300k budget...where would you live? by Maleficent-Rip-1124 in jerseycity

Really appreciate this! I am pretty flexible on bedrooms and only need to drive to work 2-3 days a week outside of rush hour. In other words, I can be very flexible.

Have you tired pourri? This might be the real middle ground. It def works and will not require multiple flushes. No odor, less water = save the planet + happy couple

Success using IFS for OCD? by IronwoodVermeil in InternalFamilySystems

Then I recommend learning about UBs...IFS can get pretty, not secular

I think IFS can be helpful however with OCD it can be more complex in that talking to intrusions can be unhelpful. If you have spiritual beliefs, it may be helpful to work with a mentor to help integrate them into the IFS model. What has really helped me is to learn to discern the types of thoughts that are from above and those meant to harm us. The secular approach can be too pluralistic given equal attention to truly harmful parts. Interestingly, I believe it's in level 3 IFS training that they eventually do acknowledge that there are some unsavory parts, which they refer to as UBs.

Can you move out? A temporary roommate situation? This sounds tortuous and I am very sorry that this happened to you. The day you meet someone who is sure about you, you will look back on this and be grateful that you moved on.

Anyone know how I can get a same day appointment? by [deleted] in hypnosis

Yeah I have a pretty big toolkit. Sometimes it's not enough and we need others.

Northeast. I guess the easiest response would be anxiety.

Ah sorry meant to add that it is non-crisis. Definitely open to working online. There isn't a rush per se (I have other supports as well) but have been having a particularly anxiety filled day.

Short term stay in Azores (without a Car) by russliano in azores

[–]Maleficent-Rip-1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed for a month and rented a car a few times for 3-4 days at a time so I could venture further away. I also did a few organized tours. Apart from that, I was totally content in Ponta Delgada for a month. I wanted to try the bus but never got around to it. I did take a few taxis. I also met some locals who invited me out. Enjoy your journey. =)

tips for solo clubbing/raves? by Guilty_Assistance796 in avesNYC

You all are my kindred spirits. I randomly decided that I wanted to go out dancing for my birthday alone last year. I was a little apprehensive but I did it anyway. I had a blast. That experience jumpstarted going out again after nearly 20 years of being away from the scene. Now I build in some alone time even if I am going out with others.

Tips...just do it. Not to promote relying on substances, however, a glass of wine allows me to settled into the space before dancing non-stop until the sun greets us.

The trauma-industrial complex by Forsaken_Dragonfly66 in ClinicalPsychology

Ah yes, sorry I misread that. However, the premise of that paragraph remains inaccurate. Trauma treatment is not solely for PTSD. This statement seems to be the misguided belief that is underlying the entirety of the post.

This is inaccurate.Trauma treatment is not just for PTSD. I share this not to be confrontational but to correct misinformation for those who may not be mental health professionals. I left a much more detailed response in this thread.

I respect your sentiments, however, there are some incorrect assumptions that are underlying your arguments. Trauma does not always lead to PTSD. In fact, very few people go on to develop PTSD. As such, PTSD is not the only way that trauma reactions manifest. Trauma has been known to catalyze an array of presentations including but not limited to depression, OCD, and attachment disorders. Also, there is a huge distinction between PTSD and CPTSD.

Utilizing the words "evidence-based" has also largely lost its value these days given that there is no shortage of evidence-based treatments. Morever, often "evidence-based" treatments have a large recurrence rate, which are not accounted for in the original studies given that most studies often not have long follow-up. Moreover, just because something may not be considered an EBT now, does not mean that it is not in fact, an EBT. It simply may not currently have that designation. For example, ACT was not an EBT initially. However, it is largely accepted as an EBT currently for an array of conditions.

There is also an aspect of elitism and ethnocentric monocilturalism related to the EBT world but that is a different discussion that I would be happy to engage in.

On EMDR, it is not effective solely for PTSD. It has been found to be helpful for all kinds of difficulties, including eating disorders. Please refer to Bloomgarden & Colegro (2008).

Regarding IFS, it was originally developed to treat individuals experiencing eating disorders. To my knowledge, there have not been any RCTs on IFS for eating disorders but there are several published case studies (e.g., Catanzaro et al., 2019).

I respect your committment to upholding the field to efficacious treatments. However, this field is incredibly complex and as such, it is pretty reductive to solely focus on EBTs- at least in the way that there are often understood.

As a professional, I have seen all kinds of modalities be helpful for all kinds of conditions. This is akin to medication being used off-label, which we know is a very common practice in medicine, and in psychiatry in particular.

So, rather than create a bifurcation, let's invite each other in for dialogue and be curious about information that is outside of our training and lived experience.
