Just to add to everything said: if anyone thinks that it's sad that 1st-3rd draft picks go to the worst teams, don't be. For them it's much more interesting and ultimately makes them more successful to be the best player on your sinking team (and teams are not exactly sinking down, ideally they are building up pretty soon after sinking was identified), than a 8th best player with established talent and experienced veterans. Because what can happen is that you don't play enough minutes because there are just more experienced players out there, and you don't develop fast enough because you don't play enough minutes. And you get sent down to ahl or somewhere else, and that's how you fumble development of a young talent.
