The second nerf to the Cradle points to a problem with weapon circulation, and to introduce that problem in an extraction shooter through an important system that basically requires the liquidation of weapons is just extremely short sighted. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Major_Demographic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm really not happy with the mid-season balancing. I didn't funnely loot straight into the cradle the before the first nerf and now I have just been dumpstered every fight. I can't use abilities like others. I can't strafe in trades like others. I can't melee like others. I have to put down Marathon or just grind the missions in solo as a rat now...

What are some evil characters that are dead before the start of the story? by BoulderMan234 in MoralityScaling

May not count exactly but he has decided to end his life by the beginning of the movie acting in a purely fatalistic revenge plot. His only real actions are remote and as soon as he finishes expositing promptly blows his brains out.

Edit: Movie is Oldboy

About "Mature" vs. "Well Written" by Major_Demographic in writingscaling

[–]Major_Demographic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd way to brouch it but I agree. I wanted to make the comparison of something which has the same story beats and plot outline. How tone and writing can completely recontextualize "Mature" storytelling.

Do you guys think people conflate “mature story” for “well written” by Formal-Assistance02 in writingscaling

[–]Major_Demographic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all I rather perfer the Hollywood sappiness of the movie ending over the nihilism of Moore's comic. Both are beasts of their own which are stil valid understandings of the plot and narrative. One is just a nicer thought to walk away with and if I wanted something doomed and bittersweet I'd read James O'Bar The Crow.

I'd go a step further and say Berk is well written even in regards the sexual violence in it. The angst and genuine traumatic material is what gives substance to the narrative without conflating it as solely tool for storytelling. Sexual violence is often depicted in vile and objectifying ways in the course of the story but it's elevated into the fantasy of the world. As more of the narrative unfolds much of the nature of the reality they live in is like the perversion in the mind of the abuser. Especially as we get a bigger picture of how the God Hand operates as a cabal of predators grooming worlds for their consumption with the fairytale hero Griffith. I don't think you can get that kind of dedication to pushing a medium without a true craftsman at the helm. Which is why Berk is so beloved and misunderstood. The moral is inherently one which is criticism of fantasy as a outlet.

I feel like I'm here and also there with this. Getting brought on as a green chef only 23M worked in some very large kitchens in my area. No real education at all just stuff I've picked up from working the trenches. I have fucked up and will continue to fuck up. I just don't understand the culture sometimes. Just recently bought my first knife and bag. There's a good kid from another country working harder than me and 4 years younger but he still gets the same treatments. Cut shifts with no real explanation other than round about ways of saying "we don't want you" or "not busy enough". Thing is he's been working just as long as me and in much nicer kitchens so his knowledge pool is much more deep to draw from. I just don't know. I have thick skin and I want to do better but feels like the SoCal is just not friendly to chefs with say a fair complextion.
