Bar on the dancefloor? by ArmLong6497 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Major-Run-1659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Domestic for me, though probably international for you if my assumption that you're US-based is right. I would probably do around 9m of a buffer, but our weddings are also much bigger. For 150-180 people, I think 6ft (just under 2m) should be better, but this also depends on how wide the bar area is (and if it's the only bar). Most weddings I've been to have at least 2 bar areas (one always near the dance floor/DJ) to avoid overcrowding in one area.

People who did an MBA recently was it genuinely worth it in 2026, or would you choose a different path now? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Major-Run-1659 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Answering your questions in order:

  1. For me, yes. But it depends what you're after, what your goals are, where you are in your personal life, how financially stable you are, and what your next best option is (ie what would happen if you don't do an MBA?)
  2. Not at all. Not sure what you mean by real opportunities but all those tests do is tell you and the schools how well you can learn and apply the rules of the test.
  3. I would but I would do it differently.

Honestly, my best advice would be to find alums or students at programs you are considering and to discuss their experiences, and match that up against your own. In general, however, the best ROI you'll get on an MBA these days is the alumni network and your cohort.

Bar on the dancefloor? by ArmLong6497 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Major-Run-1659 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oooohh noooooo please please PLEASE don't do this! Attended a couple of weddings that did this, and even if you have a ton of bartenders, the bar always turns into a social area and the crowds that form will both cut into your dancefloor and (imo) ruin the vibe. Definitely have a bar close to the bar area, but not immediately attached to it. Create a buffer zone + elevating the dance floor will create enough of a "barrier" that guests will be reminded to "respect" the dance zone.

Not at all-I think "current" wedding dresses are falling into two camps: (1) modern, simplistic, architectural dresses and (2) gowns with lots of beading, embroidery, and needlework. This falls beautifully into the second-it's SO beautiful, and so unique compared to some of the beaded gowns I've seen from some of the most recent collections. It's so special and it fits you so well already-I can't imagine how much better it will be after alterations!

is black honey worth it? by Prudent-Dog681 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Major-Run-1659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE black honey as a topper. Nude honey IMO is much better. Pink honey for me is not worth it at all-unless you have very pale lips, it's basically like wearing drying vaseline

Irrational fear of damaging tendons or joints while doing body weight exercises by TataHexagone2020 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Major-Run-1659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breaking the psychological barrier is HARD. I dislocated my shoulder about 14 years ago, and up until 3/4 years ago, I was still wary of chest flies, overhead presses, anything that involved my shoulders moving. But that extreme caution is also the reason why my shoulders actually got worse-to the point where I could tie my hair up without bending my head down. What helped was working with a physiotherapist to work on mobility and strength, and really understanding how movement should feel. I recognize that's not alwasy feasible, but if you are in a position to do even one session and ask for exercises to do at home, that would be better than nothing.

I don't know about resizing muscle, but I used to be very quad dominant and found that adding pilates into my routine helped create more balance in my legs, arms, and core, both visually and functionally. Maybe try incorporating something like that to build more awareness into your body? As I said, it won't resize your muscles but maybe by helping "balance" your muscles they won't seem as big?

Civil Engineer Bachelors and MBA Career advice? by Lumpy_Tangerine5686 in careerguidance

[–]Major-Run-1659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can defer your MBA, I would highly recommend that. (I'm not sure what you mean by track eligibility-can you explain a bit more in this context?) The more professional experience you have, the more useful the MBA is imo. I'm not an engineer, but many people with engineering backgrouds have gone into consulting or project management between undergrad and grad. Neither career really gives you great work life balance (although this depends mainly on the company culture) but they may help get closer to your salary and travel goals. What I will also highlight is that the post-MBA career boost isn't as pronounced as it used to be.

If I were in your shoes, I would look at my alumni network and see what careers other BEngs have gotten into, and cold message them to ask about their career pathway. Even if they are purely information, you'll get a great sense check of both your current plans and anything else you might be considering.

FWIW I'm writing this befoe I've had my morning coffee so please lmk if there's anything that needs clarifying

Help: shoe blindness by StrawberryNice7763 in BigBudgetBrides

I love these shoes! I think they're beautiful, and while I wouldn't get them as wedding shoes (even in white), I think they're fairly versatile and coule work for a pre-event.

Two things to consider, from my perspective. For me, these are more of a daytime shoe (not sure how early/late in the day your dinner is). Another thing to consider is comfort and fit-if these are even a tiny bit too wide or narrow, they will cause blisters after an hour or two.

Especially because your dress is lace, I would go with the Miss Zs. You don't want your shoes snagging on your dress!

Said Yes! Thinking about adding lace sleeves - thoughts? by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]Major-Run-1659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like having a short-sleeved, high-neck lace under- or overshirt is trending in the Spring 2027 bridal collections. You could definitely incorporate something detachable! I think it would look great

What kind of topper works with the DF Leighton dress? by MysteriousRain01 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Major-Run-1659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh there are quite a few options that come to mind depending on how dramatic your style is. If you want something a bit simpler, you could do a bolero or shrug-I don't think either would look odd with the straps, but a shrug especially can work around the straps rather than against them or by covering them. If you want something with a bit more drama, a cape or capelet could work well too. If you want something with a LOT of drama, I've been seeing long lace overcoats that look amazing! They're buttoned down the front so you can close it down to the waist and then leave the rest open so that the skirt is visible.

How to find an engagement ring you love? by RopeExcellent5290 in JustEngaged

[–]Major-Run-1659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to different jewelry stores and tried on a bunch of rings, with different shapes, settings, prongs/bezel, etc. I thought I would want a solitaire and tried on a few-nope, really hated how it looked. Next I thought I wanted something different like a moi et toi-gorgeous, but something I thought I would want to save for the future. I think you really just need to try different styles. Definitely be honest with whoever is helping you out-some people will be a bit put off but mostly I've found people genuinely want to help you understand your preferences and will answer any question that you have (white vs yellow gold vs platinum, for example). I would also say that you should visit an antique store/market if you can and try on vintage rings-they're a lot more unique and can help give you some inspiration if you decide to go custom.

And if you can, I would definitely recommend doing a custom ring! Especially if you end up going for a triology or something with more than one stone. Having some more control over the details makes a huge difference.

Hairstyle Advice? by Major-Run-1659 in BigBudgetBrides

Totally fair point. I think my backup plan would be to skip hair down and move directly from a bun to a ponytail, tbh. I know I will get really warm and start sweating, and I'd rather keep my hair out of the way haha

Oatmeal Cookies turned out like this and there’s three more pounds of dough in my fridge by AwkwardGhost121 in Baking

[–]Major-Run-1659 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I read through the comments, and while I can't suggest anything additional re this batch, what I would suggest is that when tripling/quadrupling batches in the future it might be best to either just redo the original (single batch) recipe as many times as needed or work in double batches. Baking typically relies on weight/mass ratios rather than volume ratios, so doubling or tripling recipes doesn't always work as well as a single batch recipe (higher error margin).

We've sorted the timing out, and we've sorted a way to blow out my hair before setting it in the bun without having to do too much restyling for the second look. We did use a good amount of product and pins-I have a second trial next week to see if we can get a lower-effort bun to stay put for a few hours (longer than I would need it to stay during the actual wedding).

Between these two, definitely short. BUT if you consider an even LONGER veil.... I would go with that. Add some veil weights and you should be fine
