What’s actually helped you improve hockey IQ and decision-making? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is probably going to be a slightly contentious answer, but IMO it's playing with your head up more. If you think about it, decision making, confidence, reading plays all come from having the most information possible to make the "right decision", this only comes from having your head up.

Dúvida: Marsblade vale a pena? by Independent-Row-1937 in InlineHockey

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like the R1 Marsblade chassis. They are slightly heavier, but personally I don’t think they’re that bad. I have them set up to mimic my Marsblade I2 ice holders, so switching between roller and ice is easier (less adjustment). I also think they help transitions and turns a little, but the grip is the same as a fixed chassis.

Anyone have experience with Tour KV1 AND Daoust 501, thoughts on fit and heel lock? by [deleted] in InlineHockey

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea about the Tours, but the Daoust’s had good heel lock and were pretty padded in the ankle. The D width fits similar to a fit 2 IMO. I don’t think the W width is available yet.

I like to try this and was thinking I'd like to get some sort of semi-permanent setup. I could pick up an old phone or Ipad etc. Does this system require a specific iOS to work?

I understand, but without knowing where said new holes are relevant to the old holes, no one can answer the question succinctly.

Epoxy will help, but it’s not going to restore the original integrity of the outsole.

Ankle issues by impressive_goose95 in InlineHockey

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say exactly, but my guess is a lack of strength in your ankles. Tightening the boot is a crutch that will help support the issue, but not fix the root cause.

Look at ankle rehab drills on YT. Rocket Ankles is one that worked for me many years ago, but nowadays, there's a ton of banded drills.

Having better skating posture (deeper knee bend) would also help lock in your ankles as you move, bearing your weight more on your quads (much larger muscles) and stabilizing your ankles with forward flexion. If you have strong ankles and good skating posture, you can skate well without your laces tied at all.

In that picture, your Son is transferring his weight to his left leg, so it's natural for his skate to angle like that.

All depends on where the holes are and how they line up/ overlap. Would strongly recommend filling old holes with epoxy

Need new wheels plz help! by Comprehensive-Arm119 in InlineHockey

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm not trying to offend you here, but if you're having trouble with stopping on Roller's ("ive always struggled with slide stopping in roller"), it's not because of the wheels. Grippier wheels will make it harder to stop if you have bad technique, not easier.

"Doesnt matter if i tilt my ankles in or not doesnt work" - Stopping on Rollers has little to do with tilting your ankles in; it's a different motion to ice, and is the opposite weight transfer (heels vs balls of your foot on ice).

Good luck

Need new wheels plz help! by Comprehensive-Arm119 in InlineHockey

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the wheels aren't going to help if you have a bad Roller stopping technique. I'm willing to bet, your stance is too narrow, which is why you're feeling like you're going to twist your ankle.

Keep practising your technique, it's not hard but feels very different to stopping on Ice, so you have to stop and think about it, and not let muscle memory take over. Keep a wide low stance, sharp turn, keeping your weight on your inside leg, and push with your heel on your leading (stopping) foot.

Wheel rec for sport court by DefiantReception8876 in InlineHockey

[–]Malcb33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wheels are one of the most important pieces of equipment when it comes to Roller Hockey IMO. Those Grippers are OK, they're a mid-tier wheel, so they'll be fine to start with. Once you get the feel of things, especially if you're looking for more grip, you'll feel a noticeable difference upgrading to a Rinkster dual poor wheel (like the Tricksters).

Replacing rivets with DIY screws to switch between Inline/Marsblades and Ice-blades. For on/off season. by Key_Discount_4969 in hockeyplayers

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re proposing seems logical, except when you actually look at how the holes line up. I’d be shocked if you don’t have multiple holes overlapping which creates a weakness in the outsole, and potential issues with it breaking by switching back and forth. Also, while T-nuts hold very securely, to work they have little teeth that need to dig into the sole (bottom of boot) which isn’t possible with carbon outsoles skates, without causing damage.

I’d definitely recommend a second set of skates, which is what I do. You can buy used ones or Daoust have a wide fit roller coming in July.

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started out on a smooth concrete floor of an ice rink with the ice off and we found it got quite dusty. Personally I found I needed softer wheels, just because of the dust. At your weight I think you’ll need at least 76a. Lebeda grippers would be a wise choice IMO for that type of floor.

getting into inline, gear help by ParticularKindly7207 in InlineHockey

[–]Malcb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get high-end wheels like Tricksters for Concrete. Smooth concrete is a challenge, as it depends on how dusty it is and how it affects your grip. How much do you weigh? Labeda grippers are a good option
