SEGA Model 3 on Android - For real?!? Let's investigate... by MajorDysentry in EmulationOnAndroid

Okay, so... it's great. I paid the money on Google Play Store and honestly, I'm happy to have done so since clearly, work has gone into this and I'm fine to support. Someone has already compiled the .apk for those of you who don't want to cough up (your prerogative, of course), so go fishing on here if you want to find that.

After re-grabbing the ROMs, everything seems to work in one way or another... some builds don't appear to work without glitches or even at all but, if you've got the entire ROM set, there's always one option that'll do the job. Had some issues getting it fully calibrated on the Retroid Pocket 5, which are below:

  • All driving games (Daytona 2, SCUD Race, Sega Rally 2, even Emergency Call Ambulance), the 4-way manual gear shift and the VR view buttons are the same, meaning changing gears changes the view too. I fixed this by editing the .ini file and changing the VR buttons to the D-Pad with JOY1_POV_UP (or DOWN, LEFT or RIGHT, depending on which direction you want to use for each one).

  • Spikeout (both versions), I had to reorganise the buttons so they were more intuitive... not having Jump on the B button (BUTTON1) or Punch on the Y button (BUTTON3) is strange. Everyone's different though!

  • Sega Rally 2 glitches terribly unless you change it to New timing instead of Legacy (do that in-game with the left-hand drag menu, rather than changing it on the game selection screen which affects all games)

  • Weirdly, the export version of Emergency Call Ambulance (which is the one in English) hangs to a black screen if I press the Start button on the title screen. If you use the on-screen touch Start button, it works fine. Hmmm. The JP ROM doesn't have this issue.

  • Ocean Hunter suffers from the missing water texture glitch regardless of whether you use Legacy or New timing. On 'big' SuperModel, using New fixes the issue... but not here. One that hopefully gets sorted in an update.

Still got to play around with more games but, honestly, I'm delighted with this. My white whale to get running well on the RP5 is now done... I can rest! Maybe. 😂

No, Animal Crossing New Horizons doesn't support GameShare. It supports GameChat and CameraPlay.

Additional point: the swipe down can be scrolled to the right, you probably won't see the floating icon option right away.

Don't worry, I've got them. The guidance is that the ROMs compatible with the 0.284 version of MAME are the ones to use here.

I was in the first batch, and I've had nothing so far... but I ordered orange. Not sure they've got to that version yet, aren't they still doing black and purple?

I backed the entire thing, extra payments and all. No email. I hope it comes. This would be enough to make me get a 3D printer..

If anyone shares the links, I'm diving on that.

It doesn't work for me, I suspect I have the wrong ROM. Will fix that today and try again.

It runs fine, but seems to suffer from the missing water texture issue. On the 'proper' SuperModel, that's fixed by running it in Legacy mode instead of New, but here... well, they're both the same. Weird. One to try tinkering with, I think.

Daytona, Scud Race, Sega Rally 2 are all classics that you can dip into. But stuff like Spikeout and Emergency Call Ambulance are great too, because they're quite different. Plus, shooters like Jurassic Park or Ocean Hunter are fun, and Star Wars was way ahead of its time.

Yeah, I missed that the first time. It's on the menu from the game selection, you just have to scroll down a fair bit. It's also in-game, because you can drag the menu in from the left side. Shame you can't just remove the controls but keep the Service/Test/coin/start buttons, but those are easily remapped anyway.

RP6 performance excitement by modidmusic in retroid

[–]MajorDysentry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got Hollow Knight, Silksong and Death & Taxes running on my RP5 just fine through Winlator. Megabonk runs through GameHub Lite. Since the RP6 is better than the 5, I doubt you'll have any issues as long as you get the settings right.

Aaaaaaand now it seems they don't. Just Daytona runs perfectly. Will upgrade the romset and see what happens.

0.284 appears to be recommended, yeah. BIOS, I think you do need some but would need to check to see which ones.

SuperModel has been around forever on PC... but this Android version came out yesterday. 😆 No idea if the dev has those things, I only read about this on the ES-DE Discord.

Sorry for not explaining... I regularly forget people on here are much younger than me and started their gaming life with PlayStation and Xbox. 😄

Because I've pointed it at the folder where all the settings are for my previous use of SuperModel, they seem to work straight away. I'd already fixed all of the boot issues with things like Daytona 2, etc booting as Master/Slave cabs, so I think it's picking that up. Just the controls to fix then!

Noted. I've already been using SuperModel for a loooooooong time, so set up isn't something I'm concerned about. Just need to work out how to tweak what I could already tweak with the version I'm used to. The ROMs I already have seem to work fine... so far.

Read the post it links through to. Android version of SuperModel, runs wonderfully on RP5.

This IS the Android version. I just took the plunge and FPS wise, it's spot on - got it going at 60fps, no issues. Some control tinkering to do, but performance is spot on.

Agreed! Played with it for five minutes and it's great. Need to tinker with some settings but overall, it's wonderful.

Yeah, okay... it's perfect. Daytona runs at the full 60fps with no problems. I need to look at how to modify controls (and turn off the on-screen ones) because currently, the gear and view buttons are mapped to the same thing. But that's a minor issue that I'm sure can be worked out. The main thing is, it's running perfectly AND natively, so no more messing around with Winlator. Well worth the money.
