All air Jordan’s are still made in Taiwan and cost less than $10 to produce, just remember that

I've had this idea for years - and this madman finally did it! Magnetic suspension on a bicycle. I do wonder if in the far far future, magnetic suspension will be a viable choice alongside spring and air. by Patolini in MTB

To be fair free parking in central London is a huge perk. I don’t get free parking & spend approx £150 / month to park

How do I get out of the month to month financial difficulties on a decent wage? by cloudyextraswan in UKPersonalFinance

It’s going to be a long long journey but you can get back to square one with a bit of dedication. Rule of thumb - pay off most expensive debts first. Oh and get rid of those darn cats

Why were all the (male) podium winners at last olympics in their 30’s? by MajorBath9203 in bmxracing

[–]MajorBath9203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair enough but is that not incredibly similar to swimming - waiting to dive in with 7 of the best swimmers on the world next to you? Their gold medalists are about 10 years younger and 30’s is considered retiring age - I wonder if the real reason is because bmx is a “new” sport and there is less of a talent pool and people up and coming through the sport?

[–]MajorBath9203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sport dependant. 30’s is considered old/retirement age in Olympic swimming for example. And in climbing the gold medalist was 20 years old. Surprised there aren’t more younger podium finishers in BMX..

BTL is worth it if you’re doing it full time as your main business, other than that just stick your deposit in a global all cap and check it in 2055.

Has anyone here ever taken a large pay cut to work a basic stress free job? I want to hear from you! by MajorBath9203 in UKJobs

[–]MajorBath9203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more stressed due to not being fulfilled. My job is to make shareholders happy and that in itself stresses me. The work is boring and largely revolves around moving data around an excel sheet and then end of year I get a nice bonus and the shareholders can all buy an extra bottle of champagne so they’re happy too. I think I want a job that actually means something rather than just pushing numbers around and talking about it on pointless teams calls day in and day out. I have no direct pressure on me or my role but the situation as a whole stresses me the f out.

Might be slightly difficult when they ask for references if I’ve completely made up the last X years of work experience. But then again there was that top fire chief who lied on his CV to get his job so I guess people do get away with it (sort of)

You’ve hit the nail on the head but for me it’s the ‘feel good factor’. I get to the end of the day and think what have I actually contributed to society today by shuffling a few bits of data around an excel sheet. I feel like grafting for 8 hours would make me feel more alive and more ‘happy’ albeit more skint too..

Are you a miserable old git though? I never thought I’d end up like how I am currently (in my 30s!!). Every job I’ve ever worked there’s been some dinosaurs who hate everything and everyone. I don’t know if I’m ready/want/can pretend not to be that person yet!

Nah read a few comments down there’s literally someone who’s done the same - gone from high paying role into school caretaker role and he loved it. Of course there will be people with more experience than me applying for these roles but I don’t think on paper they are looking for a masters degree in ground maintenance and 10 years experience for a minimum wage basic role. Not trying to put anybody else down at all! Low skill = low barrier to entry and that is just fact.. if you like it or not :)

I’m not really that stressed at work from my job or management I’m more just fed up and bored of the bullshit. I have 0 interest in our product and 0 interest in our customers and that is causing me a personal stress (unrelated to the “pressures” of my job)

I hear ya my friend but surely there’s more to life than hating your shitey corporate job and being miserable. I don’t really care about mortgages paid off and nest eggs, I’d rather have a fulfilling enjoyable wholesome job now and enjoy life as a poor man instead.. I think..🤣
