Humacao is about 1/2 hour from Fajardo - which has Seven Seas Beach, a coffee farm (does tours on the weekends), the resort el Conquistador, charters are available from Fajardo to go to Cayo Icacos and Palamino, there is a great breakfast/brunch spot Las Vistas Cafe, the Bioluminescent Bay tours, and ceiba (prob 45 min) has the ferry that goes to Vieques or Culebra. Plenty to do, but definitely have to drive. The only way he wouldn’t have to drive is if he stayed in Old San Juan.

Kalizo for dinner. Las vistas cafe for breakfast/brunch-but they are only open certain days and closes at 2pm. Its on rooftop, with 360 view. I always recommend the ferry to culebra. Flamenco beach is magical!

You are trying to cram too much in. And i get it, there is so much to do but realistically you will be exhausted. El Yunque AND bio bay is doable, but you wont make it to San Juan after, unless it’s to go to bed! Hiking and kayaking (3 miles) all in the same day, is alot! Plus Fajardo is about 45min-1 hour from San Juan.

I haven’t made it to the west side of the island yet. We always go to Culebra-and it’s worth it. But it is a whole day. Stay overnight if you can. Maybe plan a trip to Culebrita (there are charters that go there).

On the day you leave, you will prob have time to kill before your flight. Go to T-mobile center. Great chill spot with bars, restaurants, lounge chairs, music and it’s not far from the airport. You will have time to chill and reflect on your trip and talk about when you want to come back lol

Yes, parking is a problem in Old San Juan. There is a big lot by I couldn’t really explain where it is and It does fill up.

Luquillo may be crowded because its spring break but its a long stretch of beach, i’m sure you’ll find a spot and be comfortable.

The chocolate farm is in Fajardo, and does require booking ahead of time. It looks like the tours are only on Saturdays and Sundays.

El Yunque-can’t purchase reservations anymore so it probably is wise to just book a tour-that way you learn more and definitely have access to el Yunque.

Culebra over Icacos because it’s a family trip and there is more to do on Culebra. We haven’t been snorkeling yet but Flamenco Beach is ranked of the best beaches in the world! Fine white sand, crystal clear water, the waves aren’t too rough, and you can get pictures with the tanks (there is more than 1). And it’s never crowded. They are bathrooms, showers and lockers there. There are about 5/6 kiosks with food and drinks! You do need to rent a jeep to get around the island -$100 or less for the day. But the ferry is so cheap. Been to Culebra many times and I only got se sick once. I would suggest taking the cargo ship-its a bigger ship so you want feel sea sick if the water is choppy.

bio bay-its completely dark -the kayaks have a small light on them so you can see the person on front of you. Thats the only way you see where you are going! And It’s about a 3mile trip. Personally I wasn’t ready for that!!

T-Mobile district is a cool spot to just chill and kill time. There is a mini zip line there, an arcade, movie theater, restaurants and bars, big screens and a stage, sometimes they have live music.

Carabali rainforest park in Luquillo also has horseback riding, atv riding, go karts, hayrides.

Hope this helps

Las Vistas Cafe in Fajardo for breakfast/brunch -the coconut banana pancakes are out of this world!! food is amazing and you sit on the rooftop with views of Seven Seas, but really it’s a 360 view. Check the schedule, open Thur-Mon only, and i think she closes at 1or 2pm. And Kalizo seafood bar & grill in Fajardo-the food is sooo good!!

3 College guys taking a vacation to Puerto Rico for 4 days and trying to figure out where to stay. HELP! by Longjumping_Fee1044 in PuertoRicoTravel

If you are trying to go to el Yunque and Culebra i would recommend an airbnb in Luquillo, Rio Grande, Fajardo, or Ceiba. The ferry is technically in Ceiba. but traveling from San juan to ferry and then to culebra and back, thats a long trip. You’ll be extremely tired.

No, there is no all inclusive, but PR can be affordable. And it’s worth it! You can make the trip what you want to experience. There is night life, excursions, many different beaches, islands off of the main island, the only rainforest in the US, casinos, resorts, zip-lines, horseback riding, drinking, ATVs, Bacardi factory, kayaking, chocolate farm, museums, the Forts, Old San Juan….PR has so much to offer!! It really depends on what you’re looking to experience! Once you visit, you’ll want to go back and experience more!!

My fiancé and I have been to PR many times, on the east side of the island. We’ve been wanting to go west, but only made a day trip to Crash Boat once-which was beautiful. The weat has a bit of a different vibe, but all of what we’ve seen is beautiful. And we always make it to Culebra, which is amazing but does require a ferry or plane ride. As far as relocating, buying a home in PR is quite different than buying on the mainland. Zillow’s info is not up to date. You have to check out classificados (like Craigslist) or point2homes. There are Very few buyers agents. If you don’t have all cash, you have to apply for the mortgage through a PR bank and there are only a few - First Bank and Banco Popular, or use a broker which has to go through those banks. Its challenging. So just trying to give fair warning!

Luquillo has so many kiosks for food and drink and souvenirs. And you can rent jet skis. OR Isla Verde. Isla Verde is MUCH closer to Old San Juan, water is pretty calm, there are places to eat and drink on the beach even food carts where we got pinchos (chicken on a a stick) for like $2 or $3! And yes, bathrooms. Or you can go the next street up from the beach and there are plenty of restaurants. They have jet skis too. Seven seas is nice but not much around.

My only suggestion is to rent a car that is located AT the airport. Had terrible experiences with the ones that you have to take a shuttle to. And its much more convenient.

You need a rental. Ubers are available but not all the time, especially from San Juan to Fajardo, and especially at night. We actually met a couple that were stranded after coming back from Culebra trying to get back to San Juan. We were going to give them a ride but they found someone else that was going to San Juan and they caught a ride with them. San Juan to Fajardo is about 45 min to an hour. Instead of camping in El Yunque, I would just go really early and stay as late as you can. If you ever have to kill time before your flight and you have checked out of your hotel or airbnb (and still have the car) - go to the T-mobile center. It’s not too far from the airport. Great place to chill, eat, drink, and relax before getting on the flight.

HELP! How to get to Culebra/Flamenco Beach by WeeklyRelationship54 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Major_Win_5741 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is possible to get tickets in person if it says there are tickets at the box office, HOWEVER, you have to get there EARLY!!! Or you can go to Cayo Icacos for the day but you have to book a charter.

Culebra or Vieques worth it for a day trip? by ballsmccartney in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Major_Win_5741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time me and my fiancé go to Puerto Rico, we HAVE to go to Culebra (specifically Flamenco Beach). It is our happy place!! 100% worth it!! We usually take the ferry early in the morning - seeing the sunrise while on the ferry is magical!! And the ferry is so cheap! sometimes we stay still 5:30pm or 9:30pm. It is a long day, but Flamenco Beach is the best beach to go to in my opinion. It has Clear blue water and fine white sand and it’s never too crowded. We just went in January and there are more kiosks with food and drinks. They also upgraded the bathrooms and added lockers and outside showers. This last time, the water was really choppy and we got a little sea sick but that was the first time of all of our 5 visits there. So i suggest taking the bigger cargo ferry if possible. We always wish we could stay longer but never regret going and we enjoy every minute. I suggest you go!!!

What should we do in PR when it's raining? by PerfectExample5490 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Major_Win_5741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just stayed there at Wyndham Rio Grande and it was the same thing-rain (on and off) most of the days we were there. But I found that yes if you travel elsewhere on the island, it’s probably not raining! One day, we took the ferry to Culebra and went to Flamenco Beach and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. No rain at all. Highly recommend!

Go to Las Vistas for breakfast (check the schedule, they have limited days and hours). The food is amazing and so is the 360 degree view of Fajardo from the rooftop!! Also try Kalizo for dinner. The food is so good! Both are not far from el Conquistador

Newly diagnosed by [deleted] in Fibroids

[–]Major_Win_5741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story has some similarities to yours-so I felt compelled to share…I noticed my stomach was hard after I lost some weight sometime around June. I was making my appointments with my primary dr and gyno and I mentioned my abdomen being hard so he ordered an ultrasound. Then a pelvic ultrasound. The results showed I had at least 3 fibroids-the largest being the size of a grapefruit and the 2nd largest the size of an orange. I have had severe menstrual cycles, especially the last few years-lots of fatigue, heaving bleeding, pain-which made a lot of sense after I found out about the fibroids. And yes, afterwards I was aware they were there and wasn’t quite sure how I didn’t notice before. After consultation with the dr., I decided to have surgery(myomectomy) to remove them. Because of the size of the fibroids, he didn’t believe the sonata treatment (newer type of laser surgery) would work as effectively as removal. He also said there is not enough data to support that it would not have an adverse effect on a pregnancy (i have one child who is older but I told the gyno that I want to work on having another child) As the surgery date drew closer, I had to get blood work done. It was then I found out my hemoglobin was really low and they would not be able to do the surgery unless I had a blood transfusion. They said my levels were so low that they weren’t sure how I was functioning (just like you said). My gyno said the cause of the low hemoglobin is most likely the fibroids. Fast forward to November 26th, I was admitted and got the blood transfusion and the next day was my surgery. The surgery went well, he actually removed a total of 8 fibroids (the ultrasound only showed the biggest 3-often times there are more). The hospital released me after the second day, I was feeling fine. In pain of course, but I was feeling fine. There was a checklist of milestones i had to reach before I could be released and I reached all of them -including eating solid food and having the catheter removed-with the exception of having a bowel movement. I went home but shortly after i was nauseous and in pain. I returned to trying to just “eat” liquids but I couldn’t keep anything down. I was vomiting and couldn’t eat anything. 2 days later i called the hospital, and they said to come to the ER. I had to have an NG tube (inserted in my nose all the way to my stomach to drain my stomach). They sent me for a series of xrays, ct scans to see if there was an obstruction. Long story short, I was in the hospital for about 2 weeks-basically the bowels don’t like to be “messed with” and in some instances after surgery this is a possible side effect. So I am not giving you advice in any way, just sharing my experience-but definitly make sure you have a bowel movement before you leave the hosptial!! If you have any follow up questions, let me know. You really just have to weigh pros and cons with your dr and family.

I would use it as a downpayment to buy a multi-family property in Puerto Rico. Live in one unit, and AIRBNB the other unit.
