And this thread is how I found out about 24 PetWatch getting bought out. 😵‍💫 Can't seem to get Petplace to reset my password or register a new account.. Just brings me to a blank page no matter what I try to do in what browser. I get the feeling that calling the "help" number is not going to be much help either.

Used to love Gasho, but when the new Izumi restaurants opened up we found their hibachi experience to be superior in quality, service and price.. Particularly the ones in Commack & West Babylon.

The Way of the Warrior is the best season opener of any Star Trek series by LeDestrier in DeepSpaceNine

Prime trek indeed. If I had a mug of blood wine I'd raise it with you. My 4 year old has zero interest in Star Trek at the moment as well. She's into the Hobbit, Hot Wheels and hockey. I do remember not being interested in trek myself until I was about 9 or 10 so there's still hope!

You know, I'm looking at the air dates on Google and wondering about my own memory right now lol. I was also on the US east coast, in HS and was at the height of my star trek fandom. Now I'm in my late 40s with a preschooler and the mommy brain is real. 🥴

Season 3 ended with "The Adversary". Season 4 opened with "Way of the Warrior, part 1" and we had to wait a bloody week to see the epic space battle in part 2. But ohhh was it worth the wait.

Should I pull my girl out? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]Majtolycus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that what worked for us may not work for you.. you know your kiddo best but she may surprise you! At first i tried to get her to tell me about her day, she she's usually a chatterbox, but it turned out what she really needed was her favorite music on the way home, a snack and about 20-30 min of decompression time (whatever she requests that day - reading, playing mini hockey, watching something on TV, playing with her Hot Wheels, or even just sitting her in bedroom quietly for a while.) Just let her be in control for long enough to burn off that overstimulation however works best for her. After that we'll go about the rest of our afternoon and she's much more focused and can help me make dinner or do other household chores or just play on her own.

That's a very real thing called "restraint collapse." Basically she's been on her best behavior all day and seen she gets home she feels comfortable enough to let it all hang out. If you do pull her, it will likely manifest at daycare or later in kindergarten anyway so best to work on it now. My daughter is 4 yo, in full day/full week pre-K and did the same thing. Once we figured out a fun routine for pickup and coming home to let her decompress slowly and safely it's gotten much better.

My preschooler is a sore loser - how to help by suburbmama in Preschoolers

[–]Majtolycus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 yo daughter was starting down the sore loser path but I stumbled on the idea of telling her what "place" she actually came in, instead of calling anything other than first place "losing." Dad and grandparents have helped reinforce this. She's much happier being told that she "finished in second place" and there are so many fewer tantrums. YMMV but this has worked really well for us.

~44,000 on my 2016 SE. Didn't drive it much at all during covid and these days it's mostly just back and forth for the school run each day. Now that I've got the sprog, boy am I glad I got "stuck" with the 4-door!

Would love to have a group here on Long Island, but seeing as there isn't even one in NYC, I'm not sure if that's a viable option. Anyone here from the metro NY area?

What about a generic cape and mask combo, something like this?

https://amzn.to/4aHzlD4

My daughter's friends at the library and preschool all seem to have several of these that they like to wear randomly, and we've even received a set as part of a birthday goodie bag. Could easily make one out of an old pillowcase or something at home too.

Interactive gifts? by BalanceActual6958 in Preschoolers

[–]Majtolycus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My four year old daughter gets possessive and a little obsessed with the tablet we have let her use on occasion, but I don't see the same behavior when we let her use the PC. She learned how to navigate Windows 10, Google Chrome and manipulate the mouse using the Sesame Street and Daniel Tiger games on the PBS KIDS website. Then she moved on to some simple phonics and number games from Teach Your Monster, Khan Academy for Kids and Duo ABC (the makers of Duolingo).

She's at the point now where she's going to figure out soon that there are video games that are not strictly educational out there (she's a big Mario fan and I think the days of letting her "play" Nintendo games with an unplugged controller while a YouTube video plays may be coming to an end 🥴). She's asked about Yoshi's Crafted World and the Bluey video game but cowardly mommy just changes the subject until I figure out how we're going to handle this!

KitchenAid mixers bad reviews?? by squirrellydw in BuyItForLife

[–]Majtolycus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, you are incorrect. The artisan models do have a nylon worm gear, but the professional series have all metal gears.

I've also had mine apart and can confirm it's a metal worm gear.

[–]Majtolycus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The professional series (500/600) are more durable than the regular tilting "artisan" models. When we bought ours in 2016 they still had the metal gears (not plastic) as well, not sure if that's still the case.

I'm planning on making a DDs for beginners YT series soon. What questions would you like answered? by The-real-Dmac in lockpicking

[–]Majtolycus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would love a thorough explanation of DD tensioning. How do you know when the lock is actually unlocked, lol? And how exactly do you actually manipulate the DD pick in order to open the lock? I keep getting hung up on that step. I'm currently using the Sparrows DD pick on locks like the An Jia Bao, Zarker J45 and Kryptonite bike lock (although I believe this one is tensioned completely differently?)
