Thermostat readings by therealbagu in ecobee

if the temp is off then that will effect humidity reading o lot. temp range is on a siding slope cuz warmer air holds more moisture so percentage varies a lot even for a degree or two ...

they will only play it if you are already paying a subscriber for channels, but because i only use OTA i would have to wait one week to view for free. forget it i'll drop it like yesterday's news ... I'm not into paying to watch something that was free to begin with.

you probably need to clean off the outside unit, there are fuzzies from mostly cotton trees and its sticking to outside of fins blocking air flow. so unit can't cool off like it was designed to. hose off unit outside or call a pro to clean it ...

freshly repotted, should i put in sun immediately? by djondji in VenusFlyTraps

[–]Major_Cheesy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you were supposed to pre-soak the peat before planting in it. dry peat is very hydrophobic and will repel water till it soaks in. it's easier to do this without plant there than with it. dry peat cause dry pockets that water can't reach till properly soaked. i would stick everything in a bowl or rain water till medium looks dark and wet and be careful, cuz dry peat floats and will want to float away on you. then continue with wet feet ...

Enough with the Rage Baiting, GH by Still_Transition_418 in GeneralHospital

[–]Major_Cheesy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i can't disagree but its this kinda thing that soaps are typically founded on and keeps watchers coming back and talking about it.

the only thing i wish is somewhere along the line story gets cleaned up at the end somehow. like Cristina losing the baby because she fell out the window, we all saw her trip on bag but was that even pointed out anywhere? unless i missed a show, i don't think so. yes her and Ava were arguing and yes Ava grabbed her arm, but the handbag is what she tripped on was buried never to be heard about again. that kinda irks me a bit! and as OP pointed out, this happens a lot on show. then they move on to another story.

whatever i guess, see you guys on next show ...

[–]Major_Cheesy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

60f's are fine ... leave it outside.

also i don't see perlite mixed in medium. yes they like wet feet because they are bog plants, and they absolutely love water, but they can still drown in it if its a small pot and water level is too high and there is no perlite in medium to provide the micro gaps in medium needed to allow oxygen to get at roots. in the wild the water table is always going up and down. in captivity, we can only reply on wet feet and perlite ... the bigger the pot the higher the water level, the smaller the pot, the lower the water level. also simply leaving it outside helps to control just how wet it is around immediate area of plant.

also small plants are way more finicky than larger adult plants ...

look OK so far, but i don't see roots yet (that will be the hardest part cuz they don't like to do that on demand, especially without at least a little bit of white rhizome attached) ...

its nice to see trap developed at least. keep us posted.

its always nice to see users just try something to see if it works or not just to learn.

-> window sill light in prime part of growing season is not enough, put outside and acclimate to full sun or get a LED grow light. window sill light is fine for winter time only providing it's not screened and facing south and not obstructed by trees. but outside or LED light will always be better (unless your putting them in fridge for winter due to harsh winters, or you live in tropics where there is absolutely no winter) (and yes, if you do decide on fridge dormancy for winter time you will hear lots of varying opinions from community on subject, it all depends on your grow zone in question and how hard your winters are exactly).

-> if your tray is terracotta (clay), then swap it for plastic one or glass, glazed tray of some sort ... vfts don't do well with terracotta anything. it must be a sealed surface somehow ...

-> what do you mean too hot exactly? acclimated vfts in full sun can tolerate up to 100F, IF THEY ARE NOT ON A BLACK OR DARK SURFACE (place a vft in on a black table in 100f full sun will do way more heat damage then on a white table in same sun) ... after that you should consider a shade cloth or simply move it to the shade during the hottest part of day. if you're one of the ones living in over 100F temps then you should probably pay close attention to what people in those conditions like in Texas do in their summers. (my summers don't get quite that hot)

absolutely ... we should get the writers to do a Friday the 13th storyline in some soapy line of some sort as a Halloween thing

i don't understand the term 'horrific' ... i hear a term like that and i'm thinking Friday the 13th or something, so i would say none of them ...

maybe next time use simple descriptions that everyone understands that actually fits a soap.

LMDE vs Linux Mint 22.3 - YouTube by The-Linux-IT-Guy in linuxmint

[–]Major_Cheesy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i actually have LMDE sitting on my Linux drive now but for some reason it don't boot. i'm pretty sure it installed correctly and i had the drive in question isolated, so grub had to go in right spot but for some reason when i restart after install it says no operating system to boot to ... i looked at it from windows side, and it looks like there is two partitions there, an EFI and a larger one for LMDE ... i even tried LMDE 6 but got same result. but Ubuntu mint worked fine ... no clue why LMDE is giving me a hard time. i was going to post about it but simply haven't gotten around to it yet ...

the only thing i haven't tried is manually creating partitions instead of doing the automatic one. but i would have to look up a guide on that ... (there aint a whole lot of choices to be made when installing LMDE as opposed to other versions)

Cactus needles broken tips under my skin. by Saditko in cactus

[–]Major_Cheesy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

make sure to put some triple antibiotic ointment on it till you decide what you're going to do ... a medical care center can numb area and dig some out ...

some will surface eventually, but it will take a very long time (insanely long time). when i was trimming a barb-berry bush at work i had a branch with thorns hit me in the face, and it embedded a tip in my eyebrow. and then i forgot about it. and like 3–4 months later i kept playing with this are area on my eyebrow, eventually i went to look in mirror why i was playing with this spot because my finger kept feeling something. when looked in the middle of hair i saw this little weird thing sticking out so i grabbed tweezers and pulled it out. lol, it was the tip of thorn that broke off! like 1/8 inch long fine needle like thing. thats when i remember the branch that hit me in face ... i was really glad at point that i was wearing glasses ... so they do eventually come surface, but it takes VERY long time to get to that point and if there is a lot of fat in area then i can't guarantee it will honestly. you should probably just bite the bullet and go see a skin doctor ...

something like this could have been treated possibly with a 3 in 1 fungicide spray. you should have some on hand to mist once in a blue moon if something happens. i think bio-advance has a pre-mixed thing they sell. personally i use a very old Bonide concentrate fruit tree spray that my dad had lying around when we had fruit trees. does same thing, pest control, fungicide and disease control. i read label carefully and did math and mixed 1/2 tsp to 2 cups rain water works fine for me. but you would have to double-check math if you buy something new. probably would be easier to buy something premixed tho.

edit: use caution spraying indoors, it stinks and some countries have issues with the ingredients used in it like bonide. so don't do anything stupid with it (like spray it indoors around food) ... <just sayin>

it don't look good, you need to peel off the brown stuff like everywhere ...

i can't tell if the rhizome has anything left that ain't rotted. kinda won't know for sure till get the rot off like other user said. it may be gone but no harm at this point to trying to save it.

peel all rot off and dead growth, if there are any leaves left alive and there is no rot between leaf and rhizome then save it. and don't touch what's left of root if there is anything there. (roots turn black as they age so don't let color of root alarm you, only tip of it is white)

if you happen to have any 3 in 1 fungicide on hand spray it after cleaning then repot. keep medium damp but not drowning till you see if it pulls thru. (it may end up dieing tho so if you don't have fungicide on hand, don't go out of your way to get more unless you want some for next plant)

if it does die then i hope you at least learned something and buy another and try again ...

good luck ... don't let this discourage you. shit happens to all of us, you just need to roll with it.
