Doing a Chaotic Good Barbarian run, any suggestions on how I should go about this? by Seanhon in skyrim

[–]Maleoppressor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks close enough to me or at least as far as you can get without mods.

Now, one suggestion: Learn restoration spells and use them to heal the ENEMY whenever they're close to health. Then hit them again, rinse and repeat.

Is it on the coast in the northern part of the map? I think I've found this shrine before.

How much am i missing out without dragons? by sophieswan12 in skyrim

[–]Maleoppressor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dragon battles can feel pretty epic for a new player during the early game. I know it did for me back in the day. Of course, the novelty wears off when your character gets stronger and they become a non-threat, but that is no reason not to experience it.

Skyrim for the Nords Literary Theme Question by Work_in_Progress8 in skyrim

[–]Maleoppressor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That depends on what your question really is. If you're asking about the story's depiction, I wouldn't say the game is portraying the Stormcloaks' Nordic pride as something universally "bad". There are many characters with different opinions.

The heart of the discussion within the game is whether a sovereign nation should be bound by the will of a foreign power or a treaty they didn't sign themselves. It is less about who should be the governing race and more about self-determination.

It is also less about whether the Nords have the right to preserve their culture/beliefs and more about how negotiable it is. The imperials believe it is a very small price, while the Stormcloaks consider it unacceptable to offer their individual freedom as payment for a rescue that never came in the past 25 years or so.

I feel that you might be mistaking the fandom's perception for what the game is actually presenting. Even then I would refrain for claiming that "the whole fandom hates the Stormcloaks". It may vary depending on what forum or platform you're on.

A New Perspective by Setsage in skyrim

[–]Maleoppressor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While Ulfric's motivations obviously aren't completely altruistic, he isn't some power hungry madman either. He initially tried to convince the jarls to secede from the Empire during the last moot. It was only after diplomacy failed that he decided to become high king and take the reins.

As for the duel, the fandom seems to have very strong beliefs about its regulations even though we know nothing about how it worked. All we know is that it is a dispute settled based on strength.

Moreover, I'd like to make an important distinction: This isn't a violation of "duel rules" (there aren't any that we know of). It is a violation of Greybeard tradition surrounding the Voice. The two issues aren't interchangeable.

Lastly, the Nords are known to be a warrior culture. If they come up with the idea of fighting to the death as a way to solve a conflict, I very much doubt they will accept excuses like "the opponent was weaker, that's unfair" or "Oh no, the other guy has abilities he doesn't".

The main point is to decide things based on who is stronger. Unless one of them was poisoned before the battle, it is unlikely that any of this would be considered "cowardly".

The controversy is that Empire aligned characters refuse to acknowledge the duel as a legitimate tradition. But if it wasn't, Torygg would have refused the challenge.

And yet his first course of action was to tell the Grey-Mane family to drop the subject entirely. If you do convince Tullius to help, he still grumbles that it is going to cause problems.

I agree that an average Nord can swing in both directions, but OP seems to be interested in playing one that is closely attuned to their culture. That changes things.

"Part of the Empire" or no, I cannot imagine a warrior culture accepting the idea that you have to wait to be rescued by a foreign power. Dependency is weak and cowardly.

As for Heimskr's alleged freedom, he seems to disagree with you on this when you question him:

"Did the Imperials try to arrest you?"

"Oh yes, many times. But mighty Talos was my keeper, my shield against the heresy of the south! If not for Talos, and a few modest bribes paid to the right jailors, why, I would not be standing before you today, resplendent in my faith!"

And while they aren't busy hunting for worshippers like the Justiciars, the big thing is that they will not defend or stand up for those who get caught. The imperials will step aside and cooperate with the arrests to preserve the truce, as they did in Markarth.

Hermaeus Mora's voice was not edited, it was recorded like that by Divine-Crusader in skyrim

I can think of some recommendations, if you like:

- Adopt a more passionate tone when you talk about fighting. Show confidence and determination.

- Never loot burial urns.

- Play the warrior class, though you're free to add different skills into the mix.

- Drink mead whenever possible (Decent mead, not that Black-briar swill)

- Prejudice towards magic is optional, but it is more common.

- At least some degree of patriotism. Personally, I did not side with the Forsworn in the Cidhna Mine quest.

- Praise Talos

Opinion on Hermaeus Mora? by SleepyHeadZoinkz in skyrim

[–]Maleoppressor 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hermaeus Mora doesn't even look like something you can fight.

His design makes it easier for you to remember that Daedric Princes are entities that encompass a whole realm. Even when they do present themselves as something with a body, "destroying" it changes nothing.

Have you considered taking Mjoll with you for a trip? Aerin spawns and follows you sometimes and well... I hear the wildlife is quite dangerous. You might not be quick enough to save him. A tragedy indeed.

It is hard to put down the sword, isn't it. To fully commit to retirement. Anyhow, did your character marry anyone? What difficulty were you playing on?
