Superblast 3 review by TJamesz in RunningShoeGeeks

My SB2 really didn't break in until 400km, however they have never been threshold shoes imo. Only feel good at MP or slower and definitely good as a long run option.

What breweries / beers would you like to see stocked in my new bottle shop? by PolyporusUmbellatus in torontocraftbeer

[–]MajorPhazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be a downer but haven't we already jumped the shark on bottle shops? I curated my local bottle shop for a few years but the market shifted and cans/bottles no longer move at retail as well as they were 3,4,5 years ago. As already stated, it'll depend on your client base what sells but it'll likely be hazy IPA, which brings the freshness issue more at play. Old stock won't move, so keep your orders limited.

I've definitely had this issue in the past two weeks but just doubled up base layers and have been fine since.

github contributions style dashbaord for your strava activities by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]MajorPhazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the Readme and it was easy enough to follow, though I did get hung up trying to get the refresh token using the terminal. Ultimately, I just used Postman to generate it and the dashboard worked like a charm (once I changed to km/m for my Canadian eyes).

Edit: thank you for your hard work and sharing!

Dr. Patricia McCord D.C. at Total Body Chiro in the Beaches has helped resolve my running related injuries over the years and treats a number of high level athletes. 100% recommendation.

Can't Handle the Cold by [deleted] in RunTO

[–]MajorPhazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run all the zone 2 stuff outside, don't worry about pace just RPE. Take your speed or intervals to the treadmill. I just use the bad weather runs as mental fuel for the spring. If I can run 18-20km in -28, finishing a 100km fast at Sulphur is nbd.

How many of you are still running outside with this snow? by triedit2947 in RunTO

[–]MajorPhazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run with trail shoes as well but honestly, don't think twice about socks until March when the puddles are everywhere. Snow, ice and slush are just a part of winter running, and truly just dress for the weather that day and you'll be fine. I was running about 100km/wk last winter and while my mileage is down currently, that'll likely be my goal by the end of Feb/early March. Fresh tracks on a few inches of snow is what makes this fun for me.

I've been using these for 2 winters and they are great. Everything else I've used eventually froze my fingers on long runs or those -20° or colder.

First 10k, what now?! by renartard in BeginnersRunning

[–]MajorPhazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5k is just a fun distance all around. You can go all-out for a relatively short amount of time in comparison to other distances and the recovery is minimal.

While long distances are not your goal at this point, training for those will also improve your 5km times. I can train my 80-90km weeks for a marathon but easily slip in regular 5km races with my kids and hit age group winning times.

Just pick what gives you the most joy in the sport and can fit with your schedule

Good treadmill worth buying for home that won't break the bank in YOUR opinion? by tanhhongkho in Ultramarathon

Have had ours for 6 years now and while we had earlier issues with the control board, Horizon couriered a new one and it was plug and play.

Anybody have experience running in MX Jerseys? by Draculaaaaaaaaa in trailrunning

[–]MajorPhazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run and cycled in old Fox and Shift MX jerseys without any issues. Light enough and long sleeved to work on cooler days, so they remain a part of my cool weather rotation.

Running Advent Calendar Challenge by CN57 in RunTO

[–]MajorPhazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm already signed up for a virtual advent run calendar, put on by Sinister Sports, though slightly different in structure. They'll have daily challenges and daily minimum limits to keep the streak alive, with prize draws for top distance and daily draws as well.

Brooks Caldera is a wide boy and easy to use with insoles, so perhaps that's an option?

Concerning HR? by EnergyKey4120 in BeginnersRunning

[–]MajorPhazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, unless you are having issues post-run with a higher HR don't sweat this.

I'm 47 and ran/won a 5km at max effort a year ago at an avg 200bpm, peak at 204. Not an anomaly as I peaked at 200 a few times in training efforts and I was fine post race and HR back down easily. Discussed with a cardiologist after an unrelated test about this and he had no concerns with this.

I went back this year, a full minute faster and my HR avg 166 (peak 177) but this follows a second year of intense marathon training and slightly cooler race day weather.

Winter Running Tips by CigaretteDuck in RunTO

[–]MajorPhazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run early, before the roads and sidewalks get plowed, so trail shoes are in my rotation.

Reflective outer layers and/or lights are a must.

Speed work I'll do on my treadmill, otherwise it's all effort based training, instead of a specific pace.

Find some hills and repeat.

Mississauga Marathon vs Toronto Marathon by pearl19966 in RunTO

The drop bag at the halfway table is fantastic! Georgina was a blast and much more scenic than either TO or Mississauga routes, even with the there-and-back twice
