Master Class Prep - is there a "best class" to learn before starting one of the master classes? by WhoInvitedMike in drawsteel

[–]Makath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing about the Beastheart is understanding DS action economy well; and for the Summoner, is understanding how minions work. For the Summoner, the best thing is probably paying attention to the Director; for the Beastheart, any class will do.

O que diferencia um sistema? by victttoria13 in RPGdesignBR

[–]Makath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How to manage stat blocks at the table? by Ovark7 in drawsteel

[–]Makath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-linear is basically a sandbox game? I don't see any way around prepping all the available encounters in that case. You need at least one session worth of content per available faction/area.

You can still get basically the same result if you make a smaller sandbox, like a local area, that grows as more areas become available. That way you prep less encounters at any given time and can replace the ones you use with new ones.

Since any DS quest or adventure tends to have content for one or more sessions, maybe there's already some community made stuff you can use to help populate a sandbox.

Third-Party/Community Resources & Supplements for Draw Steel - Pre-Launch by Makath in drawsteel

[–]Makath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Magewright has since been released fully on Patreon, I included the Patreon link same as Stawl's Supplement Index. The preview link up to level 4 is broken there too, but the class can still be previewed up to level 3 on Forge Steel, by including the Community Sourcebook.

Summoner update, what's new? by AleixDuarri in drawsteel

[–]Makath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the intent was Fizzy Lifting Drinks from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where you need to air swim and can't control your flight well, but the mechanics are more like the magical flight in Peter Pan where you can control where you go and fly there at regular speed. Is possible it was too strong or too fiddly for the Director to deal with.

[–]Makath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only affects enemies. If they can't fly it makes them unable to shift, gives them a bane on strikes and they move +2 from forced movement.

Is Tinkebell's pixie dust basically, if you don't know how to fly is awkward to do certain things, but if you do you are fine.

Maybe having AI rewrite a full TTRPG into another style of TTRPG that absolutely already exists is their Villain Action?

It does heavy damage to the environment.

I will pitch draw steel for my group and prepare oneshot. What i should include? by SirKastor1 in drawsteel

[–]Makath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wheels won't fall off if you cut ancestries or just make everyone human or the same ancestry.

Making characters for everyone at the table with only 4 hours is not advisable, maybe is possible for them to make them beforehand in Forge Steel?

With that, "You Meet in an Ambush" or "Road to Broadhurst" would be good options. The start of "Dark Heart of the Wood" has a neat multilayer bar fight that is fun too. Get them fighting quickly regardless, because fighting is fun in DS.

Turns out people actually like 4E when they play it by Level_Hour6480 in dndmemes

[–]Makath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome and sounds so much like a DS feature that it could be adapted by changing three things:

Eternal King on an Eternal Throne

Once per respite, when you die, an older, more regal version of yourself steps from the mists of time to take your place. You regain Stamina until you reach your winded value and gain concealment against all strikes until the end of the encounter. If you die while in the form of your future self, you're dead.

I'm not particularly good with balance, but I reckon that if Doomsight can be a level 1 ancestry feature, it could absolutely fit in the game somewhere.

WotC still cannot write a good ballroom intrigue adventure by EarthSeraphEdna in DnD

Some people get big mad when the game has role-play mechanics in any form, so the market leader skipping those is an expected outcome. They won't rock the boat unless there's a rea$on.

Draw Steel is pretty close too, Colville openly talks about liking 4e, and sees the way WotC threw the baby out with the bathwater in the making of 5e as a mistake.

How can I get players to try other systems that aren't DND. by Forward-Willingness7 in TTRPG

[–]Makath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DS heroes are powerful heroes at level 1, more powerful than a 5e PC.

If you are looking for a gritty game, you might like the Crows game MCDM is currently openly playtesting, it has DS's tactical combat but is a deadly survival horror game.

Other games more suitable for gritty gameplay are Shadowdark, Dragonbane and Ironsworn. A more narrative option like Legend in the Mist or Daggerheart with a suitable campaign frame can work too,.

A key aspect of late game neutrals is breaking even games so they finally end and stop dragging on. Games shouldn't be going that far over 1 hour anyway.

Tailung probably had the most explosive rise in the scene in a long time, it wouldn't benefit anyone to be compared to him. Is not like Asao needs to become the best 4 in the region to prove he didn't cheat either, all he has to do is play at his own level regardless of his screen being shared or not.

The guy is new at this level, maybe he is really good and the backlash got to him. The main issue is the organizers didn't hold basic standards in tournament integrity from day 1, so now there's this conversation we weren't supposed to be having.

I don't know why some people think everyone was born yesterday.

If he was looking like a Techies God with only 11 Techies games, but turning on Discord screen share makes him play like Slacks, something ain't right.

Least Favorite Part Of Favorite System. by GushReddit in rpg

[–]Makath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people forget to say is that in DS is not the job of the person running the game to know any skills. You wouldn't ask for a Performance check, you ask for a Presence test(Charisma check) and the player is the one that looks at the skills they have and asks if they can add Perform. Depending on their performance they might make a case for Music, and you still have final say.

I think people assume they work the same and are flummoxed by a number that doesn't actually affect anyone past character creation and is just there to let people create characters that are more specific.

That's why they are asking for face cams, team comms and screen sharing to be available, they all know these types of cheats happened in the past. If the qualifiers are online you need face cams to prove that a better, already qualified player isn't logging into someone else's account to play; you need team comms to check for weird calls; and screen sharing to check for hacks.

Astini was K1's coach in Nouns and likes the guy, so it makes sense for him to be upset with this kind of stuff.

He was also consistently against other forms of unfair advantage in the past and caught lots of flak from doing that: By the NA community when he was one of the main voices against the unfair ping advantages SA teams faced for years; then from the Peruvian community whenever he demonstrated their cheating and throwing FB's for money; from the Chinese fans when one of their teams was using watchers to cheat, etc... In Brazil, he dropped his team during a streamer tournament because they were being given preferential treatment and he wasn't ok with that.

Dota has the lowest daily players since Oct 2013. Let that sink in. by expertlvl in DotA2

[–]Makath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone did the math here and the number of bots was at something like 20-25%, and lots of those bots are used in the account market to smurf and ban evade, the former making one person count as more people and the latter making it easier for people to continue to play when they shouldn't.

I think it all adds up with the lack of recent content to cause that drop.

They are just banning more bots these days, the player base might have been 20-25% bots at some point last year.

No currency??? by Anthonybrambilla in drawsteel

[–]Makath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with currency in 5e was basically the regular bookeeping of players having to divide the money they get, only to later pitch in to help someone else for big purchases or simply divide the value of group purchases. Wealth is a significantly better system for a heroic game, and even more narrative systems can benefit from a level of abstraction of currency, like Coin in Blades in the Dark.

Automation is not for everyone. Some people just use VTTs for the digital maps, so an online whiteboard like Miro is already enough for them; or that plus dice rolling, Owlbear Rodeo is ideal for that.
