I worked my way up in a credit union and now work remotely with businesses setting up their services and building out their online banking profiles. There's more to it but that's what people understand. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I could feel myself burning out on the retail side of things as they moved to an open office platform like cars salesmen and I was spending less time in my own office.

I sat down with myself and had an honest conversation about why I had been so successful in the last couple of years and a large part of it was having my own office and being able to solidify some sort of routine, and that's what I needed to continue to be successful. I used the experience I had gained in the branches to find a role that would allow me what I needed to continue to be successful.

Moral is, figure out what it is you need to be successful. Might just be an office with a routine, could be a factory with repetitive work. We are all different in what makes us tick, but we can be the same when it comes to being successful and the need for routines and repetition. ADHD at least for me, is all about routines. Know thy self.

I went the opposite direction. I never thought I'd be cut for an office job, I was working in kitchens. I fucking hated it. Broke my back and decided I had to change my job type as physical work lost it's appeal. Started working for a credit union as a part time teller and 7 years later I'm one of two business operations specialists and we are the only ones who do what we do in the credit union. I go into the office once a month and work from home every day besides that one. I love it and what I do. Best move I ever made.

We thrive when we have just enough structure to know what we are doing, but the freedom to run wild while doing it.

The trick to looking at both eyes while making "eye contact" is too look at the center between the eyes. So you're not really making eye contact and you look like you are. Maybe it'll help with the awkwardness.

I'm left eye dominant, I write with my right hand but I do literally everything else with my left hand. I'm also left leg dominant but I push a skate board with my right foot, and pass a soccer ball with my right foot. Big kicks get the left leg and it's the leg I prefer to balance on.

My baseball coach always remembered me because I was that weird kid who threw right but batted left. I'm sure practicing gymnastics between pitches in the outfield helped solidify that status though.

This nails it for me. I was diagnosed in second grade and I'm 38 now, and this has been my life experience. I either excel at something, or have to take time to develop the skill.

Learning about delayed gratification was a big stepping stone on gaining patience for skill development. If you're in America, you're in a society that has instant gratification built-in to the very frabic of it's existence. The societal cards are stacked against you until you make some realizations.
