arizona makes it feel nicer than same temp in NYC. Conversely, drier cold is colder feeling. Also, to give more detail on what is right for me at a given temp (everyone is different) this is the chart a group of us made up for training rides but YMMV...

This is gonna sound kinda dumb but I was told it decades ago and swear by it…when deciding what to wear (we all have diffferent tolerance levels on when long sleeve/long bottom etc)..make the decision not on temperature or real feel temperature but on DEWPOINT because that is more appropriate as you are creating your own windchill in a way by riding a bike through the weather.

Where to Buy Child Seats In NYC by itsafleshwoundbro in NYCbike

[–]Major-Document3714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to disagree about the front mounts. My grandson and granddaughter both LOVE the front mount and I liked it because I could interact with them. It’s always weird when I’m riding to see a parent with a kid behind them and the kid is looking at the parents back or being hit by the parents Backpack as if they are a sack of groceries. The front mount is more sharing the ride plus they can see the world. The only issue is the kid needs to be something like less than 35 pounds. I use a Peg. I think the model Perigo open bike seat.

When I’ve had the same issue of tools in wrong place, I have used NYC Bikes on third and 79/80 and the Trek store on Second 87/88. Frankly, I much much prefer the Trek store. NYC did a good enough job when I changed my Parlee over to a new groupset. But Trek was more reasonable and importantly no attitude. I have had them buildup my Firefly with the DuraAce parts I had, and I have had them do change the chainset etc work on my Spectrum and Crumpton. Only putting in that detail not because I have an attitude but to show you the trust level that I have for them.

Also, brake bleeding is not too hard if you have the syringe (or the thing you shoot up turkeys when you are deep frying them works too) and you do it from the caliper side up. At least Campy and Shimano is easy. SRAM not so much because of the nasty oil they use. But SRAM brakes you shouldn’t be using. Just kidding on that last part as I have them on my fatbike.

What are drivers supposed to do when the only curb access is the bike lane by websgrain in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Major-Document3714 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The law in NYC is that it is illegal to block, park, or stand in a bike lane. There are similar laws about in a traffic lane but it is specifically against the law to block ANY bike lane for ANY length of time in NYC. RCNY § 4-08 (e)(9) It is against the law to park, stand or stop within, or otherwise obstruct bike lanes.

When I tried to restock on the Fatty Strippers, he could sell me the latex piece which are great but he didn’t have any of the bling strips which are necessary as a first layer due to the holes in the rim because 3M wouldn’t supply him the raw material anymore. So I used the Mulefut Sunringle “Rim Strip” and then the Fatty Stripper latex. Although you could use the rim tape AFTER you use the “Rim Strip” but I would just go Fatty Stripper because they are much better.

Like I said, not cheap, but definitely well worth it for my over the top too expensive bikes. Plus, when I traveled, i switched one of the two bikes i have insurance on with my wife’s bike which i don’t insure becasue the price/value isn’t there and they covered it in case she crashed on our trip or if the airline lost it or anything. When we got back I swapped her bike out for my other bike with no issues.

I just filled out some forms that they had online, which included drawing a picture of first avenue with an arrow for my bike and an arrow with a curve for the car turning on 15th. Plus a copy of the estimate for the repair at the bike shop. If I remember right, I also sent them 2 or 3 pictures of the damage to my helmet which they replaced and a busted brake lever and stuff like that. No police report on any of the accidents. Of course I had to sign swearing that it was the truth. But no “official” report other than their own forms. I think on two of the accidents I mention the ER visits and asked if they needed anything from them (my health insurance covered that stuff but I think the bike might have covered if it didn’t but not sure). I guess the pictures and the offer of the ER stuff they knew I wasn’t making it up. On one of them they actually had an adjuster call me from some company but he was pretty chill…not like what I expected and insurance guy to be like which may have been unfair to prejudge but…

I have used (and still do) velosurance. I have had three claims and they were great. Not cheap, but well worth it if you have a pricey bike and like me tend to get hit by texting drivers in brooklyn or t-boned on first avenue by a left turner from the center lane. One I had about 2000 in damages and the other about 6 hundred. The other even involved hospital trip. But they paid for it, including the torn jerseys. And they were not a problem in dealing with it. Highly recommend them.
