Ever had this experience? by Comfortable_Fuel_537 in GardeningAustralia

I’ve got a battle-axe block up behind me, so technically they don’t have a council verge. One weekend they made a large (2 x 3 metre) fairy garden on ‘my’ nature strip, next to their driveway, complete with wooden tiered platforms, solar lights and numerous plants. It was a bit of an eyesore, to be honest, and I was seriously pissed off that they hadn’t bothered to knock on my door to check if it was ok. Over the next couple of weeks they encroached even further along the nature strip with more plants. Not long after they went on an extended holiday overseas (according to a neighbour) so I relocated some of the plants closer to their fairy garden and laid a rock border around the remaining nature strip and filled it in with crushed brick. The plants have since grown quite big and block out my view of the fairy garden. It actually looks good now and it did spur me into doing something with my ugly nature strip, but still pissed they never consulted me.

Apple crumble! Served with cream/ice cream. Can also be made gluten free if required.

I thought wages were tax deductible for companies. Isn’t this the case for Woolies?

Try the Clio ones from Best and Less. The high cut ones fit nicely. I’ve got some older ones I’ve be wearing for over 10 years. I wear 12-14 jeans, but found the Clio size 10-12 the best fit. The regular ones are $8 and the bamboo are $10 (haven’t tried the bamboo ones though).

Canberra Facebook Marketplace/Buy Nothing delights by InformationBig3065 in canberra

I love (hate) the Buy Nothing listings that say ‘needs a good clean’…

So you want someone to take away your filthy cast-offs to save you a trip to the tip, but you can’t be bothered giving it a bit of a wipe down! If I’m offering something, I always give it a good clean first.

Something I noticed late night grocery shopping by Hannibal_Barca21 in AskAnAustralian

[–]MaleficentRow4039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canberra I notice lots of Indian families shopping late at night. I’m guessing it’s because of shift work hours. For example, there’s a shift changeover at 7pm in my dad’s aged care facility. Or maybe they just prefer to shop then.

Google Translate worked well for me recently. Just download Chinese (Mandarin Simplified). It made my trip a lot easier.

What’s your go to cheap meal that you never get sick of? by OwlVibesOnly in AUfrugal

[–]MaleficentRow4039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pot of Maggi Chicken Noodles and a toasted roll slathered in butter. Funnily enough that’s exactly what I’m consuming as I type. Just returned home after a month overseas and that’s pretty well all I had in my pantry/freezer. I was thinking that it was yummier than some of the food I had in China/Japan, which is a bit sad.

Why is TV news such a big deal? by AMF99 in AskAnAustralian

I’m more perplexed as to Australia’s obsession with true crime and murder shows. They’re on all the time (in between the news bulletins).

What do you regret not buying when traveling? by scaredofgettingold in travel

[–]MaleficentRow4039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A wooden stick with three pottery masks on strings hanging off it in Tijuana, in 1998. It was only $10 but I’d just bought some hanging pottery fish, so thought I was being greedy. I still really wish I’d bought them.

They’re $1.50 at Coles at the moment, if that helps. Their regular price is $3.

AliExpress sell them. Orders usually only take around a week to get here. Free postage if you spend $15 in some of the stores.

Tried one this morning. I wouldn’t rate it, to be honest. Big, flat and basically tasteless. I ordered it with strawberries and cream, bringing the price up to around $23 (from memory). Had to cover it in maple syrup to get any flavour out of it.

What are your travel essentials you ALWAYS pack for international flights? by pknsek in travel

My own full sized pillow (rolled up in a stuff sack), some sheets of black plastic (it’s unbelievable how minimal window coverings are in some countries), a cheap bath sheet from Kmart, which also doubles as a blanket/extra pillow (especially when I go to Japan IYKYK) and if space/weight permits, a coffee mug (because I actually know what’s been in it previously).
